The ultimate in misogyny and oppression - I can’t tell you how many times over the last few years that I’ve been told ‘we don’t need feminism anymore.’ Now, we’re being erased as a political, social, and biological category. And these men expect us to fight for their ‘rights’ to fake wombs and stuff? When we still don’t have healthcare equality for ourselves? ...if I don’t laugh, I will cry tbh
I am a feminist. Not a hard-nosed misandrist one though. But I just think equality should be accessible to all, and above all on a level playing field. But it does irk me how the Trans tribes have come out of nowhere and expect special dispensation and privilege over everyone else. And if you don't agree you're labeled as toxic and bigoted.

I rarely mention that I am a lesbian on some of the social media forums I frequent because that just invites abuse from the usual suspects; but it really is the thin end of the wedge when I am not even allowed to call myself a woman, ffs!

Just want to say, I saw how you were treated on the Jack Monroe thread and was appalled. For a group that loves to pat itself on its back about how moral and kind they are, they sure like to aggressively crush those who dissent from their popular opinions. You were brave for speaking up!

Regardless of anyone's opinion on gender, Jack Monroe is a chronic liar, label-collector and attention seeker. Why should her low-effort non-binary claims be treated differently than any of her other bullshit? She got what she wanted out of it, which is a label, an oppressed status, and column inches.
Thanks. I really appreciate it.

But I wasn’t surprised. Hate directed at gender critical women is socially acceptable... encouraged even, isn’t it? Doesn’t matter if the hate comes from other women because they’re ignorant about what we’re facing here - the most important thing is to virtual signal 🙃

I actually forgot myself in that thread and said too much. I should have known it was a bad idea to take my opinions outside of a safe space like this thread.

Saw this on Twitter from a proud Mum "I love my son so much". It made me cringe so hard and my sympathies go out to the poor teacher. It's hard enough dealing with teenagers as it is without adding this nonsense into the mix

This is the third thread for Gender Discussions. Hope it’s ok that I kept the title simple as with the previous threads!

Beforehand there was a discussion on Irish feminism, in particular Barbie Kardashian and the HSE removing the word woman from its advice about cervical cancer.

I think that they mainly revolved around the idea that trans women are people that we should be fearful of, which I don't believe to be true.

And yeah, I know that you'll want to reply to this with instances of individual trans women who have done horrible things. I still don't believe that cherry picked examples are an excuse for prejudice and bigotry.
It has been said time and time again, drawing attention to the male behaviour and strength of biological males is not "cherry picking" or implying that transwomen should be feared. That is NOT the point. The point is that they are no more safe than any other male, and need to be treated as such. Males are not "feared", but our sex-segrated safe spaces such as prisons, shelters and toilets give us protection from them as it's acknowledged that they statistically commit most violent and sex crimes. Transwoman statistically exhibit male pattern criminality, ie sex crimes and violence. In terms of public safety, they are no different from men.

Long tome lurker, first time poster.
Had to create an account to post this.
The national women's council of Ireland has appointed a trans identified male to their board
The same week they attended a conference all about the bias in the healthcare system against women.
You couldn't make this up.
It is so disheartening to see this.
I'm so glad to have found this community of like minded individuals.

At least SANDS had the decency to acknowledge their mistake. Freddy can get to fuck though.
It's just the audacity...they really are trying to create a two tier citizen system? Wanting transmen to get to be called Father while 'normal' Fathers (for want of a better word here) have to lump being called 'non-birthing parent'...I don't bloody think so

I'm sorry but honestly if your female biology disgusts you that much that you want to exclude the word mother for everyone in the world what in the name of fresh hell are you doing giving birth?
I can't get my head around the idea that someone experiences gender dysphoria so badly they transition, want to have their bodies chopped up etc, but they do one of the most female things of all time - pregnancy and birth. How does that fit into the dysphoria? If I felt like I should've been born a man, the absolute last thing I'd want to do would be a very very female experience? Make it make sense!

Not sure if this has been covered as Ive just discovered this thread, but has anyone else noticed the huge rise in teenage girls deciding to be trans men? I wonder if this erasure of women and the shame it brings is part of that? As well as the fact Girls tend to feel awkward about their bodies in these years and are now told quite forcefully online that it must mean they are trans.....its concerning.
The teenage years are tough. From age 10, 11 onwards girls are sexually objectified by boys and men. I know I was. Boys at school asking me if I was “frigid” (I didn’t know the word), talking about ‘2 girls 1 cup’. I imagine it’s even worse these days with porn as prolific as it is, especially the violent and degrading nature of it. If someone said you could opt out of puberty and avoid the horrid parts of growing up and being objectified and the pain of periods etc, I think many girls would desperately do it. It’s so so sad.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that there are many reports of young girls “detransitioning” over lockdown, away from peer pressure and prying eyes.

Just catching up but also came to say I finally got pronouned too - asked to put them in my Zoom name on a committee I volunteer for. I said I didn’t want to as my pronouns aren’t my name, I don’t put my title or any other info about myself there that isn’t my name so why would I want pronouns there? Some clown said ‘so we know we’re not misgendering you’ !!! Anyway I just said I’m not doing it, when we are conversing I expect to be called ‘you’ anyway and what you use when speaking about me to others is none of my business/I don’t care. I noticed a couple of other ladies looked uncomfortable at being asked to put their pronouns up too, none of the men minded though 🙄

What rubbish. Wonder what the female entrepreneur who founded it 80 years ago would make of "people who bleed"

"Periods are taboo so let's shatter those taboos by removing the word woman". Great logic!

The pronouns thing is getting out of hand. Trans people can call themselves what they want or use whatever pronouns they want but when they force unwanted terms (cis) and unnecessary pronoun use in the rest of us, nope, not having it

I think it is really horrible and immoral for some trans identified people to insist on gay, bisexual and lesbian people being attracted to them... or else it’s “hatred.” I’m heterosexual, so you wouldn’t find it acceptable to emotionally manipulate me into accepting attraction to another woman, so why is it “acceptable” to force a lesbian to be in a relationship with a trans identified woman with male sexual organs? What about the rights of the individual? There should be forums and places where pansexual and trans identified people can say what they are up for and meet one another in the knowledge that they are all singing from the same page. They should stop harassing LGB people. If that vastly reduces their dating pool that that’s their problem. I’ve not time for people being bullied into submission to someone else’s agenda like that. Imagine being a teenager with a friend like that that starts telling you who you should be attracted to and then shaming you for not wanting that.

I’ve no problem with trans identified people finding happiness with people on a similar page, but for goodness sake, stop forcing agenda on others. Sexual attraction is a personal thing which no one else should have a steer on other than the individuals concerned. And it should be mutual, not one sided.

When I was a member on Digital Spy a year or so ago, as soon as I mentioned I was a lesbian, I had a number of PMs from TIMs (presumably) calling me all sorts of bad things purely because I had never acknowledged the existence of trans in any of my posts. Which is another reason why I quit DS

I will admit to having some trepidation when joining Tattle because I was expecting the same kind of shite.

Fortunately this doesn't seem to be the case❤

Pleased to see the comments on that tampon ad are pretty much universally scathing of Tampax’s pitiful attempt at virtue signalling.

Imagine if Gillette got loads of stick for their razor tag line being “the best a man can get?” Hey Gillette, it’s not just men who have beards you know. Where’s the outcry there? Give me strength

Here’s what I don’t get about children and puberty blockers. If trans women are women and a penis is female if the owner of it says they are female, how can a child be in danger of going through the wrong puberty? Why is sex only real in this case? Surely then it shouldn’t matter what puberty a child goes through and any blockers, hormones and surgeries are purely cosmetic. Seems to me that the push for puberty blockers goes completely against the idea of self id as we’re trying to have a generation of trans people who better ‘pass’ which makes no sense if the ‘gender’ that they’re trying to pass as isn’t sex related.

Don’t get me wrong I’m all for informed adults having the choice to medically transition. But why is there such an issue about kids going through puberty if sex isn’t real?

I'm from the JM thread and have been browsing since the Keira Bell announcement a few days ago.

For me, I think there are genuine trans people for whom transitioning is the best option for them to lead a happy life. I want these people to have equal rights and to be supported. However, what we don't want is people who are merely non-conforming to gender stereotypes to end up going through this difficult medical journey if it's ultimately not the right thing. I also don't think it's helpful for people for whom transition is right to have the waiting lists blocked up by people for whom it's not right. I don't think it's helpful either for trans people, if in 5-10 years there's a spate of detransitions. That's just a gift to the right-wing and the anti-LGBT+ lobby.

Similarly, it's not good for trans people when people like JM jump on the 'I'm trans' bandwagon for 6 months.

I find the Susie Green story interesting. I wonder how their child would have grown up if the parents hadn't freaked out about the toys. It feels like to me that by the age of 2/3 their child learned from them that that they couldn't be a boy and be themselves. I wonder what would have happened if the parents had just been normal about it.

I know Mermaids now say that toy choices are not indicative of gender, but then Susie's entire story is founded on toy choices.
