I sent an email and got a reply from her assistant thanking for the support. I read she often reads her emails too.
I emailed her too and got a lovely reply from her team. I just wrote to thank her for using her position and voice to speak up on behalf of women who couldn't as they are fearful of being targeted and losing their jobs, what has the world come to when you cannot say something as simple and true as "I am concerned for my safety and this could impact my safety" without being called a hateful bigot.
I had this discussion with a family member about how things are going here in Ireland with self-i.d and all the potential harm it could cause, he replied that he could understand how I felt but people would think I was a hateful bigot that hated trans people, I told him he was clearly not hearing what I was saying if that's what he thought, I told him about the 3 TIM housed in the women's prison in Limerick (all convicted for sexually and physically assaulting women and children) about being able to go into any local government building and completing a form to now become your new gender, no questions asked, no medical intervention, no cross sex hormones, no surgery, no counseling needed, I asked him about the fact that a man could have convictions for sexually abusing children, transition in prison and be released with a new gender, new name and new identity and could pass a background check with these new details to go and volunteer with children, again no questions asked, he had no answers for any of it, just well you might "sound" hateful. I am perfectly happy "sounding" hateful if it wakes people up to what is happening, and I am so glad we have someone like JK Rowling to amplify our voices when she could just be silent for her own convenience.
