Isn't it funny how they think "misgendering" someone is *literal violence*, that saying men in frocks are still men is sufficient to necessitate threats and harassment against TERFs, but that not all adult/child sexual relationships are "problematic".

I wonder who benefits from all this? It's certainly not children or women.

Seen on twitter, archive of Breslow's blog
At several points in those blog entries he references a publication called ‘Destroyer’ magazine. This publication, featuring images of young boys, was produced by Karl Andersson. Karl Andersson is the bloke who was recently in the news for his PHD research which consisted of wanking over images of young boys in Japanese comic books. I get the uncomfortable feeling that there’s an awful lot of this kind of stuff going on in academia and that a lot of these people are connected to one another.

Wow. I am deeply shocked. Not.

Universities really need to take a long hard look at the people they are employing, and their pet topics.

Just a thought: is it all about the money now, even with PhD students? As long as a candidate can get funding, or is able to fund themselves, do they happily wave through the p*edophiles?

Perfectly put. People have drawn comparisons with Kid’s Company, which really was THE trendy children’s charity which lefty celebs loved to be associated with - just like Mermaids. Because, like you said, it was all about basking in the glow of being seen to be associated with this fabulous charity and their colourful CEO.

The worst thing KC did was piss all their money up the wall. It absolutely pales in comparison to what Mermaids are doing.

I’m not sure the Charity Commission are fit for purpose. It took them something like seven years to report on the collapse of KC, by which time the public had forgotten about them, and even then basically absolved them of any major wrongdoing. I dunno, I think handing out cash to inner city gang kids probably wasn’t the smartest policy, but what do I know?
I believe KC actually handed out cash to teens that was immediately spent on drugs.

For the avoidance of doubt (if there ever was any) and for those who understandably don't want to read all of that, one of the blog entries is Breslow talking about his own sexual attraction to children.

I don't expect Mermaids to have read every self-absorbed, depraved and asinine blog entry this man has ever created, but with the information freely and easily available re his academic life, he shouldn't have been within a million miles of a children's charity.

Haven’t spoken on this thread for a long time, had to have a break because it got a bit intense. Been lurking for a few days and this mermaids business is all over my Twitter, people in outrage that ‘transphobes’ have ‘harassed’ them to the point of temporarily closing. I can’t believe how many people are just blindly agreeing. When did men in skirts become the MOST vulnerable in society? Owen Jones harping on about how people who don’t accept their childrens lgbt identity are CHILD ABUSERS. But getting your child castrated isn’t no? This is lunacy. I’m so fed up of it. As for charlieissocoollike coming out as trans, ridiculous. If you search his name into Twitter the most common theme is ‘WIN FOR THE TRANS COMMUNITY, she is so beautiful, I’m so proud of them’ (have to get both she they pronouns in of course as she isn’t special enough) as if he’s done anything other than grow his hair out and cut a fringe. What is so admirable about living as a privileged man your whole life and suddenly deciding you’re a ‘she/they’. Try living as a young woman travelling alone at night on public transport and tell me about brave. Try being a 14 year old girl harassed by perverts while you’re walking back from school and tell me about brave. FED UP

Does anyone else feel uncomfortable/ incorrect (for lack of a better word) that GC folks are brushed “right” and TRAs “left”? I think there’s each on either side of the political spectrum.
Eg Penny Mourdany (Tory) is as much TRA as many leftists…

Rosie Duffield (Lab) is a GC feminist (possibly the last one in the 🌹 party,…)

I think this is why I feel increasingly politically homeless or at least party- less though for the time being I’m retaining 🌹 membership.

I’m a left leaning (not Leftist) increasingly GC but not in complete ageeement with the most vocal GCs like KJK. Im pro LGB rights and a “let people live their private lives as they wish and create their family units as they want as long as it’s legal and consenting”. My concern is how much conflation of Trans and LGB rights there are; and that kinks and increasing perversions are becoming mixed into the alphabet soup (e.g. MAPs, INCELS).

I jjst think there needs to be a more buanced; balanced; CRITICAL THINKING (apparently they don’t teach that at university anymore).

I went through a phase of being very religious and increasing dogmatic about right and wrong.

the religious overtones/cult mentality of the TRA movement (rather than generic rights of people who happen to be trans to live their lives ala old school transsexuals) is what worries me- kids repeating these sound but mantras and not thinking about all the grey in the middle of the rainbow , I think is how I’d put it.

also AGPs who think dressing up as a panto dame and saying lesbians are bigots can get j. The bleeping bin. Also anyone who puts kids on a medicalised pathway and ducks their hormone and endocrine system prior to chopping parts off. “Puberty blockers” are actually pubert erasures in a biological scientific sense. You can’t stop and restart puberty physically and emotionally you just get stunted adults.

I just wish there was more critical thinking and proper philosophy in the modern discourse I guess is where I am.

It’s lazy and reductive, but it’s the natural byproduct of labelling everyone who is GC as a fascist and a bigot.

But at the same time, ‘right wing’ tends to be used now as a catch-all for anyone doesn’t believe everything someone else think they should believe, and it’s predominantly used an insult rather than an actual reflection of any political ideology.

There is a definite lack of critical thinking, compounded by people parroting what they’ve seen on social media without analysing it at any level. I’d guess that a significant number of people complaining about ‘right-wing fascist bigots’ would struggle to define those terms. They just know that that’s what you call anyone who doesn’t agree with you. There’s a polar reduction to ‘left = good; right = bad’ that completely eradicates any potential for nuance.

He should have been easily found on a register, no searching bloody required.

I know ‘won’t somebody think of the children!’ Is a trope of pearl clutching - but never is it more apt than here
You know, I’ve started to believe that maybe pearls do need to be clutched sometimes.

Agreed. I mean, it's not even pearl clutching in this scenario. That only applies to people saying it for very minor things. I'm sure we all agree that's not the case here.

I've posted similar list of Mermaids supporters - this is another one (alphabetically, on Google Drive). The ideological reach is huge - 'Friends of the Lake District', Leathersellers, Sky Sport, BBC (Of course) and on and on. If anyone has any contacts/influence with any of these organisations, they should contact them or call them out

Of course they were! Anyone with a few functioning brain cells could predict that. And yet the entire organisation just… didn’t care?

KC had no financial management - they couldn't even use Excel.
Bloody hell.

This is why I think Mermaids might get away with it (screenshot from The Guardian)
