I enjoy all the F1 content online and that includes teasing drivers/teams etc. The actual hate thing I do not understand. It has been draining recently just reading things and I have had to make deliberate attempts to step back as I consume F1 content for fun.

Not to harp on about various podcasts I've listened to, but in the Bottas one he talked about how close he was to retiring after the 2018 season as he was so mentally burned out & just couldn't take it any more. He had made the decision to retire, but hadn't informed anyone & ended up having a mental shift over the winter break where he felt like he could do it all again.

Exactly. As a Merc fan, obviously Verstappen is not the favourite in our household after Abu Dhabi ‘21, but I can still appreciate and applaud his efforts this season and a win of his first () WDC. I can’t imagine expending such anger and hatred on something which is, ultimately, a sport of which the outcome doesn’t affect our lives. It’s supposed to be fun and entertaining.

Having watched the Dutch GP and seeing/hearing the crowds attitude there, I would feel very intimidated to go there as a Merc fan next year.

same i don’t hate any of the drivers really (not the current ones anyway ) - none of them have done anything worthy of it. i’m glad that max is obviously able to rise above those boos but what has he actually done that’s so bad? likewise, yes george can be a bit head-boy sometimes but come on.

i find that twitter in particular seems to cast lewis and daniel as the Main Characters, and lewis in particular seems to have a whole army that will say awful stuff under the guise of standing up for him. the reaction george got last week was just so ott. some of the stuff they say about max crosses the line too. i know they’re only a small proportion of his fans though.

social media just gives people too much access to celebrities. i saw people laughing about getting blocked by george for tweeting “funny” queen memes to him and calling him a tory twat for his queen tweet - and why wouldn’t he block you? he’s not obliged to put up with that because he’s “famous”.

Yes, Lewis is the golden boy for fans even when he’s consistently underperforming this year, yet can do no wrong. George stole his podium etc etc.

Yikes I know Fernando doesn't seem to be retiring anytime soon, but moving to AM?! They will suck all life out of him. Surely he doesn't even need the money at this point.

And yet another shitshow from Ferrari... Binotto has lost the plot, saying the car wasn't performing well? This man refuses to take responsibility for anything and instead the drivers are the ones saying they need to speak to the team to figure out what happened. It's clear as day what went wrong! RB starting at P10/11 was a gift and Ferarri needed to capitalise on it to make up for France. I don't think Charles especially has any confidence in the team and I can see Merc finishing second at this rate...

Exactly, and then people saying Yuki was shifty in his post-race interviews. The poor guy is speaking a second language while trying to explain what happened, of course he seems unsure.

This is the most chaotic grid line-up of the season so far! I hope the race delivers a surprise result tomorrow - if any track does it it’ll be Monza!

I mean it does sound exciting on paper but Max is gonna lead by lap 2 and Charles is gonna be fucked by Ferrari by lap 3 and it’ll all be the same as always isn’t it

i did too this is the main reason why i had to put the widget on my lock screen - i can never keep full track of the calendar because i want a race every weekend!

After watching races as somewhat neutral and not really rooting for any particular driver or team, I somehow because invested in Pierre Gasly this season. When I check on results/qualifying now as I often can't watch, I have automatically start from the bottom of the leader board and work my way up instead of starting from P1 down.

We all become invested in Pierre Gasly. He's a special Frenchman we all love and wish the best for.

Personally also want to eat his french baguette.

I think they are very young and still early in their respective careers. When they are fighting for titles in a few years time, it will be interesting to see if they can remain friends. I don’t think they can. Could be wrong.

I find it super interesting that in the case of Charles and Max, the rivalry was more intense as children when things weren’t as important as this title fight, for example. Obviously with age there comes a certain maturity as well, but it’s very fascinating. They fought for a F1 WDC and seemed very friendly but their karting days were filled with inchidentes

i’m hoping he’s just resting - it would have taken so much out of him and he realistically would have only left intensive care on sunday and maybe not left hospital until monday. he’s probably exhausted and williams maybe don’t want to keep giving updates when there’s nothing new to say. i’ll only feel reassured when i see him on insta though!

Mick and Lance went to his birthday dinner last year. Mick also took Esteban to some horse/ranch thing a while ago. Lance was talking to Pierre at the last race (or maybe race before). Maybe he's brokering the peace deal for the potential Alpine teammates.

i love the idea of lance being the go-between though. like “c’mon pierre, you were friends with him before!”

As entertaining as it would be, I'm not convinced that he was writing that blog. At least, not in the early days, as he would have been 8/9 years old at the time. It was probably written by one of his brothers or his mother which still feeds into everything that has been said about him as the youngest child. I feel like there's an article somewhere where his mother mentions Helmut Marko banning her from the paddock as he felt like Pierre needed to cut the umbilical cord.

He did mention in a French interview that he did earlier this year how he and Anthoine understood the pressure each other faced as their families had made so many sacrifices for them and were in ways in the cornerstones of their families because everyone was so invested in them.
