Thanks all! The vet has recommended we switch to Royal Canin Hypoallergenic food to see if that helps. She's also going to prescribe him some steroid ear drops once the infection has cleared.

I was the same, never used puppy pads just used to take him outside really regular and praise him like crazy and he was fully toilet trained in a few days, yes we had the odd accident but not many. We had a dog flap installed so he just used to retake himself off out for the toilet whenever he needed.People make it more difficult than it needs to be imo.
Puppy pads are the work of the devil.I will die on this hill. Yes dog toilet indoors but only on these mats. There are people I know whos dogs are still toileting occasionally indoors years down the line and its baffling to me.

My sis in law used puppy pads and didn't even bother trying to toilet train her dog! I looked after him for a week when he was about 6 months old and he just followed my dog and learnt his routine and he was toilet trained within the week I had him. Guess what? Sister in law was furious with me because it meant she had to get up in a morning to let him out as he would no longer go on the puppy pads
.We no longer have our dog he died a few weeks back and honestly life is so hard without him and I feel so empty and sad but god he was the most amazing dog and I feel blessed to have had him in my life for those precious years.
I am so sorry to hear this. Its my absolute worst nightmare. My eldest dog is 5 and was my first ever dog and he is my whole world. Aww thank you lovely. I still cant believe it, it happened so fast those last couple of days and we knew we had to make the toughest but kindest decision for him.I am so sorry to hear this. I have cried buckets since and life without him feels very empty at the moment but I am so glad he was mine and we had 11 brilliant years together.
He wasn't the perfect dog by any means but he was MY perfect dog. I will never have another as I wouldn't even want to try to fill the gap he has left.
my dog is a British bulldog, he lives up to the breed traits of stubbornness. He sleeps on the sofas, climbs on them, climbs ON you when you sit on them, he stands or sits on me like I enjoy being crushed, the amount of bruises I have on my legs from him lol I don't think he understands that he's not a little Jack Russell he's 5 stone of heaviness and slobber, he's allowed upstairs but not in the bedrooms because for some reason when he gets in to my mums room he'll either rooster his leg up her bed or go and wee on her pillows. On my bed he doesn't do it but I can't take the risk. Every where else he's allowed. He's so comical but such a little sod too.
My dog is 5 stone too. She loves to sit on us. I think she thinks she’s a lap dog.

He slept in my room with me in a large open pen, because we wanted him to know that he wasn't alone and someone is around him.. he only cried at me the second night but I just turned away and ignored him.. But I had about a week of disturbed sleep because every time he would stop snoring I would wake up and check to make sure he was still breathing lol.
He'll be 2 next month so now he sleeps downstairs, he makes it very clear when HE wants to go to bed, and we are no longer welcome lol. When we leave the house (we work full time) he will sleep all day or just sit and watch out the front window.. he has never destroyed the house or made mess when we are not there.. not showed any signs of separation anxiety at all which is what we were worried about. He's so laid back and like your girl, loves cuddles too.. they really are the best

She’d been fine in the crate in the kitchen during the day so next night we left her in the kitchen and she slept soundly. She still sleeps in her crate but with the door open and takes herself off to bed in the evening. She has a sofa in the kitchen too and sometimes will stretch out on it.
As soon as I open the kitchen door though, first thing, she races upstairs to get into bed with my husband or if he’s already up, one of the kids.

My Boy is allergic to grain so is on a grain free diet. Dont give anything with potatoes in as can cause yeasty ears. Chicken can cause allergic reactions in many dogs.
We have laminate flooring but used puppy pads all over the place and he soon only went on those.
Hi everyone. I see this thread is dead but wondered of anyone had experienced anything similar. Our girl (floppy eared), has had recurring ear infections for most of her life. This time it's yeasty and she's being swabbed on Monday. In the meantime our vet told us to switch to a food with hydrolysed protein, (two were suggested and we picked one from that), which she started yesterday. Fortunately she loves it. After 3 months we will challenge her diet with vet guidance. She's started on Wells Z/D. After 2 days I've already noticed a difference in her stools - less odour, less flatulence and no mucus.
What are the most common protein allergies in your experience? It costs a bomb and her insurance has just gone up to £90 p/m. Ugh. I'll do anything for her of course.

Sounds just like my boy. We have managed to keep on top of his ear infections with weekly ear cleaning and steroids (not ideal, but it’s helping, which is the main thing!!)
We also changed his food to royal canin hypoallergenic but then he was getting skin allergies/infection, so we’ve now swapped it for Purina HA. So fingers crossed!
Without an allergy test it’s just trial and error. I think they are super expensive.
Chicken is a major cause of allergy. Following an allergy test My Lad has grain free food and an air purifier to help with dust allergies.

My girl was on grain-free food for 5 years but it had no effect on her, positive or negative.
Last week she had a Cytopoint injection. The vet's view was that this was better than steroids for her, (she was on them for 3 months to open her ear due to an abscess & prior to cleaning under anaesthetic), because there are no side effects with the injection.
Sometimes I wish the girl could talk! Best wishes with your dogs!

everyone I'm a regular tattle reader and have contributed to other threads but came across this one the other night and am enjoying reading about all your lovely fur babies. I have a yorkie and she is my absolute life she comes everywhere with me except to the supermarket hospital or doctors! Even on holiday!
I just wanted to warn you all to look out for grass seeds this summer because this afternoon while she was on my lap having cuddles I felt something in her cheek and as it was hard I thought it was a sting and when I touched it she yelped! Hubby sterilised some tweezers and carefully pulled it out and was so quick she didn't feel it we've bathed it with antiseptic and am keeping an eye out for infection but it is very clean and not red at all.
She's just had a knee operation and is waiting to get the other knee done so I have painkillers here for when I need them so I gave her half and will give other half before bed tonight, I knew she wasn't herself but couldn't think what was wrong and assumed it was knee pain!! She's comfortable now and sleeping beside me.

I'm giving mine a comb with a flea comb when we get home as that seems to get them out. It's a nightmare as he's long haired, so very easily missed. Doesn't help that the council are leaving all the verges wild, so even pavement walking seems to pick them up at the moment.

I just put throws over the sofa which I was regularly to stop pawprints getting on the actual sofa. If you try and move him off the sofa when he's all comfy he'll make a groaning sound at you as if to say "piss off will ya, I'm comfy!"

We have a 3yr old rescue pup. Got her 2 years ago - she arrived from Zante (Greece) literally about 6 weeks before the 1st lock down. Served well, as I was sick leave following surgery at the time of her arrival then furlough so had plenty of time to settle her in. We'd been to Zante on holiday previously and the stray dog population devastated me, so we went to a Greek/Brit charity to adopt her (such as the dogs trust wouldn't consider us as we worked and had a child
)
She's as dippy as can be, but adorable. She has 2 of those pupnaps beds (each with a fleece on), one upstairs and one in our bedroom. But she still sneaks on our bed occasionally (if we can't find her, chances are she's on our pillows, sleeping!). I don't mind so much. I guess I do it so she forgets being unwanted in Greece (when she was found, she was house trained and there was evidence of a collar so she was dumped). She's a spoilt pooch (and she knows it!)
