It’s so annoying. And Carrie is supposed to be an author herself. Aren’t authors supposed to read books first before judging the book. As the saying goes, NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER! Yes, I believe these days transgender is the word used regardless of whether someone MTF or FTM has had surgery. But basically someone choosing to live as/identify as the opposite 'gender'. As per some googling, I understand the distinction used to be that if you got surgery you were Transsexual. So the very early people to do so still use that world (and are, obviously, of an older gen) and younger TRAs see it as a bit perjorative these days?

It's really irritating me the number of people judging this book without reading it! There are conflicting reviews, how can you have an opinion about it when you haven't read it yourself. It's sheer stupidity. Also not sure how people on the TRA side don't think it's a slippery slope from here, making judgements about people and their books based on hearsay alone, and all this talk of book burning. And we're meant to think this is progressive?

Ok I’m so confused about this book issue. I thought the potential serial killer was transvestite, which I think isn’t transgender? I’m honestly confused by the terms transvestite and transgender because I’ve read contradictory things.
Even if the serial killer was a member of the trans community, it doesn’t mean it puts them at grave risk? Wouldn’t this excessive negative publicity actually put the community at more risk? I don’t know.
Another thought I have is what about the millions of books where males kill males, where is the outrage for a fictional loss of life then?! Same for women killing women in a book? Where is the outrage for all crime books? Why is it only an outrage when the suspect is a cross dresser?! Where is the outrage for a male character going on a serial kill hunt killing several women? Where is the outrage and boycotting on books and hatred for the author then?! You killlllled lots of people in that book you wrote and that's a hatecrime. Ffs.
This is a provisional opinion as I haven’t read the book so I’m going solely by what I’ve seen others say about it: but I don’t see what this has to do with the trans community at all, yet. Seems like the character everyone is complaining about is a transvestite - so crucially, not transgender at all - but a man who dresses up as a woman to prey on women. So this seems to me like it’s more of a comment on the dangers of self ID and not about anything to do with transgenderism? But interestingly, trans people who have (claimed to have) read the book are saying this is still offensive to them. Yet I thought transgender people aren’t just ‘men in dresses’ so why would they even think this applies to them? Pretty telling if you ask me. Anyway could be wrong as I’ve not read it but it doesn’t sound like that character is even transgender 
TRAs love to twist things to suit their agenda. One minute they'll screech "trans is not just about men in dresses, there's more to it than that!" The next minute: "JR Rowling has a book and there is a man wearing a dress who is a murder suspect, this is a DIRECT ATTACK and LITERAL VIOLENCE against the trans community"
