I saw one in the wild today at Asda, guys. He had shoulder length, frazzled, rainbow coloured hair, was at least 6’2 with a torso the size of a 3 bed house and short skinny legs sticking out of his shorts, literally looked like the typical stereotype, couldn’t believe I saw one in real life. And to make things worse, he had a child with him 🫠 we were behind him and straight away my boyfriend muttered “that’s a man” and I said “and I bet he makes that little boy call him mum”

I can’t agree with aborting a 32-34 week foetus but this poor woman must have been desperate and how does it help her or her kids by sending her to prison? ☹
How could she access the pills without confirming not only how many weeks pregnant she was, but that the pregnancy was viable? When I worked in a TOP clinic that was essential to rule out ectopic pregnancies and also to assess how medically difficult it could be due to increased bleeding etc.

Very poor from BPAS and I hope it doesn’t cause a backlash to women who need these kinds of services.

I don't think anyone should ever be sent to prison for this. It is a far greater crime to try to force someone to give birth against their will especially given all the damage pregnancy can do to the body etc. We can expect to see many more cases like this in order to replenish the future work force and because "not enough of the right (white) babies are being born!"

Telemedicine. During COVID, the government removed the requirement for a woman to have to attend in person for mifepristone. I think as long as the clinics could prove they had risk-assessed patients and explained the risks of an early medical abortion without an ultrasound, the termination was permitted. BPAS' webpage does stress the illegality of taking the tablets over 10 weeks gestation.

I don't agree with a custodial sentence in this case though. We have literal rapists walking the street, this woman is no danger to anyone except herself IMO.

A mother of four committed a crime it wasn’t a first offence shop lifting can we keep perspective with respect

I don’t see this the same way at all considering the maximum it’s not harsh at all, whatever men get away with has nothing to do with it either it’s not tit for tat

I don’t feel one bit sorry for this woman because she has kids to look after why would I? My sympathy is with her children

This is the danger of having a service like that via post it’s also open to abuse by sex traffickers to force teenage girls / women into having abortions so her case really sheds light on the serious issues around this
I agree, this pregnancy was atleast 32 weeks along.

She was 32 to 34 weeks pregnant and she had known she was pregnant for months. At 32 weeks that baby had a 95% survival chance, at 34 weeks a 99% survival chance. She researched and then lied to get what she wanted, she didn't plead guilty (which would have gotten her a suspended sentence)
Do you honestly think that a Woman should be able to abort a baby legally right up until 5 minutes before it's born! because that's what it sounds like you are advocating for. This wasn't some naive schoolgirl, this was a Mother of 3 with enough about her to research and form a story to get what she wanted.
Once the survival percentage goes past 50% unless either the baby is non viable or the Mothers life is at risk then that baby's right to live trumps the Mothers right to an elective termination IMO.

What does race have to do with what this woman has done?

You think this woman has been punished harshly because not enough white babies are being born?

I work in a hospital and someone keeps putting these stickers in the toilets, they keep getting removed but by the end of my shift there’s a new one up.
I’ve seen 1 trans member of staff, built like a brick tit house with a crappy wig, must be around 60. Just hope he uses the mens toilets and changing facilities.

This woman has had abortion prior and given a child up for adoption she kept and looked after 3 herself

She could have had abortion or adopted again if she didn’t want to look after the child but as she had just moved back in with the 3 kids dads this imo influenced her towards making this decision as he wasn’t the father of the baby she named Lily

The NHS and provider of this service need to be taken to court this woman and others could have died

I don't believe in jailing women for it. Have a legal limit in place, punish clinicians if they can be proven to have broken that law, but the state should not try to dictate control of a woman's body. Women rarely do something like this unless they are desperate. There's a reason why there's increased "investigation" into the termination of pregnancies and it isn't to protect children. I don't believe the judge had no bias either, the reference to moving in with the ex whilst "carrying another man's child!" (shock horror!) is a giveaway. It's on the level of when judges instruct a jury in a grape case and mention that the victim had past sexual partners - it's obvious what reaction they want

The countries in the west with the harsher abortion laws or that try to roll back abortion rights (USA, Hungary, Poland etc.) are mostly those where there is most concern about non-white immigration and falling birthrates among the white population. The Tories' big vote winner is immigration and I do think the increase in abortion prosecutions is part of it. It's unlikely an abortion ban would ever get enough support to be enacted - and I don't think they want one - but discouraging abortion is a way of keeping birth rates up ensuring future voters, workers, and less need for immigrants

Statements of how many sexual partners in a grape case is not equivalent of saying that the mother lives with father of their 3 children and the baby isn’t his

If the baby was his would she have made the same decision? How is this not fair / right to include?

Why aren’t paediatrician and child psychologists speaking out about the fact that children aren’t sexual beings? Sexuality (as in BEING sexual) isn’t something that occurs until adolescence. Not to say kids can’t have innocent crushes or know that they are gay/straight/bi. But they don’t have impulses to ACT on those crushes until they are teenagers. Those hormones just aren’t being released while kids are still, well, kids. So there really is no need for them to explore their sexuality yet. I feel so sorry for kids with woke parents, dragging them along to these events or giving them these books. If I had been exposed to this kind of material as a child, it would have frightened me. I think it’s doing far more damage to expose children to adults behaving this way and I seriously doubt that it encourages children to ‘explore their sexuality’ in a safe way. Human beings have been figuring out their sexuality, preferences and ‘kinks’ since the dawn of time. We don’t suddenly need parades and shows to teach kids how to do it while they’re still children.
There is perhaps a confusion between what male and female hormones do to childrens bodies, to define a childs sexuality, and sexuality as an adult act between 2 consenting adults!

Such as the idea, that boys go through a testosterone boost as small children, aged between about 3-5, which is why small boys feel the need to run about so much and find it difficult to settle and concentrate, as their hormones are all over the place. And then they get another testosterone boost at puberty in their teens. Whereas girls get their hormone boost in their teens, when periods start.

So maybe it would be nice to have a level of awareness of body changes from childhood, but I agree children dont need to worry about specifics of sexuality, preferences and kinks until just before they reach an age of consent!

Contentious I know and it’s not a decision I would personally make, but I do believe a woman should always retain autonomy over her own body. I don‘t think women should be forced to give birth.

Plus, you see men go free following grape and sex abuse cases so this seems harsh to me, yes.
Completely agree with this. Sex offenders rarely get convicted, but we jail a woman for a desperate act.

She would have had to go through a horrifying ordeal, giving birth to a dead baby alone at home. Apparently she said she is traumatised by the memory of his/her face.

I’m not excusing what she did, but given the context of Covid, lack of GP access, her own denial when it came to dealing with the pregnancy sooner… I can’t see the point of sending her to prison.

Absolutely batshit. She needs to go back to school and sit an N5 in biology forthwith. Love Joanna Cherry’s expressions though!

I think there is a lot of bias around the issue and many people (whether for or against legal abortion) believe that most women who have abortions are irresponsible young girls or "selfish" childfree women who don't want to put their careers on hold to have a baby. And that creates unfair judgement. I saw a piece of research by the BPAS linked on Twitter earlier today, they had listed a series of cases they dealt with in one year involving women who wanted an abortion close to the end of the legal term. Most of them were in bad situations ie poverty, addiction, abuse, etc. One case listed was a teenage girl who was at serious risk of honour based violence but could not get seen within the limit so the best they could do was try to refer her to protective services. I don't necessarily think she would have received a two year sentence if she'd tried to end the pregnancy anyway but nevertheless, she could under current laws

I’ve seen people say “she knew what she was doing”, in other words, they have no sympathy for her at all.

Yes, she did know! Which says a lot about her state of mind, clearly. Some people think she’s a heartless killer who murdered her own baby, but I’d argue she must have been in an absolute desperate, awful, chaotic, mentally unwell situation to carry out what she did. Not even mentioning possible poverty, addiction and abuse like you said.

She had to give birth anyway, except she was giving birth to a baby she knowingly killed?
