But her mam has said the signs were there from the age of 2 with some of the things she would say.
Could you please explain to the rest of us what these 'signs' were?

I mean, at 2 years old, my son had very long hair and used to dress up in anything he could find - including a tutu. He loved pushing his teddies around in a buggy. He used to pretend to do my hair and use my make up brushes on me and himself because they felt funny and made us laugh. At 18 he's a bruiser who likes wearing heavy metal band t-shirts...and still has very long hair. Not once did we ever suspect he was actually a girl, or giving off trans signals. Jeez. What is wrong with these people!!!

I can just imagine the conversation with my family if I'd said 'hey guys, I'm pretty sure he's been born onto the wrong body and he's actually a girl.... They would have called social services/threw a bucket of cold water over me rather than indulge my delusions.

Attention seeking 101. These parents need serious interventions in the form of jail time. I am so sick of holes.

Has anyone else seen this? This is a follow-on from the women who refused (and in a very respectful way) to fence against a man. USA Fencing Minnesota has responded by removing the Women's Category altogether. Mixed Category only. I wish all of the men would refuse to compete. Leave it ALL to the trans.

It's all about the Menz.

Hi everyone, I've read this thread on and off for a while and I wonder if this might be a good place to ask for advice. This is long so I'll pop it behind a spoiler.

I have a relative who was trans. She recently detransitioned and is finding a lot of difficulty, gate keeping and opposition for her decision.

For context, she was born a girl and grew up in a household where domestic abuse and sexual abuse was the norm. She struggled with her mental health, depression has always been there. She struggled with her identity as a teenager in terms of going through phases (goth, emo, preppy and so on). As a young adult, she came out as trans and was disowned by her family. She lived abroad for a time and recieved testosterone via the insurance based health service. When she returned to Scotland, she was seen at a gender clinic. The Dr (now retired in Spain) at the clinic did not look into my relative's mental health or history of sexual abuse. She was not assessed by a psychologist either which I find shocking. She now feels that as a naive, young adult, traumatised and confused, she was steered towards transitioning, including being asked leading questions. After a few sessions at the clinic, she had a full mastectomy and hysterectomy in her early 20s (on the NHS) and had been on testosterone for the last 16 years or so.
Last year she was able access support via a mental health nurse and this lead to her realisation regarding her trans identity.
She now feels she became trans as a defence mechanism to cope with the trauma from being abused by men. I think she is right.
She is devastated because now of course, she cannot have children and is struggling with facial hair and a non feminine appearance.
She had to fight to get permission to stop taking testosterone and has only recently been allowed to start taking HRT. She will not recieve help from the NHS for reconstructive surgery. She does not have the funds to fund this privately and this is affecting her mental health.
She has reached out to charities such as Stonewall and Women For Scotland and they don't want to know, stating its not their area.
She is looking to take some sort of legal action against the clinic as she feels and certainly the evidence suggests, that she was pushed into a decision when she didn't have full mental capacity. She has been left feeling let down, rejected and that the trans movement is very much a cult. I'm starting to think that way myself. I supported her for years, for the sake of her mental health and against my own instincts. Since witnessing how establishments are shutting down discourse and access to help for detransitioners, I'm convinced it is a cult now. Detransitioners seem to have pariah status, there is not a great deal of information on the Internet about it even.

Does anyone here have any insights into how my relative can either access affordable or ideally free legal advice? She either needs financial compensation to fund breast reconstruction or somehow convince the NHS to do it for free. That's her biggest issue right now. Thankfully she did not have bottom surgery during the trans years. She is funding regular electrolysis herself. She is heartbroken that she has been robbed of her ability to have children. I've wondered if it's even possible to contact JK Rowling about this but I doubt she reads her own mail. It's just very frustrating because we don't know where to look or who to ask. It's obviously quite a niche and complex situation but my relative deserves help and support. It's utterly galling that men play acting as women will be humoured but a bio woman's issues will be swept under the carpet.
I'd be grateful for any help or advice. I'm feeling especially let down by Women for Scotland and increasingly worried for my relative's mental health.

Thank you for this! I went to M+S this week to try on bras (their sizings are . . . inconsistent!) and there was a bloke sitting inside the entrance to the changing rooms. I assume he was waiting for someone, but it seemed wrong for the assistant to allow him to be there. Fine, men might need to sit down, but they don't need to sit INSIDE the women's lingerie changing room!
Just occurred to me - are female M&S bra fitters compelled to measure larping men and help them get their "fit" and try on different styles?

Because if they are, that's surely sexual harassment? I would think most women wouldn't want to play into a male sexual fetish like this.

Completely agree. I've posted how - when I took my elderly mother to have a bra fitting - my male relatives waited at the other end of the store!
Even if this man had needed to sit down, surely a chair could have been placed outside the entrance? Unless suffering from some sort of cognitive decline, I struggle to understand how any decent man would feel comfortable waiting inside the area like that.

So that basically translates to “naughty women who complain about men spoiling their stuff will be punished by having everything taken away from them, rather than men being told to stick to their own stuff and get hurty feelz”. 😡

I'm sorry - I can't help with your relative's very distressing situation, but it's possible that there may soon be calls for group litigation against the people who carried out this sort of treatment without proper psychological assessment. I hope that you do manage to get something done much sooner, but if not all I can suggest is that she keeps alert. I'm sure this sort of litigation will come, because there have been so many vulnerable people, like your relative, who have been butchered (it's not too extreme a term) in the name of this ideology.

I don't think JKR offers individual help (she would be swamped). I think she is very careful to help fund cases against employers where all other avenues have failed, and preferably where there will be high profile judgements which will move things on and help people like your relative indirectly.

I wish you much luck - I hope that there is help for her out there.

This!!! A thousand times over!! The problem here in stories like this is slapping everyone in the face and people are ignoring it.

You have an aggressive father who, from a very young age, was not letting a boy do anything perceived as feminine. No doubt said things like ‘that’s for girls. This is for boys’. No wonder the poor boy grew up thinking he must be a girl if he likes girl things. His father had firmly categorised what boys do and what girls do and seemed pretty aggressive about it. This kind of attitude from a parent would be at the very least considered emotional neglect which is traumatic in children. Traumatic childhood seem to be a common denominator with “trans”children.

People need to stop for a minute and ask themselves what would happen to these children if the child has emotionally healthy parents who consistently supported the message that being a boy who likes what is seen as typically girly doesn’t mean they are girl, and it’s absolutely ok for boys to like feminine things and they will still be a boy.

Instead you have everyone around him, including now in adulthood, supporting his belief that he must be a girl because he has strong feminine traits. And in today’s culture this has just got far worse and in bigger numbers. Makes me so bloody angry.

Boys with feminine preferences or traits aren’t girls.
Girls with masculine preferences or traits aren’t boys.

Gender non-conformity should be celebrated. Not conditioned to be meaning that it must mean they are a different sex.
Ideally, there shouldn't be male or feminine traits - just traits.

Contact M&S and report it. They need all this stuff bringing to their attention.

I love it. I'm 39 for another 3 months and while I don't know where the time between 25 and 40 had gone, I can confirm the giving a duck diminishes dramatically in your late 30s. Christ knows what I'll be like by 60. 😂
I can confirm that the amount if ducks you give diminishes with age. I’m 62 and have none left to give 😂

This is absolutely classic for FtM transition.

There's probably British detransitioners online who she can contact and share stories and support with. I know there's a bloke who was mutilated, but she'd probably prefer to share with a woman. There's that girl who went to GIDS, but I can't remember her name of the top of my head.

She could apply to JKR’s legal fund.
Bayswater Support Group might be able to help.

Ideally, there shouldn't be male or feminine traits - just traits.
Overall, I would tend to agree, people both male and female have the same basic needs but I spose, Im happy to acknowledge that there are a few separate male and female traits...... and that there are differences between the sexes....

It could be learned behaviour, but there are differences in things like empathy and seeing things from a different point of view, that I think a lot of women and girls are more guided in , than men. Women do seem to be expected to be more compassionate and caring, even now. Whilst men are expected to be more practical?

Maybe it is more about feminine or masculine traits....that either sex can have? Im perfectly happy to meet a man with more feminine traits, or a woman with more masculine traits..... As long as basic biology is also recognised. (And of course we live within a society that doesnt penalise against masculine or feminine traits!)
