Given tonight's episode was the most expensive episode ever. It was very much style over substance. The vfx was very impressive, but he storyline and plot was paper thin. Relying on someone conveniently being there to save the day because they know what to do.
The Doctor doing what he did with the glove felt completely out of character and was not something I believe the doctor would do. Trying to give Ncuti's Doctor these darker moments just isn't working because it isn't believable, unlike previous Doctors who have been able to pull off the darker stuff.
It was a beautiful homage to Eurovision, but execution of the actual storyline was lacking, needed more of the backstory for the villains and motivations etc. Freddie Fox was a delightful villain, very sexy with it. I wouldn't have minded playing with his horns.
Overall it was a poor episode of Doctor Who, but a decent episode of TV with a big special effects budget.
I really hope Disney do end their deal with Doctor Who. All this extra money has been wasted on VFX, and actually the BBC being forced to produce the show on a tighter budget with less effects and more focus on storylines and characters (and bringing Daleks, Cybermen, Sontaran etc costumes out of storage) will potentially allow the show to go back to basics rather than trying to push the ambition stakes especially visually because of the budget
The reveal of who Mrs Flood is was unsurprising given the rumours have been swirling for the last 18months about the return of The Ranj. It was kind of inevitable. The bigeneration thing annoys me. But whatever.
The other unexpected appearance of Susan was nice, I hope that isn't all we see of her, and she turns up in the finale rather than just being a bit of fan service given Carole Ann Ford a very brief and pointless cameo if that is all it is.
Oh and for ducks sake, can they retcon out mavity. It's really naff and annoying. So many people won't remember that brief Isaac Newton bit and it's just daft and cringe. Just go back to saying gravity.

With the Rani being the first villain I can remember from classic Who I bloody love her. Saying that, I am disappointed that there are no Kate O'Mara esq shoulder pads. It's a bit like the Master not having a beard, just doesn't feel right.

I enjoyed the premise of the show with appearances from Rylan and Graham although the storyline was very simple and the doctor torturing the villain with a glove was certainly out of character. Why can't they get it right with Ncuti? I'm not overjoyed by Mrs Flood being the Rani either and am not expecting a great finale (although at least Jonah Hauer King is back next week).
Jonah Hauer King has been the best villain for some time. He is just deliciously evil and dickish. He can do those smirks and such things that make you want to him so much.
Also he's really pretty!
Catching up with The Story and the Engine, too slow and confusing for my liking. It did prompt a discussion about the politics of black hair with my young son that was interesting. I know what they were getting at when the Doctor said he felt more accepted is Lagos than anywhere else but it very much ignored that same sex relationships are still illegal in Nigeria....

A renegade timelord, last played by Kate O'Mara back in the 80s. So when the Doctor says "I am the last of the Time Lords" he should really add "not including The Master and The Rani"
Unlike the Master she is amoral and is a scientist. She believes the ends justify the means.
She turned someone into a tree, and told the Doctor that the person should be grateful as he would live much longer than if he was a human.

He's leaving anyway I think, been rumoured for months he's leaving. Apparently he's got a string of Hollywood jobs lined up for him waiting post-Who so there was no way he was gonna stay more than a couple of series.
What was the Eurovision thing? Do we know why he didn't end up doing it?
He was meant to be announcing the UK votes but it is believed that he dropped out when Israel qualified for the final - but he hasn't confirmed that he dropped out for that reason.
I don't believe that he was sacked for it - lots of people have been saying for ages that he was going after this series - way before this happened - I even read that they had filmed his regeneration
Yeah I saw this, they did some reshoots not long ago (obviously the series was filmed absolutely ages ago now) so I think this decision has been made for a while. I also think it was his decision
I feel like I hardly know him as the Doctor. 8 episodes a year is not long enough to really dig into his character, he still has lots of classic monsters he hasn't met, he hasn't really got much of a supporting cast of reoccurring characters outside of unit and the Sundays ( I like it when characters get to come back for a another episode or more, people like Craig, Madam Vastra, Churchill etc....).
He should not have been cast if he could not commit to the role.
I suppose some of the trouble with short seasons and long gaps is it is hard for the actors to wait around for episodes to be filmed when they have film offers coming in

I would be surprised if he has gone or is going this series. When Christopher Eccleston left, it was well known that David Tennant was taking over, and no one has been suggested so far, but I was wrong about the Rani, so who knows?
I think there was lots of questions about the future of Doctor Who, depending on whether Disney end their deal with the show and then whether the BBC would keep it going or rest the show.
It sounds like the Disney deal will end, but the BBC have committed to continuing the show, but likely not before 2027 airing. Meaning that any filmed regeneration of Ncuti can be merged in future with new Doctor appearing. But without having had to commit to a new actor now if they didn't know the show was to continue or not.
I really liked Ncuti in Sex Education, and thought he was a break out star
But Dr Who and The Importance of Being Ernest has made me reconsider. He's very charismatic and charming, but I'm beginning to think his range is limited to variation on himself.

Completely agree with ntcuti , I don’t feel I’m impressed by his acting. As to me it feels like Eric in someways is the doctor. The constant ‘babes’ is so forced.
I say this as a massive fan of Doctor who and ncuti. I just haven’t clicked with his Doctor, I feel Jodie’s Doctor had more range. I hope with more time it comes and this second season is better but I still don’t love his Doctor
