I would be wary of stating too openly how little you work, I know people who have done this and just had their hours cut
And I’ve also worked (and resented) people who brag about having a part time job but being paid for a full time job. Damn that’s a hit to the face

I actually asked once, because I’d enquired about the salary of another role in the company and it got back to my manager immediately, who called me to a meeting to basically say you’re not going anywhere. I said I’m not planning to leave but I need more to do because I’m getting bored. She discussed things I could potentially do but never actioned them, she’s been saying since I started that there’s more tasks coming but I’m yet to see them 😂 She has now taken on 3 more staff members so there’s even less to do 😂 all of us sit playing games and watching tv all day because there’s not enough work but for some reason I think the manager likes the grandeur of having a lot of staff working for them and doing the bare minimum as a result. An absolute nightmare. The good benefits are basically holiday buying so I can get 30 days off a year, and they do a good pension scheme
But if you want to progress and take on more why don’t you keep requesting the work? She may feel uncomfortable passing on tasks until she knows they will be done correctly, so help and support her, that’s your job if she’s your manager surely? To help and support?

I posted a few days ago about how I was due to get promoted this year then new management came along and said they haven't heard anything about this. Supposedly, it's dependent on whether they get a promotional pool. I've been doing my work and the work of someone who has been sick for a while now, so basically two people's work on my own and been bending over and backwards for 2.5 years now, yet they have the audacity to dance around the promotion question when raised.

Today, I came across both an internal and an external job posting - they are hiring someone new at the level I was supposed to get promoted to this year. So, they're capable of bringing a new hire at this level, but they can't promote me?

Absolute hate them and their hypocrisy. They're willing to give this title to a brand new person who still has to be trained. Smh.

Hum. I don't know. Perhaps.

A lot of places will pay new hires more than they pay existing employees (more particularly because they will include inflation based increases in the newer compensation packages). I've seen this on countless occasions.

I handed my notice in today and my boss asked the reason for me leaving so I told him it’s the little workload I have.. he then proceeded to tell me that the reason for that is because he heard talks of me wanting to start a family and he basically didn’t want to progress my role on the terms I would be going on maternity leave. At no point did I say to his face that I was going to start a family right this minute. I don’t know if this is just a bull reason as to why I was never busy or trying to justify the little workload

Make sure you apply for that role!

@jemma2223 not sure how this works in the UK, but I'd report them. Even if there's no point since you're leaving, that's discrimination.

10 more work days for me left until my last day. Getting excited, there's still a lot to wrap up and I'm sad that I won't see my team much anymore, but I'm soooo ready to start my new job in September!

How would I go about this even though I’m leaving? Would there be any point?
Umm if it’s within 3 months of issue you can. You can always phone ACAS for their advice!

I’m not trained in employment law but just going off what you’ve said.
For example: If you’ve been there 2 years+ you could go after your employer for constructive dismissal due to them making the role untenable by taking opportunities off you due to discriminating against you.
It’s just up to you whether it’s worth it, ET is a big process to go through! ACAS are always there for advice!

Agree with the other poster - I’m not an expert but if he’s reduced your workload to the point you feel you have to resign you might be able to claim constructive dismissal. The fact he’s brought potential pregnancy into it makes it discrimination too I think? So you might be able to get some money out of them. You can call ACAS and they will give you free advice as to what to do.

It’s up to you of course and deffo understandable if you just want to leave and move on with your life, but if he’s made this assumption about you he’ll do it to other women too!

Thanks for all your advice guys! I’ll ring ACAS at some point and see what they say. I’ve worked for the company for nearly a year and just feel like I’ve wasted my time because there’s been some comments here and there about ‘when I have kids’ etc. This is why women don’t get as many opportunities as men!

It’s short sightedness on their part though, not everyone that plans to have a family gets lucky, and if they do it might not happen quickly so they’ve lost a really good asset in their presuming a woman will get pregnant quickly.

Exactly! Which makes me think that they’ve used it as an excuse on their behalf so it makes them feel better that somebody has left due to them not having enough work to keep someone full time in that position. Makes me glad I’ve seen the light and got out of there

I'm on my last eight days! I went to the office yesterday to retrieve a few personal items and collect some stuff I'll need to ship back to the head office and felt really nostalgic, we did some cool stuff there. Yet I'm beyond ready to start something new, I feel that my temper for stupid requests is even shorter than it used to be, it's probably good that I'm on my way out.

I work with the nicest people, everyone is genuinely lovely and the culture is fantastic. I feel really lucky to be somewhere like that and don't want to leave!
But the job itself.. and even the industry.. really bores me 😩

I left my previous job of 8 years to join another organisation 4 months ago. Regretting the decision now.

I came in as part of a huge restructure so the few remaining staff are bitter about it as they are in roles they don't want. The culture isn't empowering and a lot of blame gets shot around, especially via email. My workload is massive but I have zero motivation to work hard as the culture is so toxic and negative regardless of how hard anyone tries 😔

I think I'm going to stick it out for another year, try to get pregnant and then have a year off mat leave. Then will find another role after that 🤷‍♀️
