The cynic in me says because many people, including women, don't care about women. Be kind, what's it's got to do with you, why are you so worried about something that doesn't effect you. That's what we're told day in day out. It's taken seeing a woman getting the head punched off her by a man to wake people up the wider problem of gender ideology.

Unfortunately, despite the huge leaps in technology and scientific discovery in the last few years, the general public are largely scientifically illiterate. Lots of perfectly intelligent people have no idea that the Earth goes round the Sun, or why a day is 24 hours long. Ask anyone their star sign and they'll know it, but ask them how lightning is created, why the sky is blue, or how the touchscreen on their phone works, and you'll get a blank look. (I'm not being twatty about this, I'd struggle to answer these myself!
) But stating that human sex is "non-binary" is absolute rubbish, for the context of sporting categories. Mithering on about the tiny number of people who have chromosomal disorders, or bloody clownfish, seahorses and so on, is just deliberately muddying the waters. Those female boxers have been physically assaulted by men in a sporting arena, they should sue the a off the IOC. Get Bach on the stand and make him provide proof that all of the "women" boxers in the 2024 Olympics were female. We'll see how his superior scientific knowledge really stacks up

Exactly. He was in a competition to find the best male swimmer and he won. Obviously his body was better suited to excelling at swimming than other male bodies but that's what made him the best male swimmer. That doesn't mean that men with DSD get to participate in the best female swimmer competition - there is no logic to that argument. Their testicles and male hormone levels don't make them better suited to swimming than the other competitors - they make them male.
I can only speak for myself but we all have so many issues to deal with, personally I have a neuro diverse child so have been fighting for diagnosis, support in school etc and most of my reading has tended to be around this and other issues directly effecting me. I have a parent dealing with mental health issues, there’s only so much we can take on if that makes sense so sometimes you have to choose your battles. But my point was this has highlighted it for more people and that’s a good thing.

Sorry to quote you again but i also think in 2009 social media wasn’t the same, look at it now when someone goes missing like Nicola Bulley or Jay Slater and social media erupts so you see it everywhere, no one set up missing people groups so they could all discuss conspiracy theories we just left it to the police. Now there’s more opportunity to find information, talk to others about it, learn about the issue. Sadly there is still so much false information sharing but at least people can research and come to their own conclusion. I have seen a lot of people saying the same as us on each post about IK, it’s the IOC that need to act though and I think more athletes standing up to them and saying it needs to stop.

When I first saw the TWAW stuff, maybe 7/8 years ago I honestly thought it was made up nonsense, some David Icke type conspiracy theory, it couldn't possibly be true, so I mainly ignored it, and it was the Man Friday protests at Hampstead Ponds weirdly that made me realise it was happening.
I didn't know enough to comment, and don't live in England, never mind London or Hampstead, but I started following it.
As time went on I learned more, but I'm not great at articulating what I mean, so it was great when JKR basically said exactly what I think in her first essay.
As we all now know, that's a "nazi/bigot/racist/fascist/putin lover/stamps on kittens", things to say.
That's when I realised there is no middle ground, you accept TWAW or you get all the names.
So, no, I was never kind, I did discover there isn't a middle ground, so maybe that was my, "peaking"?

Sorry to ask a daft question, but what is the Michael Phelps thing? He's a man competing in men's events against other men? Why is anyone comparing him competing against other men, to women competing against men? Has he got tiny propellers hidden in his boy bits?

He competed very fairly as he was allowed to, as are tall basketball players which also keeps coming up.

I thought it was a kind of niche thing that nobody really believed. I was shocked when I found out that Lia Thomas was actually competing against women and people really believe that twaw.
I guess it is still a niche thing that most people don't believe. The trouble is that the people who do believe are in positions of power and influence. It's been allowed to get totally out of hand because it wasn't nipped in the bud.

On the contrary. The people who truly do believe are troubled children who don't know any better. Even people who are genuinely dysphoric are well aware which sex they are - they just can't cope with their sexed bodies, for whatever reason.
The people who are in positions of power and influence are deliberately pushing an agenda they profess to believe in, but know is false, because they are gaining more power and influence - and a hell of a lot of money in many cases - and a large proportion of them are able to publicly indulge fetishes that they once wouldn't have dared bring out into the light of day. (And anyone who complains is transphobic/ bigoted, whatever.)
