I do think Louis still wants this, he has no problems roughing it and I always felt his sense of adventure was genuine and he did lots of interesting trips before meeting Raya but Raya had a full on meltdown the last time she visited their land and cried on camera how she's no longer sure that it's what she wants. They'll probably have to compromise with building a holiday home there that they stay at during their kids' school breaks and renting it out to their viewers the rest of the time to make money.

Is anyone watching their clickbaity vlogmas and can summarize what's behind all the dramatic titles?
I haven’t watched them but they stink of ‘help we need money.’ One title said something about burning lunch. Boo hoo!
I've watched a few and not much happens in any of them, they are very clickbaity.

Day 2 Surprise Announcement - Louis launched hoodies and tops that he has personally bleached.
Day 6 We Failed - they needed a chill out day, they're finding it hard going out everyday with a baby and daily vloging.
Day 8 Disagreeing about Christmas - they have different ideas about Christmas trees, Raya likes traditional and tasteful and Louis likes bright and colourful. They each decorate their own tree.
Day 9 Are we leaving Brighton - they talk about where they want to live and they don't really have an answer, there's no conclusion. They talk about wanting to live in Costa Rica and maybe Brighton or somewhere else in the UK.
Day 11 Juicy Q&A - They want to have 2 or 3 kids but Raya wants her body to take a break and they don’t think they could handle another kid just yet so no more babies for a little while. Louis finds it annoying that Raya worries too much, she's trying to work on that. Raya thinks Louis is a bit too easy going sometimes. Raya talks about her journey with holistic health.
Day 12 We’re leaving again - they went to stay in a treehouse, Raya wants them to spend more time in nature.
Day 15 - Raya finally broke - Pretty sure she just got a cold or something.

I watched a few, the later ones have a lot of Raya’s family there and a few of Louis’s who are outnumbered! Raya’s gran came over to do the cooking for Xmas, doesn’t look like Raya or Louis cooked. Their house looks massive with all their guests sat round and reminds me of those days in their big house in LA. Raya’s family don’t appear to speak English but I thought they had been in the US for some years.
Little Neo is incredibly cute and has a “cut the BS” look on his face sometimes. It’s nice to see Raya looking a bit less stressed. I agree @cheesemonger they probably need cash coming in. There aren’t too many ads in the Vlogmas content, they are improving from that perspective. I’ll forgive them quite a bit because he tells a good story and knows how to set up shots, some YouTubers I watch are shocking!

That's revolting. Two people who go on 20 luxury vacations a year, who rent a mansion at Brighton beach and just bought a Tesla want their viewers to pay for their house that they'll eventually make money from by renting it out for most of the year.

And nothing about them has ever been eco-friendly. Their individual carbon footprint is that of a small town. They exclusively stay at 5 star resorts that require huge amounts of energy. They've never grown their own food. They currently have around 10 vehicles rusting away all over the world. The bus they drove throughout North and South America is the least eco-friendly vehicle imaginable.
I’d love to see some calculations of the actual carbon footprint of their neo-colonial immigrant lifestyle…all those Alegria residents are seriously minted, flying in and out, importing food etc. Raya didn’t even know whether mangos were in season….that would be the first thing any fruit-grower or eco-liver would know.
You just know that while Raya is swanning around with her camera there, selling herself as an earth goddess, that a poor local is doing all the physical labor for minimum wage in the background. None of these people have ever gotten their hands dirty and planted something themselves.
I can’t remember which but one of the recent videos has Louis and Raya swanning off for their evening meal while “the guy cleans our car…or his wife does”. Clearly a top priority in a jungle, god forbid your hire car gets dusty. I hope the locals are doing well out of these white saviours. And it doesn’t look like Alegria can provide much produce anyway, those leaf-shaped ornamental gardens won‘t feed many. Louis is always up that shop that looks like a classic holiday destination supermarket of imports.

at least he makes a good video. You could write a thesis on the neo-colonial dynamic of these ecovillages, just based on what L&R share. The latest thing is they are fundraising for the local school, which according to Raya is the only place the kids get a meal (don’t you pay their parents high enough wages to feed their kids at home?) as well as for their own house. You can have my views for your subs but that is my only contribution.From the Alegria Village FAQ - all the planet-saving eco-living doesn’t of course include inconveniencing yourself by not taking flights between your multiple homes.

Their design plans look awful. The bus will just rust and fall apart. It's a tropical climate but they don't seem to build taking that into account. High humidity all year long and possible floodings during the rainy season. I really feel like they didn't make proper research before buying the plot. Life in Costa Rica is expensive - food, car, electricity are on par with Western countries in term of costs. But they don't even have the savings to build their house, which would be less expensive than average costs in Western countries but still consequent especially as it needs to be earthquake resistant and compatible to the climate in Costa Rica to not fall apart a few years later. Their plans seem quite hazardous as they didn't arrive with good savings to enable them to install themselves properly + they still have costs to pay in the UK.
As for the theft incident, Costa Rica is safer than Mexico or many central american countries but poverty and inequality are still a real issue -that has been exacerbated with the pandemic and then the global inflation. They will always have to take petty crime risks into account while living/owning a house in Costa Rica. But they seem to be in their little bubble, disengaged with the locals (do they really speak spanish??) and I wouldn't be surprised they won't make it in the long term. Not suprising though, they won't be the first to believe that moving to a dreamy tropical country will be just sunsets and sparkles, as it is as a vacation spot without understanding the challenges they will face to make it happen.

I’ve been watching Kristen and Siwa too, they live next door to L&R and have done a few videos recently. They don’t make such a good video but give more away! They also speak Spanish which L&R don’t. They get most of their fruit and veg from the corner shop, Alegria produce isn’t much. Although I suppose they will all get more fruit trees etc over time, on the individual plots. Even as the resident Youtuber Louis will be under pressure to make money, and now he’s not even the only one.The Alegria moneybags won’t want to be filmed all the time, and also it could be a security risk.
They are aping Kristen and Siwa with the bus in the house, but K&S have a custom built airstream, not a manky old bus! L&R seem to be doing their plans on a shoestring. Let’s hope the vegan lobby keep paying for Raya’s “cookery” which is mostly greige Slop with boiled broccoli.

If they're pretending to be short on money to squeeze every penny out of their gullible followers, then why are they still renting a 3 story house at Brighton beach instead of a sensible flat which is more than enough for two adults and a baby who are constantly traveling and want to spend half the year in Costa Rica? Why not sell the double-decker bus with the hot tub that they're parking in some field? Or all the other vehicles that Louis is hoarding. Raya can't even drive.
I don't see them learning Spanish ever. They specifically bought a plot at Alegria because it's a white colonizer community where locals are just servers that they won't acknowledge beyond "Hola" and "gracias". They also already said they're leaving during rainy season every year, so they'll never be more than tourists and once the child starts school, it'll be a vacation home because Raya will want him to go to fancy private schools in the UK like she did.
I just watched a few of the jungle diaries and I just get the vibe that Raya just isn’t cut out for this life. I feel like having a baby has maybe opened her eyes to it all and opened her eyes to the way Louis doesn’t behave like a grown man. She seems irritated by him a lot.

They are staying in other people’s homes, while their lot has an old school bus and a shipping container. She’s on her own with the baby all night while he edits and all day while he either sleeps after editing or is down on the lot strimming and being misunderstood by workmen. I think she expected to be straight into a lovely home, but I can’t see them ever getting there. Louis isn’t practical enough to do loads of stuff himself and they don’t have the money to get it built. It will take ages for the Patreon cash to trickle in.
I get the feeling she’s being paid to promote veganism and has to show herself either eating vegan food or cooking. I felt sorry for her making those parcels that didn’t work. I can only cook well enough to feed the family, I have no taste or techniques, but I dont have to film it. Surely you would make them again till they did work and show that?
