Doctor Who was never right for Disney.

His statement seems a bit ' off'. Do you think BBC pulled the plug on Bad Wolf / RTD? Or was it more mutual

I think the BBC have seen that it's all been a bit of a mess under RTD, and have said thank you bye.

The show doesn't strictly need to have a co production partner, BBC Studios can go it alone under tender for the BBC, it just might have to be on a smaller budget, which would be no bad thing. Because it focuses the mind and makes the story king as opposed to VFX.

Can't get over RTD's "goodbye" message, what a deeply unpleasant and I will suggest emotionally damaged individual. There is something really wrong there.

Poor Doctor Who. It has wobbled a lot over the years no matter who the showrunner, no era has been perfect. I am just so sad the programme is bowing out like this and not even the showrunner can afford it one last act of grace and dignity by at least taking some pride in his own personal public conduct.

I think the show will be back in some form, probably sooner than it should. I would rest it for at least ten years. Though I think whatever happens it is far too damaged to ever recover.

The moment the hero was lectured about pronouns in what was supposed to be a celebration of 60 years of a "brand" so iconic it had achieved institution status in the eyes of the public, it was over.

He can call people bigots as much as he likes but you can't use such a beloved IP to fixate on a singular rather niche (in the grand scheme of things) message and except everyone to connect with it.

I'm just grateful we have decades of canon before the social engineering took over completely. I'll always have Doctor Who to watch when I feel like it, and I can pretend the worst bits just never happened.

Russell T Davies does come over as a deeply unpleasant bully boy type and I believe Christopher Eccleston when he said that it was a very toxic work environment, which is why he quit after one series. A great shame because Christopher was really good and could have been iconic in the role. I still prefer him to David Tennant because I disliked the doctor getting overly emotional and all the assistants being in love with him.

I love Eccleston's performances so much. There was so much sincerity there and I never quite got that from David Tennant, which is weird bc he grew up being such a huge fan of the show. I came to really loathe the Tenth Doctor though, he was really rather a bully. Every incarnation of the Doctor has that hole side to them at times but Ten was very Mean Girls to me, especially with Rose. I never got the shipping hype there, to me they were too much like a naughty brother and sister, little kids in adult bodies. I was Rose and Nine all the way, loved their fairy tale type dynamic. I did like Ten with Donna because there was never going to be any notion of romance and she could keep him in line. In the 60th specials Donna was one of the best things about them even with the bonkers writing.

If/when the show returns, it needs to be stripped right back to basics. They tried to do this with Jodie's first season as Thirteen but it didn't really work for some reason. Now though the show is such a nightmare of a mess pressing the reset button seems like the only real option. Just simple little stories about an eccentric man in a blue box. And make companions have variety again, the audience can follow along without the dreaded surrogate stand in type character. I hate those so much.

I agree with the sentiments about Christopher Eccleston's Doctor, he helped revive the show and made it unmissable. I hope he dosen't return as the Doctor, and ruin his legacy though, like David Tennant and Catherine Tate did for the 60th anniversary. I agree that the show need to be put on ice for a considerable length of time

That the BBC were very busy with the trump stuff (being sued) and that they had lost their head of creative entertainment and were waiting on a new on to make a decision on what to do with the show.


That there was two options: rest the show, or put the show back out for tender again so another production company could pick it up (since the Disney thing failed).

Instead of resting, the new woman who is the creative ent head has said 'this show is one of the signature shows of the BBC' and has decided to put it out to tender again immediately.

Richard said he had been contacting all around to find out what was going on with DW and got this tidbit.

I think there's something of an answer as to what's happened to RTD 2.0...

He did an interview where he said he felt a "monstrous anger" when his husband died.

I do feel very sorry for anyone who goes through something like that but some people never recover from such trauma, I suspect RTD has not healed much.
