I just took a look. That poster doesn't appear to haveI've been shouted at in the MAFS thread.
I thought I'd better come and sit in here and think about what I've done.
I'll be in the corner in the Ebil Terve hat. It has glitter on.

Just listen to trans people!!!11 etc and then when people actually do, the listeners take a step back… Most people have a vague idea of what “trans” is but are often sort of kind of “live and let live” and “is it a gay kind of thing, none of my business…”I just took a look. That poster doesn't appear to havemuchany support which is quite heartening. Ella doing the Lords work, I'm sure there were more Pro Trans posters at the beginning of the Show.

I think the “be kind” crowd are a bit dim. It won’t be until they lose out to a man in a dress that they will realise it affects every one of us in some way.The comments on BBC women’s hour are heartening, lots correcting the ‘be kind she’s a woman if she says she is’ crowd. Feel so angry I was duped by this story! We were fully fed the narrative Caster is a woman who just produces more testosterone - not bloody true! I cannot believe the levels of hand wringing society are going to to pretend Caster is a woman hard done by because they can’t compete with women.
I admit to only just realising quite how male Caster is! Its a name and a story I first heard about years ago, and I believed the whole Caster and her family believed she was a girl and brought her up as a girl, so it was just accidental that after she started running and winning races, that it was discovered she was actually DSD.I've also complained to the BBC about their highly misleading article abut Caster. A few people on mumsnet (there are threads on there that talk sense) read the article, assumed Caster was a poor hard done by Woman and then listened to Woman's hour and questioned what they had read.
Or it's possible that they told Caster to pretend to go along with it for a few years or so, win some medals and enough money to get out of poverty. He was manipulated but also took full advantage of the situation.I admit to only just realising quite how male Caster is! It is tragic because someone, not Caster necessarily, has really exploited this situation. And left a horrible mess. Someone brainwashed Caster to tell them that they were a woman and it was perfectly fine for them to compete in womens races. Maybe they didnt actually explain the science and the testosterone stuff properly? Because I never connected the science at all! Maybe the doctors at Caster's birth were at fault for assigning her female at birth because of an absence or confusion of external genitalia?
Its relatively simple now to explain, that Caster's XY genes, give 'her' more testosterone than womens XX genes. So its totally unfair for an XY male to compete against an XX woman in women's events.
But now Caster is left in a very strange situation, she was told she was female, she had doctors and coaches telling her she was a woman, she believed she was female, so it must be very confusing.
But...this publicity cannot be doing them any good at all! It just crystallises the injustice, and the fact that she shouldnt have been allowed to compete in womens events in the past.
Exactly. I remember first watching him race. The camera panned along the competitors as it does and the difference was so stark it was like the emperor's new clothes. Caster looks as manly as Brian Blessed.Yeah I used to feel very sorry for CS for the way this was all dealt with. Agents do take advantage of this condition and scout for those with it. But at some point, CS was made aware of this (long before it was acknowledged in my opinion) and continued to compete against women. I have no sympathy for cheats.
I hate the way this has all been portrayed in the media: Poor Castor she's (sic) just a woman with high testosterone. How awful to have your sex questioned just because you look slightly masculine <<insert implications of racism here because Castor doesn't fit western ideals of femininity>> Other competitors are just bitter because she has a natural advantage [well dur, of course she does, she's a bloke]

Semenya was raised as male and his female birth cert wasn't issued until he was 16 - when it would have been clear that he was male. He was socialised as male - i.e. playing with boys, wanted to be a footballer.Oh im sure that Caster was encouraged to go along with it, to win medals and to get out of poverty! But for many many years he/she was an anomaly. He was assigned female at birth...and maybe it was obvious he wasnt that female... but when did they do all the scientific tests that completely clarified his genetic make up and that his kind of DSD and high levels of testosterone was because of XY genes?
Which then also raise massive issues about personal privacy! Is someones genetic make up public or private information?
In this case there is an argument that because Caster was a world class athlete in womens events, his genetic make up is case of public interest- but is it really? When was it actually officially announced that Caster was XY, and therefore male genetically?
Its a minefield!!
You’re absolutely right. But the “lives as a woman” thing is vital for CS to keep the medals.I'm by no means an expert on DSDs or Caster Semenya so I'm not gonna try to unpick it. But there are two things for me.
1. I question the medical care and attention given to Caster because they evidently should have been recorded as male with a DSD. Not recorded as female and then "socialised" as a woman. I also don't think it was right for Caster's medical issues to be dealt with in full public view and there is a lesson to be learned (if it hasn't been already) for future DSD cases in sport.
2. But as stated. Caster IS male. And when it comes to athletics and competing in female events, Caster should be excluded OR should be given the option to run in their sex class instead, which is male.
Sex classes exist in sports for a reason and it is not acceptable to say "but Caster says they're a woman, so they're a woman". By all means, live as a woman in your personal life, but sporting competitions must be regulated. Otherwise it leaves them completely open to abuse as we have seen.
It was never announced but was documented in the IAAF decision.Oh im sure that Caster was encouraged to go along with it, to win medals and to get out of poverty!
