I see, so you jumped into a thread without any context, found a post and jumped on that.

We can safely say from your posts that you didn’t realise a lesbian was writing about why Mae Martin basically posing as a lesbian / failing to correct the assumption she was one, might be very annoying, so case closed there. Just for information, lesbians are allowed to talk about this and other things that affect them, without you policing this (whether you’re a lesbian yourself or not).

As for the gender identity element, it isn’t “living a black and white existence” to recognise biological sex. If you think it is “boring” in some way to be aware that being female is real and quite meaningful and you can’t identify out of nor into it, this thread might not float your boat, though in my experience genuine exchanges of views here are welcome. We can all of course play look, look, I’ve found a post that’s wrong! — and engage in “I’m the most open-minded, the best observer of pronouns etc” if that’s our choice.

What I find boring is acting like coming up with or banging on about endless new identities is in some way edgy or modern or more intelligent or worthy than noting what biological reality means for all of us but especially girls and women, or that it’s somehow further forward than the idea Mae Martin can present and act as gender-non-conforming as she wants, or not, and still she is a woman. What’s truly tedious is acting like most people aren’t a little bit “non-binary” once it is clarified what “non-binary” actually means, to the point that it’s basically a pointless term. One concerning part being that that doesn’t stop top surgery for women being part of the expected look once this very freeing identity rolls around, whereas of course men don’t really have to do anything.

In the 80s, we all knew Boy George was a man. In the 90s, Eddie Izzard knew he was, and a transvestite too, and how honest of him. We seem to have gone backwards now. Gender ideology isn’t open-mindedness writ large but simple sexism. “Gender criticals” have very diverse and fluid ideas of gender in comparison to those who think it’s possible to “feel” like a woman or not (even if you are one), they (we, let me get the pronouns right!) just always recognise biological sex.

And for what it’s worth, I quite enjoy Mae Martin’s comedy and she seems like a lovely person. No judgement on her from me. I don’t go along with they/them pronouns as it’s nonsense but that doesn’t mean I have any hate for Mae, or anyone who says they are non binary. People who go around correcting pronouns on behalf of others are the most virtue signalling and smug people, and are actually the ones who are intolerant. Because news flash, you’ll spend literally the rest of your life correcting people because as I said above, it’s nonsense and there will always be people who don’t go along with it but also, you cannot control another person’s words (or opinions). So just don’t even try.

I'm very lucky to be on holiday in Rome at the moment. Today there was a HUGE womens march around the city to protest against violence against women. Hundreds of women, men and children marching, no trans agenda, no violence or hate. The odd pride flag but the whole thing was about WOMEN!! Wonderful to witness

Just a few thoughts about Brianna as don’t want to derail and I’m on the dedicated thread. From what has been reported, it could have been any one of a number of kids they murdered. They had discussed and tried to lure others, Brianna was the one unlucky enough to take the bait. I don’t know whether that’s worse for the family (if it’s even possible to be worse), because they won’t be able to say “THAT’s the reason they chose Brianna, they killed her for being trans”. The truth is they killed any child they could. The boy in the case DID make nasty comments about Brianna gender but these seemed incidental to the other abhorrent things they said. One last thought, I’m sure the punishment for hate crime murder is more severe than other murders. Having said that, it’s also an alleged premeditated sadistic murder of a child. An adult convicted of that is eligible for a whole life order.
The TRAs of course won’t be told and continue to hold up this troubled child as some kind of martyr and it’s detracting from the actual issues here of teenagers mental health, dangers of the internet and knife crime.

Who are they remembering?

Since 2008 there have been 9 trans people murdered. 3 sex workers, 3 murdered by their pimps, 2 murdered by their partners, 1 teenage boy who was murdered in a park by people who knew him (we don't know the details other than it was not a hate crime). None were murdered because of their identity.

During that time averagely 156 women were murdered yearly due to domestic violence alone. (That's 2184 in the 14 years) - We all know why this is not a priority matter for the government.

I think the point is that the appointment of ‘Steph’ in this role is highly strategical and political. Of course there were women who were more suited. Even I, having never had endo but know what a blight periods are and have experienced excruciating cramps in my life, would be better suited to the role. Thats not taking anything away from those women with endo (biggest of hugs to you as it sounds bloody horrendous). The person behind this charity is on a trans mission, clearly. The hatred for biological women is very apparent. It’s just really sad to me that this is where we’re at these days. Men who threaten women can not only do no wrong and get away with it, but they can do shit like this to really rub salt in the wounds. He is loving every second of this. He lives to piss terfs off and he’s really pulled it off this time!

I am sure many on the thread will remember Mridul Wadhwa, the TiM who was appointed as CEO of Edinburgh Rape Crisis a couple of years ago.

Ask yourself why these TiMs are so attracted to roles that involve being close to women who are in vulnerable situations.

They have no place leading organisations or charities that are related to women. There are plenty of female charity CEOs who are more than qualified to do this.

I think that's because of the student who was murdered by her ex partner. Her name was Giulia Cecchettin and she was studying engineering. He stabbed her and dumped her body near a lake. She was just about to graduate. Her older sister, Elena said - “For Giulia don’t hold a moment of silence, for Giulia burn everything,” she wrote. “Femicide is a state murder because the state does not protect us. Femicide is not a crime of passion, it is a crime of power.”

I feel bad for the families of people like this. Imagine having to censor everything you say in case they're triggered by you accidentally calling them Sue instead of Dave. No conversational flow, no jokes, no other topic but them and their 'journey'.

Today I was asked to introduce myself at an event give my pronouns. I just ignored the pronoun thing because I have no interest in what people call me when I'm not there. But I've decided next time I'm just going to act dumb and say "I'm sorry what do you mean" and then when they explain "I don't understand" and just keep going until they get sick of me. I'm also thinking of starting to declare my adjectives, insisting that others refer to me by my preferred adjectives of Grumpy/Awesome

And my view is that the best CEO should be appointed to run a business or charity to ensure that it is well run. To only appoint a woman would be sex based discrimination which are women we are well aware is the wrong thing to do.
As I stated in my first post, I do not agree with a man in a dress becoming the face of a womens charity or business. A man in a dress should not be mansplaining about what it feels like to have endo or period poverty or lack of help from GPs or whatever.

But they haven't appointed a man. They have appointed a man dressed up as a woman and insisting we call him Steph. Steph has form for tweeting about 'killing terfs' and how he wants access to women's spaces and nothing will stop him. It's a complete slap in the face for actual women who suffer with this terrible condition.

There is a separate thread for the Brianna Ghey murder trial so I won’t go into the detail here but having seen the outrage today that the defendants are not being charged with hate crime, it brings me back to my own outrage that despite the sheer volume of violent crimes against women and girls being committed day in and day out, men will never be charged with ‘hate crime’ against women.

Because there is no additional protection in law for females on the receiving end of hate based on their sex as there are for trans identified people based on their identity.

Ironically it was comments like these that made me start questioning the whole trans situation. I went along with the “be kind, every identity is valid” stuff for a long time but it really started to bother me the way men on the left are so quick to be horribly misogynistic and ageist towards woman in the name of ‘being a good ally’, while they pat themselves on the back for how sensible and progressive they are.

Anyway hi GC thread, I’m another one who was taken in by it all for years and the penny has finally dropped. Always had things that didn’t sit right for me but kept my mouth shut for fear of being labeled as a bigot. Things like having to pretend AGP isn’t a thing when it is obviously everywhere, or not allowing detransitioners to tell their stories for fear of making the movement look bad, or expecting women to set aside our own instincts to keep ourselves safe for fear of hurting a man’s feelings…Well it took me a long time and I have a lot to learn but I get it now, thanks.

I don't know UK statistics but here in Australia it's an average of one per week, out of a population of 25 million.

Yep, average of 2 per week here in UK, it's so common that most of them aren't even reported. Almost everyone that I know, knows a woman who has been killed. I worked for a woman who was shot by her ex, as she lay in bed with her new partner (they were both killed). A neighbour lived in a flat above a young woman who was killed, along with her baby daughter, by her ex. A schoolfriend lost her entire family when her brother-in-law went on a killing spree, she only survived because she was at her boyfriend's parent's house that night. A family at my junior school were wiped out by the father, who had a terminal illness, and was "depressed". It's just endless, but obviously, we should forget about them and just concentrate on men in dresses, who REALLY need our support
