I get that and trans people aren't one homogenous group. I saw someone say once that it's up to trans people to decide what constitutes transphobia. So if some trans people are saying that they don't consider it transphobic to not class themselves as the same as a biological male/ female (as appropriate), is that considered transphobic?
After some of the slurs put forward to us women in this thread the thought of one trans person being labelled trans phobic by another trans person really makes me smile ... oh the irony!! 🤣🤣

There actually is a term for trans people who view other trans people as phobic. It's called transcum

I'll let Urban Dictionary do the explaining here

"a term used for people who believe you need dysphoria to be trans/you can’t be transgender without some type of dysphoria.
i don’t have dysphoria, and that transc-m stephanie decided to tell me i’m not really trans *"

Have you reported the posts?
I haven't seen any personally but you should report it.
No one wants the discussion to descend into insults.

The idea that a huge part of the trans community believe you can only be trans if you experience dyphoria was discussed. There seems to be 'two' sides to the community - those who believe you have to experience dysphoria and those who don't.

Personally I don't understand how you can be trans without it, as the definition of gender dysphoria is "distress a person feels due to a mismatch between their identity and their sex assigned at birth" which is what being trans is. I'm not saying it's not possible but I don't really understand it.

That’s something I struggle to understand too. I was always under the impression you had to have dysphoria In order to be considered transgender, it is said that being trans isn’t a choice but aren’t these people without gender dysphoria essentially ‘choosing’ to be trans?

Yes exactly and they're expecting to be classed the exact same as women.

I wouldn't necessarily say they're all expecting to be classed exactly the same. Just as transwomen with dysphoria aren't.

But no I don't understand that side of the community either. I'm not down with telling someone they aren't trans if they believe they are, but dysphoria is a large part of being trans so it's not a concept I understand.

I agree. Just simply dressing up as a woman and telling everyone they're women and repeating "trans women are women" seems to be part of the modern trans ideology. Previously dressing up as a woman was known as being a transvestite or cross dresser.

I don't know, I wouldn't necessarily say that. Maybe for a minority but even in the part of the trans community who think you don't need dysphoria, many are going through the transition and becoming transwomen/transmen. I think maybe they're just mislabeling their discomfort in their body as normal discomfort and not the dysphoria that it really is? I don't know but I don't really doubt that there are actual trans people who are saying that they don't have dysphoria, but are maybe just misunderstanding their dysphoria. Idk. Like I said I don't really understand that POV.

I'll refer you to the opening sentence of one of your own posts:

"Why can I not use the term terf to describe transphobic feminists, male or female?"

That's a slur in my eyes. I wouldn't dream of labelling another person because they don't agree with my views, I'd just accept that our views differ. It's called being civil.

I haven't called anyone a terf.

However, that's one example. You referred to slurs.

Dear god, trying to get you to see any point of view other than yours is like trying to eat soup with chopsticks. Impossible!! 🤯🤯🤯

Anyway I came across this on Twitter that is a list of trans rights related petitions. Mainly USA based but they need all the help they can get right now and every signature helps. Especially with trump revoking their health care protections.

This video popped up on my YouTube homepage again. I always find it to be a refreshing, lighthearted watch but something that can still offer a chance to educate people who are otherwise ignorant to what it means to be trans, and the hardships faced by the community. There are a lot more informative videos out there that I love, but I appreciate this one for its delivery and for how Russell keeps to the very simple concept of 'trans people deserve the same rights and treatment as everyone else'.

Have to say one part of the trans activism side of this debate seems to reek of white privilege. They still haven't addressed the issue of Muslim women in women only spaces, and they didn't give a rats ass about statistics about poorer women or PoC, both in the UK and abroad. I've seen black women in the UK who are doing a lot of work to fight FGM be abused for calling it F!!!GM. Sickening. Privileged white women are not all that matter, and seem to be the only people taken into account when saying trans rights don't diminish women's rights. Makes sense though as some of the loudest people speaking over and abusing JKR are straight, white, rich males who have never had to acknowledge their privilege.

YES! 👏🏻🙌🏻

It’s rage inducing to be made to feel that a fear of males in my personal space can have me painted as a “TERF” or some horrendous bigot... even more rage inducing when said strong view point comes from early 20s straight middle class white boy. Who knows and understands duck ALL about the feelings, challenges, fears and concerns of women.

Precisely. I have received both physical and verbal abuse from various men over the years and know how utterly gut- wrenching and frightening it feels. I have large breasts and I'm blonde and some men seem to think that these characteristics make me fair game. I've had my bum groped on the escalators in a busy shopping centre, I've had my breasts inappropriately touched at a very busy racecourse and an ex-boyfriend bullied me into having sex when I didn't want to, I've been verbally abused by men shouting "hello big bits" in the street. I therefore do NOT want men who say they feel like a woman invading women only spaces, these men could very easily be predators looking for an easy victim. Fortunately my husband is a wonderful person who was brought up to respect and value women and I know many, many other men do too, so please don't think I hate men, I don't!
