Young lad on his first ever boys trip abroad and has no travel insurance 🤦‍♀️ family giving no more details other than he was in a serious accident 🤷🏻‍♀️ but want the bills covered with a GFM.

I totally get he’s a grown man but my sons ages with him and I’ve always took the responsibility of booking his travel insurance before he’s went on any holiday without me. Maybe I’m too over protective but I’d rather be safe than sorry

This thread has really opened my eyes up to GFM. From someone stating a heart was stolen to enable £260k be raised.....supposedly to fund a legal case that was meant to be in court in November.......no updates on that surprise surprise. To the Turkey Teeth couple. It just feels like people lie, elaborate, or commit crime and expect a huge payout 🤢

And those are just the high profile cases, it's happening on a much smaller scale too, so no-one notices, it's awful 😖
What I didn't know about the heart one,wtf ! It's just not regulated enough, the money just gets paid into the bank account and that's it. Very rare you see updates from them or what the money was really spent on. The go to one is always for me Ashley Cain,I would never donate to a GFM and really don't know why people still do it. The whole Charity industry isn't what people are led to believe it is,when you actually look into them. I stick to a small local one that just raises money to look after the local park,a small charity shop. It's a true Charity shop where no item is over 50p,not inflated prices paying CEOs millions a year.

Has anyone read the story about the autistic 7 year old that drowned while in the care of her childminder? A gofundme was set up for help with funeral costs and now they’re selling T-shirts with the poor girls face on 😩 🤢
I cannot deal with how tacky people are, omg.

They didn’t even low ball the 1.5 million target 😳
Tbf apparently gofundme automatically keeps upping the target when it gets reached?

I do think it's mostly other celebs donating though. I saw Steven Spielberg donated $25k. It is a bit of joke how much money they've raised. No disrespect to his wife but she doesn't need to keep homeschooling forevermore - her kids could go to regular school and she could get a job eventually like any regular mum in that situation would have to do. Plus they owned more than one property so thats a guaranteed income since they rent it out.

Wonder what his debt figure is? Only working half the year right through into his 40’s 😳 the locks would be changed on return to my house 😂

I'm doing a lot of work on my house and haven't had a holiday since 2019. Why should I give my money to some dude who can afford a holiday when I can't?

One of my work colleagues has married a woman from the Philippines. He thought he was buying a live in cook/cleaner/dutiful wife and she's everything but (which I admire her for)! He admitted on a night out once that he spent well over £75k of life savings by the time he'd been out there a few times to meet, marry and bring her here. She sends all of her wages back to her family so they exist on his wages. Her English is still very poor even though she's been here for 10 years, so she's hard to understand and he has to attend the Doctors/Dentist/Hairdresser/school meetings with her. Drives us mad with his constant leave requests.

Your right it was utterly horrendous what happened to him. But I don't get this mindset about setting up GFM pages within days of your loved one dying
When we lost a very close relative in traumatic circumstances , I could barely function for I don’t know how long.

I've just seen one that a friend has shared on FB and it's to fly the deceased man's nephew and his Mum back from Australia to attend a funeral  is there anything that people won't try and get money out of the public for!

I’ve given strict instructions to my other half for “no GFM and no publicity” should I die in tragic circumstances. Just no, thank you. We will use any insurance I have, any savings etc. I don’t want the world knowing my business.

The loss of that sweet boy is very tragic though. Cannot imagine.

It's just absolutely beggars belief these people start a go fund me for things like this. Can't believe people donate to them.

A shopkeeper here was bashed & died, a go fund me was immediately set up to ‘help the family’. After the man’s funeral the family stated that they did not agree to the go fund me & wanted nothing to do with it & asked for all donations to be returned to the donors, which it was. Turns out it was set up by a concerned member of the community that they didn’t know & had never heard of.

If you google GFM Turkey there is a list of people trying to raise money who've all gone out there without insurance  talk about idiots abroad.

My understanding with an ill child requiring hospital treatment is the NHS covers your daily transportation/milage and meals, you fill out forms and claim the cash.

How does someone with 5 kids and no job get a mortgage? Doesn’t add up 🤷🏻‍♀️
I have just looked, it doesn't even specify what the money will be spent on,is this how easy it is to make 10k ? I don't use TikTok so I don't know the details of her life. I just find it truly disgusting people post sick kids,it just doesn't sit right with me at all. There's thousands of people in the same boat and deal with it privately. Yes,it must be heartbreaking and of course you'll do anything for them, but immediately setting up go fund me and posting it all on Tiktok just isn't right.

There is something so crass about all these GoFundMe efforts getting set up within hours of a passing.

The one exception is funeral costs but otherwise it's creeping me out.

Is he having a solid gold coffin for £55K??! It's horrific what happened to him but whatever happened to life insurance/funeral plans. Same with travel insurance and the idiots who think they won't need it. The moment we had kids we took out mortgage and life cover, and we've never travelled without decent insurance either. One thing you learn in life is to expect the unexpected.
Because, like many things and situations in life, people nowadays think it's their right and are entitled to things that they're not. There's often no accountability for anything. I just find go fund me for these thing's weird and maybe it's a British stiff upper lip thing, but it's just all a bit embarrassing and showy. Akin to people fighting over the deads will, give them some bloody dignity.
