And also at least on the NHS from what we've been told to get any kind of reassignment surgery you have to be at least 18, have been on testosterone for at least 6 months (which isn't usually given until they're 18 anyway), and they have to have been socially transitioned for at least a year comfortably for them to even consider surgery. So they're most commonly AT LEAST 19 before they can get any surgery which is what we've been told to look at. I don't know what it is for private but I imagine not much different.

And they would've gone through gender clinics, seen psychiatrists, therapists etc. It's not a one visit to your GP and there you go. I wish the process was a little easier for the sake of people like my son who are extremely distressed by their bodies every day but it's just not as simple as people seem to conclude.
Yeah I don't see any children going through surgery. Puberty blockers, maybe but they are reversible, right?

yes, they are reversible. If my son had been vocal about how servere his dysphoria was from that age I wouldn't have had anything against using blockers for him.

Some are reversible. But ones used on boys actually inhibit intellectual development so if puberty isn’t carried out as a natural process they tend to lose 5IQ points that are never regained even after they restart puberty when PB are stopped.

Hormone therapies have their own issues, sterility, bone density degeneration, baldness and hirsuteness in women, infertility, irreversible voice changes in men.

It is to do with the difference between sex and gender.

Sex is easy to define - its whether you are born bodily female or male (not how you identify)

Gender is disputed, some people say it is social roles forced on men and women (like women are delicate, caring and men are unemotional and strong etc) . Some people say they dont have a gender.

Gender critical feminists are critical of all gender roles forced on their respective sexes and think that gender roles and norms are harmful to both men and women.

Transsexuals say they want to be the other sex - as in change bodies, transgender people want to change gender.

Obviously, as gender is difficult to define some transgender people say they don't need to change anything about their body because its their internal gender they are changing - look at someone like Danielle Muscato or Gregor Murray ( https://www.pinknews.co.uk/2019/08/13/scotlands-transgender-politician-gregor-murray-isolating/) who are born male and say they are women, but have not made any attempt to assimilate.

FYI I do not think these people are women.

confusing the matter further is the fact that some people/orgs use the word gender when they mean sex.

There's also the age difference of the terms - transsexual is far more likely to be used by someone of the older generation like Buck Angel (a transsexual former porn star). Transgender is more likely to be used by younger people.

Hope this clears some stuff up.
For me, transsexuals are not the issue, nor those with gender dysphoria

The problem is, the bar is now so low that anyone can define themselves as a woman if they want to.

This is Danielle Muscato. She claims to be the exact same as us. She invites us to suck on her fool

TL;DR on this thread and its discourse: I just wish people wouldn't use transwomen as a scapegoat for pretty much... everything, when it's more often than not (with few exceptions but it seems those exceptions get pushed too much to fight an agenda?) an issue people have with cis men (and yes I use cis men since "men" is not enough in this thread since I have seen gender dysphoric transwomen be referred to as "men in women's clothing"). There is no simple solution to protect everyone's safety but that solution should not come at the expense of transwomen or transmen and their safety.

Anyway, here's an important petition that needs more signatures: https://tattle.life/threads/19920/
I agree that trans women should not be used as a scapegoat. But it goes both ways.
I often see online GC feminists used as a metaphorical punching bag for any and all violence and prejudice towards trans people. Why are TRAs and their supporters so angry at GC feminists instead of the men who kill trans women? For instance, the tone of these tweets of Jameela’s:

And on the same note, check out these jaw dropping tweets where JKR is told she has blood on her hands for the murder of two black trans women due to her "TERF ideology.' The murders were committed by men

This is the problem with the "people are who they say they are" mantra that keeps being repeated. People like Muscato are just like flashers right? They get their thrill from the shock and discomfort of their victims. They want the image to be jarring so they don't bother to assimilate, they are not the same as transwomen who want to live their lives as women.

But, because "people are who they say they are" we have to accept them as transwomen, and therefore as women. That's why Jameela had to say "yes I'd take them all" when sent a long list of cross dressing men who claim to be trans, most of them sex offenders. To say anything else breaks the doctrine.

Exactly. We're being told to quash instincts- sometimes the only thing that can save us. I have no qualms in saying that if Muscato walked into the womens toilets I would be on edge. But Jameela and others want us to ignore that instinct. I for one won't be quashing my hard won instinct

It’s rare but it happens. Look at Jazz Jennings. Horribly mutilated, mostly because Jazz started puberty blockers so young, the pen didn’t grow and there wasn’t enough tissue to create the neo tina. They had to use colon tissue instead IIRC.

And Susie Green, founder of Mermaids, took her child all the way to Thailand to have surgery on their 16th birthday. Had to go to Thailand because it wasn’t allowed anywhere else. It’s now illegal in Thailand too.

Not to mention all the teenage girls having double mastectomies.

So just because it’s rare, it shouldn’t be dismissed as a non-issue. These surgeries should not be happening to children.

As for puberty blockers being fully reversible... that’s up for debate. Like with Jazz Jennings, males who take puberty blockers very young do not experience normal genital development. Imagine an 18 year old with the genitals of a child. And then there are the females who’ve been taking blockers and testosterone for years, change their mind and then have to deal with facial hair, male facial features and a deep voice for life.

The other side effect of blockers is lowered IQ. Puberty has an effect upon brain development too.

I mean I think until you have a child of your own with severe dysphoria or experience it yourself it’s hard to understand why people would do it but I completely do. My son did permanent damage to himself trying to delay/stop puberty happening because he couldn’t handle it so personally I would’ve risked the side effects of blockers to make sure he didn’t do worse to himself.

He also attempted suicide as a child/young teen which at the time we thought was just severe depression and he was treated for that but obviously since coming out more has come to light about it. So if I’d known then I wouldn’t have hesitated if it meant an improvement in his mental health🤷🏼‍♀️

I know dysphoria is real. But I think it’s a mental health condition and should be treated as such. ROGD is a real phenomenon too, and I really understand what drives teenage girls to want to identify their way out of being female. They have to cope with impossible beauty standards (thanks, Kardashians) and porn obsessed boys with equally porny expectations of sex. No child is born into the wrong body, but somehow we have sleepwalked into a world that tells gender non-conforming kids, and gay kids, that they are trans. Not to mention the autistic kids who have gone through their entire lives feeling different and wrong. I’m not surprised that autistic kids attend gender clinics in droves.

If I was a teenage girl today I could easily have been drawn into wanting to be a boy. My greatest fear is someone convincing my tomboy, possibly autistic 8 year old that she isn’t a girl either.

I wish you all the best kat.becs, I know you’re doing your best and what you’ve been told is best. But I still don’t agree with teenagers, females especially, being put on blockers and into a lifelong medicalised path that is no guarantee of happiness.

I don't disagree that it is real but I think people are too quick to jump to that being the case for every transgender child. And some people again seem to think it's so simple to get medical treatment when it's really not as simple as people make it out to be sometimes.

And thanks, but I'm not really doing what I've been told is best, I'm doing what is best for my son and what works for him.

That's a man wearing women's clothes, that is NOT a woman. That's someone taking advantage and behaving deplorably, someone trying to stir the pot, someone baiting others. Heaven only knows what perverse pleasure he gets from this behaviour.

I couldn't agree more. The problem is, with the new gender ideology we're expected to accept a cross dressing man as a woman without question

bleeping gross.

That individual is simply a crossdresser... I was talking about this with my husband and the challenges women are facing - being put into a subcategory (CIS) and that I think if someone has a fool they should not be using female facilities, also about how females have requested a female gyne/dr but have got one with a deep voice and stubble but dressed in women's clothing. It is so inappropriate. We both agree that we can be accepting of other's ways of life and views, we socially pretty liberal but the extreme left is taking it too far. The world has gone mad.

The scales are falling and people are starting to see the modern trans ideology in it's true light.

he is a crossdresser and yes, he's taking the piss, but yesterday you called transwomen 'men who crossdress', too. Which is not what they are and you never even addressed that 🤷🏼‍♀️

jeez, I don’t like Caroline but all she said was, “get in the bin,” in other words, JK is talking rit with that hateful, fearmongering essay 🤢 transphobes and “gender critics” act like cis men will pretend to be women just so they can grape and beat up women in women’s bathrooms, ffs. like yeah, some men will, but they won’t literally transition. it’s not done on a whim for a hidden agenda. it isn’t easy to transition and it takes YEARS. if men want to assault women, they’ll do it. stop confusing trans women with violent cis men. it’s funny because trans men get a lot of abuse and are killed (like trans women), especially by cis men but nobody talks about it, even though their bigoted logic means they should see trans men as cis women.

sometimes there’s no point trying to educate the likes of JK because it has been done many times, NICELY, and it just falls on deaf ears. so all we can do is to be like, stop talking absolute rit and wise up, especially when we don’t have the patience. JK’s timing is vile, it is absolutely vile that she chose Pride Month and the ongoing situation with the murder of George Floyd and BLM to spew her hateful rhetoric towards trans people who are especially vulnerable right now. read up on the history of Pride and Stonewall if you don’t believe me.

@barmj I'd suggest reading this Twitter thread on Stonewall from someone who was actually there. It seems like TRAs are spreading falsehoods on what actually happened

I’m having a look right now but not impressed so far, a gay cis man who dismisses the T from LGBT and he quoted a Nazi?! Also, I don’t consider myself a TRA as trans activism isn’t something I largely focus on (my main focus tends to be on feminism, politics and disabilities). I just think trans people deserve basic human rights and to be treated with basic human decency, they don’t deserve big name celebs like JK endangering their lives (her essay will have fueled transphobes, and the essay contains loads of misinformation and fearmongering).

Where are Jo Elvin’s comments on magazine covers?

They don’t need to transition. The only thing they transition is through the door into women’s hard-won, biologically separated safe places.
Cis men do that anyway? They don’t need to change their gender. Men who assault women don’t care what the law dictates, they don’t need makeup and feminine clothes to do that. I really hope you don’t suggest we should have some sort of a bodyguard checking if you have a fan before you enter the women’s bathroom, that is absolutely cooked.
