This new generation coming up is obsessed with sexuality and gender. There is a blurring between public and private, and I think it has to do with the rise of capitalism. I read Debord’s “Society of the Spectacle” a few years ago, and it spoke about this sort of hyper-individualism being a byproduct of consumerism.

Okay, I do think that there is something to be said for queer people finding the appropriate clothes in certain contexts and it can be a bit difficult depending on how you present— for example, years and years ago a friend of mine who is a lesbian planned to wear a nice suit as a wedding guest and got a lot of pushback from her mother and other relatives begging her to wear a dress or something less ‘noticeable’. (I mean, wtf). Similarly, in the workspace if you dress a bit off what is ‘expected’ it can be a lot. Another friend of mine complained that when she wore more masculine outfits in the office she’d get the requisite office busy bodies stopping by like “whyyyy are you wearing thaaaaaaat lol!” or other weird questions. It can be easy for some of us to assume that there are no weird judgements to overcome when there still are.

All that said, Eve is just wearing a sweater vest and dress pants and she clearly presents as a feminine woman. I mean, I get it, but it does make me lol a bit. Look, in the first two years after coming out, especially if you come out a bit later in life, you tend to be a bit weird and obsessed with your new identity and trying out these new ways of being as though they are costumes. I expect she will calm down after a while and just settle back into herself but…… we’ll see.
Well to be honest that issue does not specifically refer to queer women as such but women in general. What I mean is there is a stereotype that queer women are more "manly" - which is wrong cause it's not true at all. Other thing is that to me the stereotypes regarding clothes should be erased and everyone should be able to wear what they want without being labeled as XYZ. Thankfully it is becoming normalised when a woman can wear a tailored suit and look very feminine (if that's what she wants) or more unisex because it becomes more and more popular. However in my opinion Eve pushes back these stereotypes how her being queer / lesbian automatically ties with quirky clothing and more "specific" style and she highlights it at every occasion. Same with specific gestures, way of talking and so on. Like come on.

Besides, workplace is, as the name suggests, the place of work. It's great that more and more places are working on being inclusive but in my opinion there is no need to showcase that you're a queer person in your workplace cause tbh no one cares. People come there to work and make money. Sure if you establish some closer relationships with some of your coworkers they may be more interested and open to talk your personal life. But in general, the fact that Eve is a lesbian does not automatically equal quirky clothes and no one really has to know. It's your private, sexual life after all. I am not gonna dress "quirky" at my office (I work in law too) to showcase that I'm a lesbian ffs. Just dress in accordance with the dress code - which Eve fails cause going to the office with your belly out (which she did) is super lame, especially when you work with clients. That being said, barely any offices have gender stereotyped dress code nowadays either way which is amazing - it would be a different case if women were only allowed to wear dresses / skirts but we've ended that years ago thankfully.

Why shouldn’t Eve express herself a queer though? If it really isn’t a big deal then why shouldn’t she portray that in what she wheres. For myself I know clothes are a huge part of my identity and coming out not only to other but figuring out what I like and yes I do feel like that’s linked to my sexuality as a lesbian/ queer woman. I relate to Eve a lot I’ve had a huge change in how I dress in the last few months. And like Eve I have to wear a “uniform” / am expected to dress a certain way in my job and that makes me feel so uncomfortable sometimes. So anything I can do to put my own style into it I try to.
Presenting as queer is important to some and I don’t think anyone should critique anyone for wanting to do that. Being queer and visible is so important, I’m in my early 20’s and I don’t feel like I had many people at all to look up to or to listen talk about being gay so if someone like Eve does as a public figure then it’s going to help someone else.

Sorry not aimed directly at you but think it needs to be said after catching up on their forum after what’s been said lately.
Not trying to criticise you and it may sound harsh but you were aware what your work place's expectations are after all. I also don't feel comfortable being dressed up in general - I'd rather be working in a sweatshirt and leggings - but I am expected to look neutral and professional. Depends what kind of job you do but at jobs in which you represent your company - f.ex. do client meetings etc. - you represent not yourself but your company. No one is gonna care about your sexuality there and no one should be expected to. The fact that I love idk Metallica or that I'm a Buddhist doesn't mean I should include it everywhere to make sure other people see it.

Generally the thing is some people try to make everything about themselves - and with Eve it fucking shows.

To me, it’s not such a bad thing that she’s pretty much dropped Youtube because her work demands more time. If anything, it shows that working hard throughout her degree got her somewhere. I much prefer her to other studytubers whose only personality trait is studying 14 hours a day (although I do miss her content)
Oh it's definitely a respectable choice, but then she should just be honest with her audience. She keeps teasing videos and pulls the "I work a full-time job" card when people ask about them. Elena Handtrack is also studying law and she already said that she won't upload on youtube anymore when she's done with university. I think Eve is a bit afraid of fully committing to the law career yet, so she keeps the youtube option open, and right now uses it as a money grab even tho her job already pays a lot. Also idk if anyone's seen that, but she keeps talking about becoming a comedian on twitter? Lol.

Yeah, you don't get jobs like that at theatres one year post university without connections of some sort. Family friends, classmates parents, someone you met while doing an internship (which in turn you got thanks to connections). The arts is rife with this sort of thing.

She's probably also bright and driven and all that. But who you know helps immeasurably.

This would be okay on a private insta. But wtf?! Like I said how the hell does she get away with posting thirst traps on her PUBLIC instagram and work at one of the most renowned law firms in england?!?!!

Has her GF a new hairstyle?
Think she has, looks a lot shorter. Or her hair could've been swept to the side I don't know.

Same here. I love her old videos, I rewatch her study vlogs all the time cause they have such a good vibe (for lack of a better word), but ever since she finished the LPC I find myself clicking off most of her videos after a minute. The fake deep chats ('taking myself on a date') and not really that informed law videos (why does she keep making videos on US law - surely she didn't even study that at uni and is not working with it either?) just don't do it for me. I feel like she adopted sort of an influencer personality while living in London, which is a shame because she seemed so down to earth in her Bristol videos.

On another note, I can't get over how she made coffee her entire personality when the entire time she was drinking INSTANT coffee??? 😭

Lmao is eve now trying to claim that she’s gen z? Although her “coffee company” is literally called millennial coffee club? I can’t with this woman anymore
I mean she IS gen z (both by birthyear and habitus), I never understood why she called her merch company Millennial Coffee Club.

Writing you're going to 'disrupt' things like you're the main character in a coming of age film is realllly cringe worthy lmao.

Thank you for this post ❤ I personally struggled with this so much, barely being able to graduate uni, even though I was top student in high school and got admitted to top uni, suddenly it hit me like a bus. I seriously believed I just got lazy or dumb out of sudden and didn’t seek help for so long because of people like Eve talking dumb shit everywhere. I get so angry whenever I see bullshit like that and people not treating it seriously. Same with depression which is used on social media nearly all the time whenever you feel a bit down or sad.
Seriously Eve is becoming more and more out of touch and dumb unfortunately. She’s so fucking annoying recent times I stopped following her altogether. And I liked her so much when I first discovered her few years ago. Such a waste and disappointment.
I was in the exact same situation and didn't see a therapist or ask anyone for help until it was almost too late. The image of AD(H)D that is conveyed on social media was one of the main reasons for my hesitation. I figuered I could get my problems under control with fancy learning techniques. And my social problems? Well, who doesn't have "anxiety" these days, according to social media? I had no idea until I got diagnosed... It makes me sad and angry that people trivialize mental illnesses, so that ultimately those who suffer from them have to explain and justify themselves over and over again. I wish you all the best in life ❤

She ought to show some humility and respect to the team she’ll be working in/under. Otherwise she’s going to get people’s backs up.

I'm sure it's well-researched, but I'd be more interested if she was... a criminal lawyer. But my impression was there wasn't enough money in it at the time for her to pursue it. Idk, these videos feel icky to me, monestising someone's death. I hate true crime if it doesn't serve any wider purpose

Eve just likes the label of tech as she thinks she’s the only one with the capability to change anything as someone who identities as queer and she thinks she can “disrupt” what they do, she’s sorely mistaken
She's not like the other girls

Like what? Can you fill me? I don't have time to watch her vids rn 🤧
someone in the comments linked it to "doing tiktok dance while captions pop up describing Ugandan genocide", which gives a pretty accurate portrayal of what she's doing. quirky smiles, upbeat music, random advert thrown in, and a topic which doesn't work with that.

If shes doing things to annoy her employer should she not consider how over saturated the law industry is and how replaceable she is for them? She might be good at her job but shes not exactly special in that aspect. Linklaters could throw a stone and find a dozen more of her

Out of curiosity what is the standard path of someone that gets a training contract in law? Is it you qualify and just stay at the firm?

If you train in accounting at the big 4, the point about someone leaving within 4 months of qualifying is not out of the ordinary, in fact more leave in the first year of qualifying than stay.
People tend to move around a lot in law. At MC the attrition rates are fairly poor. Most people between 1 to 3PQE will have left to go in-house, to a US firm or to a smaller firm- or leave the profession all together. What is uncommon is to leave the job after 3 months, particularly if you have made a career of romanticising the profession on YouTube.

ok um I find it weird how eve's GF must have blocked me on instagram. because her account still exists but I can't find it on my ig. maybe I watched her story a couple of times when it was mentioned on here but what did I do? perhaps I accidentally liked one of her posts without realising and she found it weird?
her full name and parts of her house were published on here. they surely know about this thread. eve's gf never signed up to be a public figure. honestly, I would block lurkers too if I was her!
