When I saw the deliberate (and illegal) punching to the back of the head by the Lin Yu-ting go unpunished I knew that this was true.It’s so depressing. I mean, you couldn’t get a situation that is much clearer about the issue with men in women’s sport and also the poor IOC policy that determines which category someone should compete in.
I honestly think even if one of the women died it would still be ‘but that’s the risk you take in a combat sport’.

I saw a post on x the other day with a graph that showed referrals to gender clinics are falling in lots of areas and that it's looking like 2021 was the peak so that's giving me hope at least. There's a lot of damage to fix though.

I don’t know why anyone doubts the IOC is corrupt. There have been rumours and allegations for years. Believing that China might be doping and the US have been told to stop going on about it is a reasonable allegation according to the right-on people I know (I hate the term woke so is there a better word/term?) but believing that Khelif is a man and the IOC knows? Completely unfeasible.
But there is a positive. When those 3 men stood on the podium in the women’s 800m in Rio, there was very little mainstream media coverage. There were rumblings but it was very low key and I don’t remember anything during the heats, just after the final.
Khelif and Lin have been dogged by this the whole way through. There has been massive coverage. People may not want to believe it but they’re having to talk about it. And that’s a good thing

If it makes anyone feel better I was completely ignorant to all this before the boxing controversy, I didn’t really pay attention to gender issues as I was a bit like live and let live, this thread and the wiki have been educating and am genuinely shocked by how this has been allowed to go ahead. There may be people defending him or spouting nonsense about xy xx etc but I’m sure there are just as many who have been woken up to the issues faced by women. And well done Imane, hope you enjoy your gold medal knowing you cheated everyone out of it, what a great achievement
