Ooo no I’ve kept reading, not come across anything conspiracist (unless you count a lot of descriptions of her as a neoliberalist? I’m too thick to connect those dots myself and work out what’s being referred to) but there is a pretty glaring lack of addressing sociological factors in the whole “you can heal yourself” diatribe. Which is very problematic on its own.

Florence is back online. She's shared 3 fairly innocuous insta stories - all posts made by other people. One is signal boosting radamridwam trying to get their account back, one is a list of activists who help with navigating intimacy, and one is about coming out culture/ heteronormativity.

Tbh I think good for her. I don't think she actually did anything wrong with either her book or her statement and I don't think she deserves to be booted off the platform by the mob. Sure, she's quite annoying and up herself, but basically harmless. Let her and her fans have fun online.

RE Diving Bell, if I were them I'd be livid at how Chidera demanded they handle their own finances. I think they were well within their rights to basically say "and if we don't, then what?". Chidera got in over her head wading in and making demands and not being prepared to back them up and leverage her own power. It basically shows that Chidera didn't believe her demands (of DB making a BLM landing page on their site and donating £100/m to Black Pride) were really worth putting her own neck on the line for, she didn't really want to go as far as threatening to leave or go on strike.

It smacks of virtue signalling. I'm a trade unionist and one of the first things you have to understand when you're organising and trying to achieve an outcome from your employer is the bargaining power you have, i.e. what things can you leverage. That could be your labour (i.e. going on strike/ refusing to do any more work for the company til your demands are met), or your public endorsement of the company, etc. What assets do you have that this company relies on you for, that you can therefore hold over their heads as an ultimatum? To make such significant demands without being prepared to negotiate suggests massive naïvety and immaturity on Chidera's part. I can't believe she's still banging on about all this tbh.

You’ve articulated my thoughts perfectly - I can’t understand how she’s demanding a BLM landing page in lieu of doing her actual job she’s paid to do, I would have nipped that in the bud as well.

Yes I honestly think Chidera is going too far!! To me she sounds anti-white... I’m a huge advocate for Black Lives Matter and fighting against the social injustice we see, but calling FG a rapist??! Saying all white people are racist?!

I know this subject is SO sensitive but I think the powers at play between the books are not black woman VS white woman.

FGs book is correctly referenced and also includes a lot of unique first hand experiences from FG, there are many softwares to detect plagiarism and the two texts are similar but different enough.

I think race comes into it only because it is easier to do the above to marginalised people. And it hurts more when someone does this to you when they have things easier in life generally. Think high school bully stealing your best friend lol.

Again, I don't love either of them but I really dislike Florence. Her style of feminism is very performative and about her. I think the Slumflower too is not the best role model but I think she had every right to speak up about the way she felt, given the way Diving Bell were treating her - again absolutely appalling and it is the main reason I am SO disappointed by other influencers under them - if not wanting to take sides for Florence or Chidera I feel they should all be standing against Diving Bell.

yeah I totally get what you’re saying re: the race aspect making it easier to plagiarise or copy or whatever we wanna call it, from marginalised people. My issue is less so what CE herself is saying as such and more the kind of DMs she is getting from white women who I feel are trying to over compensate for white guilt and using this as an opportunity to prove they’re not racist, eg the example attached.

absolutely agree about diving bell, I think looking at the bigger picture of this situation, regardless of whether FG copied her or not, the actions of diving bell have been so shitty. And definitely agree with what you’re saying about other influencers on their books - I can understand them not wanting to publicly take sides in the copying claim (I’m sure they know lots that we don’t about both sides) but it is really disappointing that they haven’t said anything about the way Diving Bell has treated/spoken to Slumflower. I know I said it in my last post but that email she shared last night from that man was actually so horrible.

Now that it's become abundantly clear that Chidera doesn't have any sort of intellectual property case against Florence... I wonder if Florence or Diving Bell will instigate any legal action against Chidera (or, come to think of it, loudbossygross)? Both FG and DB have suffered considerable detriment to their reputations (and damages to their bottom lines, I should imagine) as a result of the false allegations of plagiarism. It could be quite an interesting defamation claim and there's an absolute truckload of evidence.

What do people reckon are the chances that either FG or DB would sue Chidera for libel? I'm 50/50, on the one hand I feel like they would avoid it and just wait for the whole thing to die down so as not to be seen as wielding the law against a Black woman. But also I feel like Diving Bell especially would LOVE to have a judgment proving themselves to be in the right lol. Personally I think a libel case would have a far greater chance of success than an intellectual property claim.

Can they really sue for libel? Where did CE lie/make slanderous claims?

Not much else to say! She’s a friend of a friend and this was a couple of years ago. She was nice enough but I remember just being struck by how…not forthcoming she was, as everyone else got rounds in. She also brought up “when she was cancelled” within about an hour of meeting her.

Apparently the podcast guest - the holistic psychologist - (never heard of them before) is a conspiracy theorist with ties to the extreme right and Qanon, posted 2 days ago but not a word from Florence/team about the situation while she is posting as normal... it's all very strange!

Also, if anyone knows of a thread for the holistic psychologist please link me! I couldnt find one but I'm a bit rubbish with the search on here

Ooooh I’ve just read her book and I did enjoy it, however I did a quick twitter search today and came across some tea. Some people she went to school with revealing things that she definitely doesn’t preach. Could be bollocks, who knows, but I thoroughly enjoyed her book and get she may not be up to everyone’s taste.

What type of stuff ? I believe we come from the same home town but she's 21 or something isn't she ?
