This show has gone super woke or something. Who cares about their pronouns and all the gender crap? And the way everyone always has to have a vulnerability or problem they’re bravely battling with and/or a dark time they’ve been struggling through… oh whatever. You’re not special, that’s life, just get on with the makeup.

Can’t believe that idiot wrote “queer power 4ever” on her face. Really hitting a home run for the cause there matey. How incredibly rude and childish.
I think it might just be how young they are and that this is what young creative people are like right now. I feel so old lmao when I was young and had a creative bunch of friends we defined ourselves with punk/goth etc and made a big deal out of it all. I don’t think we’d have scrawled “holiday in Cambodia” all over a model’s face while we had a tantrum, though. That seems unique to lil Charlie.

Just starting episode 1 of season 5 and I feel this could be any series - the contestants are now all the same, as are the make up looks - snooooze. Also this new presenter is a bit wooden in her delivery. She makes me think of a presenter you’d have for season 1 before the show gets big and you change them for a bigger name.

This show makes me laugh sometimes. I enjoy it but you can sometimes get two looks that are pretty similar really in terms of skill and one is universally adored and the other they hate. I also agree with other posters in that it's not quite got the formula right but I can't put my finger on why. I still can't stand Val, it kind of drags a bit by the end, May Jama is mundane and seems to be wearing the most shocking outfits.

The usual reality show JOURNEYS get me but I suppose they are everywhere these days. I'd love to see someone be able to say 'well I love make up and want to be an MUA and think this would be a great way to get into the industry', instead of all the stuff about their back stories and rollercoaster journey.

What I don't understand is the face painting is always so patchy, yet some are called out for it and others not? I rarely think any of the face paint actually looks good up close tbh

I swear they've only had two challenges the whole series (The Crown & ASOS) where they've had to do actual makeup

Jack is a bit of a skin God and does the most awesome eyebrows and eyes. Jack doesn’t want to be just an influencer and is focussed on being a make up artist. I wish they’d be given a chance to show this too as I don’t believe their talents have got to shine. Jack can make me look like their sister (we get this constantly) and I’m 50 next year  At work people always ask where my sibling is.

I can’t really comment re the filming. All I know is Jack was in isolation alone for over a week before moving in to the MUA house.

What the hell was that meta verse nonsense all about? Those balloon things were hideous. I’m bewildered most of the time at what the judges consider great make up. I get Roo mixed up with someone from last year who wore elf ears.

And why do we need everyone‘s pronouns? We’re not interacting with any of them. It’s just woke bullshit.
Quite possibly the strangest challenge. Do people spend real money on that metaverse fashion show thing? Like buy actual tickets to watch essentially The Sims walk round in stupid clothing?

The pronouns thing is ridiculous too. This was the first show where I encountered it and this season is just baffling. I got my head around the idea of people being they/them even though it’s stupid as when the judges are talking, especially in a team challenge, I assume they are referring to multiple people. This season I’ve seen at least one person as he/they. What on earth is that all about?

I feel sorry for Roo on one level - they have ADHD and a big part of that is time blindness so it is actually more difficult for them as opposed to an NT person to manage time. Getting 15 mins knocked off in the red chairs wouldn't have helped.

That said, I don't particularly rate them as a make up artist.

This is the first series where I think there has been a clear winner almost from the start. Saffron is so versatile that even in her weaker weeks she is doing brilliantly. The others are good in their specialisms but they don't do well when stretched.

Perhaps they could give a second chance at a similar brief to the main task but with a much shorter time frame for the face off? Or they could get a short timeframe to work on the critique they were given? Perhaps they were told that their eye makeup let down the whole look so get 15 minutes on a redo. It would allow the MUA’s to still work in their style and would feel like they’d earned their spot on actual value not just that they knew some random technique better.

Same as Bake Off.

Started with ordinary women people who could make a good sponge (and everywhere people watching thought "Oooh! Warming the jam first! That's genius - I could do that! " etc) and then ended up with neurodivergent transgender blokes in drag building a scale model of the Kremlin out of shortbread and spun sugar.*

It got silly.

I stopped watching.

I wanted something I could both enjoy watching and learn from, and it lost all of that.

*Not quite, but you know what I mean

Edit. 🥕
It's 8am and you've already made the comment of the day 🤣 GENIUS!!!!

Hilarious, but absolutely spot on!

I’m just catching up now and I don’t know if it’s a me problem? 😂 they’re throwing around the word “masterpiece” and they all look shit? Not one finessed look, they all look rough. I actually thought Finley’s final look was one of the few that was good?

Also didn’t understand the footlocker brief and their opinions at all…

Finally WTF is a glitter lash?!

I'm all caught up now- could see that double save a mile off. They know who they want, unfortunately I don't think its the person who is the most highly skilled and likely to succeed in the industry with its fast pace

I forget the girls name who went up against Jake in the face off but I thought her reverse ombré was slightly better tbh. Clearly they kept him in for entertainment. He seems the weakest of the lot, the yellow and black flowers stuck on his face 😂 wth

does anyone else find Val really annoying????
Ugh yes - "Ding Dong Dahhhling!"

Only just finishing episode.
Why do they always carry on like they are going to wet themselves with excitement when a guest comes out?
Must say I had no idea who the girl off selling sunsets was but she was a better presenter and had a better rapport with the contestants than leomie

I think a good judge might be Lisa Armstrong. She does Strictly as well as lots of other stuff.
Agree the big stagey prosthetic looks got a bit boring and unrelatable tbh. Even something like 'Red carpet glamour' would be interesting, or emulate a celebrity's signature makeup look.
(Apologies if they actually did something like this, I didn't see the whole series).
