I've only watched some of the lockdown vlogs and I don't really remember much of the house from back when I used to watch more often...but is this the same estate that Fleur and Mike lived on at the very beginning of her YT career? I remember that they used to live in that small-ish house together when she started and that it belonged to Mike's family.
No it’s not the same one, they’ve moved a few times. When I started watching her vlogs they lived in another still big house that yes was owned by his family I think but had the clock wall? and then secretly they moved to this second mansion.

The clock wall house wasn't owned by Mike's family. That was the house they bought to live in before their wedding, and then the sudden move was to the new house because of 'a change in Mike's family circumstances' which is when they moved to the hall his parent's own.

In the beginning they lived in a cottage on the estate they live at now.
Then they moved to the house with the clock wall, and now they are living in the big Hall of which the cottage was an annex.

I thought I read somewhere that the change was that Mike’s family wanted that smaller clock wall house and that’s why they shuffled around? The clock wall house was still huge though I think like 10 rooms or something.

Nope, their first cottage they lived in when she started YouTube was owned by Mike's family and the current hall is owned by them. The house in the middle was one Fleur and Mike bought themselves.

It was a lovely house. So much more homely than their current abode.

I'm not sure she wanted to move. They were only partway through decorating and I don't think the proportions of the hall were really to Fleur's taste, like the kitchen being small due to the era and River's nursery being an odd shape with the sink in the wardrobe.

I don't think she wanted to either. I think she saw their old house as their 'forever home' and this new one isn't one she likes as much. It also feels like this house isn't as much theirs, like the rooms don't seem to have as much personality as their old home.

Didn't she say the old house was her dream home and she would drive past it all the time hoping it would go on the market? I am not sure if the other one was closer to her parent's too?

The move was really odd. She had been waiting for her curtains forever, and she finally got them, and then they suddenly moved? When they talked about the move they did not sound happy at all? They knew the Hall needed a lot of work doing to it as well, they've done the kitchen, several bathrooms, floors.

The cottage is on the grounds of the Hall they now live in.

There was definitely something up with the move. An effort to dodge inheritance tax or something similar. I know she was living in a multi million pound property and then moved into an even bigger hall but I’d be sad if I had to move from a house that I felt was my forever family home.

It's the way they talked about it, there was no excitement or joy there. It was so odd, and the timing was weird just after she got really excited about finally getting the curtains she'd been waiting for for months.
I too think it had something to do with inheritance tax.

The hall has grown on me. I did love their old house though! She surely must only be showing a fraction of the hall?

imagine moving into that hall & not being excited about it. I adore my average house which I guess it maybe 1/10 the size of the hall. Although I would t want to clean or heat it!

It's probably different if it's not really your choice (that's how it came across), it's your family home, and you know it needs a lot of work..? I don't know...
At least Mike has a pizza oven again. That was so odd too, he had just got one for his birthday from his parents in the previous house, and just before weather was nice enough to actually start to use it a lot, they moved. There were lots of little things that made it come across as if it was not their choice to move.

When did they move into the Hall? Could it be tied into Mike becoming CEO of the family company in Jan 2019?

Probably to avoid some form of inheritance tax. If you pass on a property and live for another 7 years (or longer), you don't have to pay inheritance tax on the property when you pass. If Mike moves into the hall and his parents live for 7 years or more, the hall doesn't count as part of their estate any more and they don't have to pay inheritance tax on it.

It's odd they "made" Mike move in though as surely the inheritance will be split between him and his siblings. Although I think one sister lived there for a while.
