I loved Ella all the way through and liked that she didn’t have a sob story to play on. Think she’d have been even better if she waited a year or two to apply.
Connor really grew on me and his masterclass was fabulous! So likeable and I loved that he focused on glam rather than the ‘face paint’ style looks they try to push.
Shana was consistently strong all the way through and I loved her final creative brief.

No idea who that is.
Looking at the contestants, they don’t give me hope for a non race painting series. I think it’s going to turn into Big Brother, Love Island, where people only go to get spotlight and become full time influencers.

I was shocked the first time Nikki got through and then I was shocked all over again! Belinda was by far the better artist and got the briefs so much better.

Yes that’s it, it doesn’t fit with the rest of the show. I think you could remove it entirely and base who goes entirely on the second challenge. Otherwise we get a result such as Alex really messing up the professional brief still going through. Totally agree that working on a beauty counter is a huge bonus for the face off even though Glow Up in general seems to be about doing anything but ‘normal’ looks. Instead it’s stage make up, using a face as canvas or using prosthetics, that’s part of what’s fascinating to watch.
The lack of experience of some really surprises me. I think it is Ryley who’d never put make up on anyone else but herself at the start of the competition. I think she’s great but you know how the show works so wouldn’t you at least get as much practice in on friends and family beforehand.

Well quite. I'd love to see tips for making up older skin. But then I doubt the contestants would be able to do that. Most of them seem to have only made themselves up in their bedrooms, hence the emphasis on face painting which is a lot more forgiving.

Meh they were ok but annoyed me all series somehow. Felt like the kind of person who’d turn on you without a second thought.
Theirs did seem the most polished masterclass but my favourite also wowed in the first task. It did seem short and sweetish this time round. I dunno, mix it up next series please!
During the challenge for Six for example I saw a couple of them cover up quite dramatic skin pigmentation and marks but it wasn’t even commented on during the judging. That I’d actually be interested in.

I’ve watched every season of this show and the only MUA that I was impressed with out of all of them was Ophelia from season 2.
Maybe it’s because there’s a majority of young contestants but I find it very GSCE art project with almost all the looks and their answers to the briefs. They all seem to have the same story.
I don’t think the looks are very good or at least I haven’t been WOW’d by them, like others have said it’s a lot of face painting and not a lot of make up skills.
I wish they’d adopt the level of talent they have in other shows like Next in Fashion, appreciate they’re already established designers already in the industry but I’m sure there’s high talented MUAs wanting an opportunity like this out there…

I really hate that as we've gone series to series, the focus has moved to more concept/costume/social media makeup and away from the basic skills of being a pro-MIUA. It's very much now based on the looks they want to do within a theme, rather than having to work to a client brief, which is essentially what an MUA would have to be able to do day-to-day. Even working as a bridal/occasion artist you're creating something based on a idea from the person who you are working on.
We also really only see focus on core techniques in the two-minute face-off, and it's a shame as I feel none of the artists will have long careers in the pro-industry without those skills.
I don't really have a favourite yet in this series. The level of talent certainly seems to be on the wane. However, I have to see someone standing out to me for the wrong reasons is Joshua. He's very arrogant/cocky about his abilities given what he's actually brought to the chair so far ... I was surprised he's won awards.

as a former MUA, I’ve enjoyed all the series, but the face painting/telling a story on the face isn’t personally my thing. I’d love it if they could do a top glamour high end campaign (Superdrug ermmmm
) and really glam those models up. It’s my thing, I like to see beauty, not face painting. I think Dolly had a bad week this week but I’m eager to see more of her work.
