I’m in Cornwall and I’m really fed up of not being able to leave the house Monday-Wednesday. I couldn’t use the scheme even if I wanted to. Seen lots of reports of abuse, restaurants pulling out because they can’t handle the pressure, pictures of cafes empty on Thursdays and Fridays when they were full before the scheme started. Maybe it’s been helpful for some cities but it wasn’t needed here, the extra tourist footfall was making it hard to get into any pubs/restaurants even in July.

I hope it isn’t extended but I’m fortunate that my job is secure so my spending habits haven’t changed.

I know we’re all gonna pay for it for years to come so I may as well use it now and enjoy it before spending the next 30 years paying it back, I’ll be paying either way 😂

Went for a meal in our local curry house last night and not kidding, it was full of the dross of the town 🙈 don’t get me wrong we’re in no way ‘better than others’ but you’re talking the type that take drugs, steal, spend more time down the nick than in their own homes… made me realise how I won’t be so bothered when it ends.

A lot of places do things like “half price Monday” “kids eat for £1 Tuesday” etc so i can totally see how some places will want to carry on their own version of the scheme whilst still making a profit even without gov assistance.

So far we’ve been to McDonald’s. As a family we have sophisticated tastes....

Exactly my thoughts! Looks like it’s working, 30% increase in footfall in retail on the back of this 👍

I used to work in the industry myself, I'm on maternity leave at the moment but God im glad I'm not working in a pub or restaurant now. My partner is manager but has been jumping in the kitchen, their place has been low on staff and people are constantly at the bar ordering, food is constantly been ran and tables aren't getting wiped. Customers are getting a cob on, he came in last night fuming because someone threw a plate at the kitchen door because a table hadn't been wiped quick enough. Its disgusting. The abuse staff get is ridiculous! When i was 21 and worked in a pub someone told me i was 'only a waitress' if someone spoke to me then on a busy Sunday I feel awful for how some of the staff must be getting spoken to with this scheme.
Someone threw a plate at the kitchen door? I hope they were escorted off the premises and charged for damage! What shocking behaviour.

People so often look down on those in service roles, and yet it's so bloody tough.

Ive not been once.
Me neither, I can't be bothered, tbh. 🙄 All I see is how much people are stuffing in their faces for like a tenner, it's like a free-for-all! 😑 I'd prefer getting the occasional takeaway and enjoying it whilst feeling relaxed in my home without having to sanitize and feel on edge.

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve used this now 🙈

I think it’s been fantastic and has really given people some confidence back 😀

Yeah I dont know the ins and outs like but I imagine he probably had a bit to drink too. But having that to do with in a busy as it is pub, must be hard 😔 The weather has been nice and its the summer holidays so I imagine everywhere probably would have been quite busy anyway

I'd just like to know why they haven't made this offer valid for takeaway/Drive thru. Surely they should be encouraging that more. I personally don't feel comfortable eating in anywhere yet so won't be able to take advantage of the offer.

i do take my food home but I pay full price and don’t abuse the deal for the sake of a few quid.
I do it 🤷🏽‍♀️ There’s a McDonald’s next to where I work so I take it back to my desk and eat it.

Not really abusing a deal when it’s there and encouraged to be used.

Agree above, less likely to catch covid and no need for staff to clean up after you.

Reading this morning about a small business owner doing takeaway and delivery food, can't do EOTHO because she doesn't have any seating, saying her takings are right down this month because everyone's been ignoring her and going to EOTHO places, including chains like Nandos, McDonalfs etc, instead of her independent small business.

There's an awful lot of people that this EOTHO deal is quite bad for, when you start to look beyond the "must get me some of that £10 off chicken wings in Nandos" for yourself.

:(

Reports today of lots of places pulling out of the scheme due to overworked and abused staff.

Can't say I'm surprised after seeing some of the people lining outside 😐
I work in hospitality and I can 100% understand why. We have a restaurant where I work, the phones have been ringing non-stop and the amount of abuse we have received from people who can’t get in because we’re fully booked is ridiculous. I get that it’s probably frustrating when you ring so many places and they’re all fully booked, however that’s not the fault of the staff. We’re just trying to do our jobs amidst the chaos of EOTHO.

To be honest this scheme just seems to have benefited a small group of people. I've not been a fan of it at all.

Love this scheme! Went out for dinner last night to our local Bistro . Had a great meal for a really good price. Also had Breakfast out this morning.
I’ve got every Tuesday evening in August booked for different places to eat.😀

Why didn't they offer you the discount?
They said you had to spend at least £20 and my order only came to £18ish.

They were wrong but weren't having any of it so I had to ask to see the manager 😆 this is helping my assertiveness.

I don't get why 3 places now can't understand the basic scheme that helps them out.

Honestly I work in a restaurant and while it is a good thing for businesses and the economy it’s not so great for public health, it’s encouraging a lot of groups of people. I was out for a drink last weekend luckily we sat outside but I went in at one point to use the bathroom and honestly the inside was packed and no social distancing whatsoever it was absolutely rammed and they just kept letting people in. Everywhere we passed was jam packed
