Why is it sad? It's a great thing. It shows that kids are finally being referred for the help that they need?!
the help that a good % of that 5500 need is a unbiased mental health professional talking to them to see what issues they have. What they don’t need is referred to a long waiting list to a service which has been shown simply reinforces the child’s view rather than questioning it. If we had an underweight teenage girl who said she was too fat we would not validate that view? Why then do we validate every teenage girl who says they are a boy especially if a large % are also autistic. That’s the current problem with Tavistock…..don’t take my word it’s in reports and in testimony from doctors that have resigned.

It is not at all irreversible as this article states. It pauses puberty and if they change their mind, can stop the blockers and puberty will resume. What about that is irreversible?

I actually commented on this thread thinking it was a balanced discussion. I read a bit further and then ‘screamed transphobia’ because it is.

that argument is like saying, how can you know you’re straight if you’ve never been with someone of the same sex? How can you know you’re female if you’ve never been a male?
I really strongly recommend you look on twitter or r/detrans because I thought the same as you and was absolutely shocked to read the first hand accounts from so many people who have suffered health problems as a result of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones.

Re sexuality - you're basically asking "how can a woman know they're attracted to women if they're not attracted to men" and I'm not sure that's what you were going for as it makes no sense.

Also - think I speak for everyone here when I say a balanced discussion would be welcomed, but every few weeks someone pops up, screams "Transphobes!!! Terfs!!! " and then vanishes without addressing any of the valid questions/responses put to them.

Ahh International Women's Day. What fuckery will today bring?!

I work in a traditionally male-dominated industry but there are a lot more women in the industry now as opposed to 10 years ago. Good progress! One moderately well-known workplace posted a video for IWD, offering free coaching and advice sessions for any woman, provided by the women who work there - and that also includes trans women and "anyone who identifies as a woman" 🙃🙃

I could scream. This isn't about trans women or anyone who "identifies" as a woman. I've been very fortunate to have worked with some amazing women who have worked their arses off, dealing with the day-to-day shit that we all know so well and just got stuff done. How many trans women have supported and helped me during my career? Zero. And I don't expect them to.

And of course, WOMEN are yet again being expected to pick up the slack. It's not enough to give up our time to provide free advice and mentoring, it's also on us to make sure trans women are involved because god forbid they should be expected to figure things out by themselves, as we have all done for years. When are trans women going to support women when it comes to progressing with their careers?

The NHS shouldn’t even pay for stuff like PBs or any of the surgery. If people want that they should pay for it themselves. The NHS is meant to save lives and fix bodies not mutilate them.

Emma Watson’s facial expressions when she was saying she was ‘here for all the witches’ made me cringe sooo hard, she had such a typical mean girl attitude. She’s still trying to score points against the author of a franchise she last acted in 11 years ago - move on Emma. Or is it because the only thing she’s been known for since is singing badly in Beauty and the Beast?

Imagine a world where a man telling women they're doing feminism wrong if they exclude men is considered progressive.

Lumping men in with working class women and women of colour shows just how racist and classist they are too.
This is disgusting. No one ever excludes women of colour from being women, or poor women or women of any occupation. Never. For trans activists to make this false equivalency is evil.
White feminists include women of colour as women because it’s automatic we know they are, they may not have always shown the intersection between race and sex when dealing with issues, but they have never denied that women are women.

I have just read an article in the Liverpool Echo about a young woman finally being diagnosed with endometriosis after many years . A spokesman from the endometriosis group explained it as a problem suffered by people assigned female at birth ! I was horrified at this and posted a comment on the comments page stating my disgust and was pleased to find several others had as well

Lots of things here.

I understand what's being asked of the male populace in Ukraine is terrifying. It's a bit like the Helm's Deep scene in LOTR, in order to have a chance at survival people with no training, who never imagined shooting anyone, now are having to perform some form of civilian defense.

I also understand that Putin has no love of LGB people and probably the same opinion on gender non-conformity or people who transition. But this article is not about how gay men feel unsafe in the warzone due to their gayness making them a target, or what their life might be trapped in a homophobic Russian-ruled Ukraine.

My first thought when I saw this headline was the evil guy from Titanic shouting 'I have a child.' I want to be sympathetic to the plight of men in Ukraine and what they are facing, I also want to point out that many women have stayed to either help fight or to help in other ways. I just wish this person came from the standpoint of 'I'm male, I can't leave and I'm very, very scared'.
If this person had more than 2 functional brain cells he would now finally realise that he is not a woman, because this is what being unable to 'identify' out of sex based oppression looks like and what women face every day globally. I am sympathetic to men being forced to stay, I am not sympathetic to trans women complaining that they didn't get to leave though.

I saw an article a while back about a new grocery store that was being run by a TIM. Much was made about providing a safe space to shop - I was rather pleased to see a gay man comment on it saying that he'd never felt scared to go into a supermarket. It just demonstrates the irrational paranoia these people are operating under.

Won't someone think of the AGP TIMs on International Women's Day, please. A lifetime of privilege, transitioning at age 45 with thinning hair and a massive forehead to boot. Please, everyone #BeKind. They've had such a hard time of it. So stunning and brave to put on a dress and call themselves Susan!

Here’s yet another scandal. It should be higher up the gender critical agenda this weekend, but there have been so many concurrent shitstorms, it’s hard to keep up.

A GOSH conference for doctors was cancelled because people lobbied against the likes of Helen Joyce who were due to speak. Trainee child psychologists are not being allowed to hear the sensible side of the story.

There is no place for “no debate” when it comes to evidence based medicine FFS.

According to these narcissists there is not a single situation in which trans people don't have it worse.

As if an invading army gives a flying fuck about your precious, narcissistic gender identity.
Always centering themselves in every possible situation. I’m pretty sure when missiles are launched they aren’t aiming specifically for ‘queer’ people. And no I don’t want to look at the list of organisations that helps queer people, I will support organisations that support ALL fucking people because we are all human and as you say @nothanksbabes noone cares about their special queerness in this life or death situation 😠

I am increasingly of the opinion that no one is trans. It just doesn't exist. No one is born in the wrong body. How can someone feel like a different sex when they have no idea how it feels to be that sex? Instead, they are either:

A confused teenager
Gay or lesbian
on the ASD spectrum
Gender non conforming

or have nefarious reasons, such as:

AGP
Lying to get access to vulnerable women
Lying to gain access to women's sports/prisons

I amazed how quickly we have gone from seeing the idea of someone being trans as really marginal in society to it being celebrated.

Was just looking for clothing for my 9-year-old daughter and in checking the reviews on a pair of leggings, came across this one.

These are thick, but not hot. Very well made. They are not sheer or clingy. Perfect for a transgender girl. We love them!

They just can't not mention it at every possible opportunity.

I very briefly did online sex work (text chat stuff, no videos or anything) and it was soul destroying.

I didn't think it would be easy, but I'm a fairly sexually motivated person so I thought it would be a bit of extra cash. It was hard, the men were (unsurprisingly) fucking awful, but awful in a grotty, lowest common denominator sort of way. I was privileged in that I wasn't doing it out of absolute necessity. I think you need to be really desensitised to think any of it is normal or desirable tbh.
