Do you think about death?

I get scared when I think about what death actually is… eternal emptiness. 😬 if I think about it too much I feel overwhelmed and panicky. I can’t wrap my head around being gone FOREVER. Just nothing… for eternity.

Yes! I worry that I’ll die young and leave my son behind for absolutely no reason. As far as I’m aware I’m healthy and have never had major health issues luckily.
Then I worry about my dad, I’ve known loads of people to die of a heart attack and he just doesn’t look after himself. Always drinking and I fear he’ll just have a heart attack and die.
Then and this is really irrational, I worry about my son. He’s 5 and sometimes I go to bed and get a fear that something will happen to him for no reason and I can’t settle and stop thinking about it. I’ve always been scared of death though. As a kid I’d get up in the night and tell my mum I don’t wanna die.

I'm not worried about dying myself. However, I think about death a lot more since my Dad died, as up until that point I'd only experienced the death of family I didn't see that often. Not that it made their deaths any less sad, but I found it a lot easier to move on. I was very close to my Dad so I missed him a lot more.

I know they say that robins are a sign a lost loved one is nearby and I feel like I've seen a lot more robins since my Dad passed away. Just the other day I was out on a lovely winter walk and was thinking about my Dad and suddenly a robin appeared on a nearby hedge and looked at me. I know it's just a coincidence but it's a nice thought. :)

Absolutely petrified. It’s interesting to see others thoughts that they are fearful of family dying and having to live without them. This makes me feel so incredibly selfish that it’s the fear of myself dying and ceasing to exist that scares me the most. Like a lot of others have said, it’s not the act of dying or the pain it’s the overwhelming thought that there is just eternal “nothingness”. I have recently started reading a book to help with this as I’ve realised I cannot spend the rest of my life fearing the only one true certainty there is. It’s called “Staring at the sun” by Irvin.D.Yalom, if anyone else is interested I have found it helpful so far.

I’ve always been worried about grandparents and parents dying. I remember as a kid praying that all my grandparents live until they were 99 as I thought that was a reasonable age to ask God for 🙈. Now all my grandparents have passed away I absolutely dread my parents dying. I don’t know what I’ll do without them. The pain of loosing them will be too much.
I’ve always wondered about death and never got my head round the fact you’re dead for eternity. Again as a child I asked my mum when we die are we born as babies again because I couldn’t understand the point of why we should die and that be it.
Now I’m a mother I do think of my own death and health a bit more because I’d be terrified of leaving my baby behind.

I know death is inevitable but it really does scare me.

I sometimes think about dying and anxious it could be a slow and painful one. I have dealt with death through my life when I was younger, I lost my mum to cancer when I was 9 and my auntie who was a family friend when I was 12. I saw how the cancer affected them and how much pain they were in and it scared me. I worry for my other family members I have often said to myself I could never go to another funeral. I mean I know death happens but it’s the thought of it can happen at anytime and the not knowing.

It's quite a scary thought. It's a bit like when I think about the beginning of the universe, I just think "but what was here before then?" There always has to be a 'before'!

Good Grogu avatar by the way!

yes! It’s the same when I think about the universe it just is all really mind blowing, fascinating, incredible and scary at the same time.

aww thanks! I was literally obsessed with the little guy and his cuteness. But I was also really broody and was trying for a baby around the same time so I think that had a part to play in it 😂😂

In many ways I don’t think we have the capacity to understand these things. I feel really envious (maybe not the right word) of people with faith in their life. Sometimes I wonder if it’s this fear of death that lives within many of us, that was the birth of religion so to speak. People can’t bare not knowing…
I’m not an atheist, I’m open minded, but sometimes I wish I had absolute faith in a god, so I didn’t have to feel so frightened by death.

I hate the finality of it. It’s done, end, dusted. That’s hard to deal with — I’m currently grieving the death of someone I adored so I think my perception of it is impacted by that. I don’t fear death for myself, but cannot bear the thought of any of my loved ones dying. It’s so heavy.

I lost my mum 2 days ago and everything is terrifying me at the moment. I’ve had to ask my brother and sister in law to help sort the funeral because I can’t cope with everything. I’m coping with day to day life because I have too but at the moment I just feel lost and so overwhelmed. I’m living life in slow motion and so scared that when reality kicks in then it’s gonna hit like a boomerang. I just miss my mum and feel like I’ve lost my best bed friend 💔

I have been thinking about death and dying more since my last post here. I did mention I would like a long life. But thinking now I believe quality of life is more important than a long life. I do not want to spend my old age in very poor health and just waiting to die because of pains and not being able to do things for myself.

We all die but do not want it to happen for a long while and best of all to happen in a painless fashion and when we are ready.

I would like to die peacefully in my sleep. But I do not know if I would want my future family to be there and watch me die.

It will be weird to take my last look at the world before my eyes close for good and I take my last breath. I wonder what my last thought will be?

My husband died 3 yrs ago at 59 I am still devastated everyday I think of him and although the crying has stopped the grief is like a huge pain in me. But I can honestly say his death was beautiful ! We knew he was dying because he had cancer so for three weeks I’d get up wash him make his breakfast take my dog out then come home and lie in bed with him he would be reading or listen to the radio and I’d be on my iPad. We spent the 3 weeks just talking about everything his songs for his funeral his life out life everything we would cry laugh hug it was so lovely. The day he died I knew this was it because he had gone into a like coma state I rung the family our kids his sister my sister and nephew and we surrounded him in our bedroom and I laid next him with his head in my arms I kissed a million times spoke to him we were chatting or quietly ppl were having a tear drinking tea and then at 4.45 he looked straight at me and turned back and died it was such a amazing way to go he stayed in my arms until 8.45 in the evening and he just looked so peaceful and out of pain ( now im crying ) I’m sorry this is such a long txt but it’s his anniversary 17th Jan and I miss him so much so for me no I’m not scared of dying because I will be with my gorgeous amazing darling husband again 🙏

I have never been scared of myself dying, but after a run of deaths in my family, I was terrified that more people I loved would die.
I lost an uncle, my mum, my sister, my best friend, another uncle, nephew, my dad then two aunts all within a couple of years

I am ok now but for a while, I could not get out of my mind that everyone I loved would die. At the moment both my brother and my best friend have cancer and I keep thinking the last time both a sibling and a best friend had cancer I lost both right after each other. but I now don't dwell on it as I did a few years back.
