Omg she did it with Lucy and Yak ‘my emotional Labour’ and had lucy and Chris completely squirming on a video... it was awful to watch. Also she says ‘super stinky’ way too much 😂😂
Literally no one asks Aja to wade into this issues, she decides to insert herself and then cry about the eMOtiOnAL LAbOuR of having to talk about it! then she has the nerve to demand people pay her for this "work".

I really liked her Instagram to begin with but really gone off her since attempting to read her book - it’s very much “intro to feminism” interspersed with incorrectly (and harmfully!) using the terms abuse and trauma, as well as that “dump him” mantra.

I just felt like I would have found it revolutionary reading at 14 years old, but now I see through it as regurgitation of 2012 tumblr, some useful content but ultimately feel like it’s a vanity project rather than creating real social change. Florence repeatedly “acknowledges” her privilege but as just another pretty, thin, cis, white woman with a large platform - what is she actually doing to promote anyone’s struggle but her own?She posted BLM content while it was trendy but nowadays it’s all just self obsessed self promotion
thank you! This is it. She keeps saying how she’s aware of her privilege but it just feels like she’s just saying it for the sake of it. Her content is probably good in theory when it comes to feminism but actually so shit in practise but she knows it sells.

Finally read a sample of her book and was interested in buying but decided to listen to her on a few podcasts first. Does anyone else think she sounds exactly like gracefit? Not just the actual voice but the way she talks and the words she uses. Tbh even a lot of the sentences as a whole. Sounded exactly like grace giving an interview about her career. Where everything is already rehearsed in her head (cos she’s done so many interviews) and constantly interrupts/nods in agreement. Sounds bad but it’s put me off a bit. Assumed she was posh and privileged but now I just think of grace.
It was the lalalaletmeexplain podcast btw. Never listened to Layla before so I dunno her either but was more interested in hearing what she had to say. Felt a bit weird with 21 yo Florence butting in all the time with her experience. Seemed kind of full of herself and like she knows everything.
Would anyone say it’s still worth the read? Or got any better recommendations.

This! I listened to a podcast with her as a guest and she admits to the toxic group of girls she was friends with. She recognised that it was toxic and horrible, and she challenges it now. I haven't read the book and being honest, I hadn't heard of her until this week. I am a few years older and fuck me I went through horrendous plutonic relationships with other girls/women and I also acted in a way that was expressed from internal misogyny and I hold myself accountable now. Growing up, I felt like I was in competition with other girls and the older I've gotten, the more I see how damaging it was to myself, and others. I would love the awareness that women in their early 20's seem to have now when I was that age! I consider myself someone who is constantly trying to learn.
Was this the episode of adulting she was on? I really enjoyed it and I can definitely relate to being within a group of girls considered “popular” but constantly being the odd one out and doing anything you can to please them, including singling out others to take the heat off yourself. I think she has (hopefully) genuinely acknowledged and apologised for her mistakes in the past and is a different person now, as she is still v young and I think most people change a massive amount between their teens and twenties when you realise your toxic behaviours. Saying that, even if she is a fake, the message she puts out is still amazing and defo will be very helpful to young girls struggling to find their voice/realise that others’ actions are wrong!

I'm sorry but what the fuck is up with this mockney accent. God she sounds like every other posh home counties darling who moved to London and tried to rough up their accent a bit to hide their privilege. This is so embarrassing. She knows we can all see her earlier vids and tell that's not here real voice, right?! 🙃🙃

So Diving Bell released a statement and it seems that they have receipts that Chidera was supported and her concerns where listened to. They also have receipts that she ended the contract on a positive note.

This isn’t a team Florence/Team Chidera thing for me - it’s just seems like facts are coming to light that prove that nothing was “copied” from her even if she does feel that way. It seems they were both in publication at the same time.
They also confirmed that they have nothing to do with the promotion or marketing of the books - so if someone has been trying to manipulate the SEO so that WDOYP shows up in Chidera's Google results, it wasn't Diving Bell. Maybe it's because Chidera's name is literally on the front cover of WDOYP lmao.

I did find some parts of her book extremely useful and some parts really opened my eyes. I wish the book had existed when I was in a toxic relationship 3 years ago - I would’ve realised my worth and packed my bags up and dumped him sooner.
Absolutely same here. I definitely think it appeals to those of us who’ve been through a toxic relationship. I kind of felt like someone was telling me “it’s not your fault” and all of the things you wish the people around you would understand.

Is there a thread for Chidera? I have seen loads of people saying she has stole ideas and would like the ☕ But don’t want to hijack this Florence thread
Most of the stuff she comes out with was copied from online sex workers, black women for the most part. She’s been called out on it over a long period of time but she just ignores it. She’s fallen out with so many people because according to her she’s right and everyone else is wrong *all the time* and she’s ridiculously rude about it.

There should be a thread about her tbh 😂

Florence has responded.
I've seen. I like how she has done it as a story so nobody can publicly ask her questions - so she can just ignore them. She has also limited comments on her most recent post.

I think I see the other arguments which are saying the slumflower also copied people. However, this does seem a bit too close to comfort - same agency, friends, similar directions - this is more than influence, there is definitely copying involved. Nobody is innocent but something just doesn't sit right with me about this.

At the end of the day it is true that new products are always influenced by others. They are an accumulation of past works. BUT there is a line to be drawn. And the whole style of direction of the slumflower's book is just too similar.

Also, wtf with their agency - they seem to have dropped the slumflower! I don't agree with that at all.

I’ve been reading on Twitter she’s blocking people for calling her comparison to a rapist unfair. People that have followed her for years and bought her books have been blocked all because of that.

Why is no one blaming the publishing industry that wants to repurpose the same things over and over because they know it will sell over one woman who probably got swept up in the excitement of being a published author.
