This is bananas though, how can the judge say how long a trial will last for? So the defense asked for a guaranteed 15 days to present their case and the judge hit back on that.

Those poor families have waited for years for this and now they need to wait even longer. I can’t imagine how frustrated they must feel.

So am I understanding this right that the judge basically set an unrealistic goal for the defence team and is now blaming them?

Seems so. Everyone has a right to a fair trial. In it sounds like the judge is trying to actively prevent the defence presenting all of their theories. Which is shifty. I could understand if it was the prosecution doing that, but not the judge.

How does that even work? There are so many variables how can you possibly set an end date?! Is it just a target?

I know it's the way the legal system works and all that but I can't help but feel furious for the families of the two girls and, to some extent, Richard Allen and his family. Regardless of whether he did it or not, this has dragged on for a year and a half since his arrest. And he won't be tried until 2 years after his arrest. Those girls have waited over 7 years for justice.
It feels like attornies just play games, get out of things over legalities and it's sounds like such an exhausting process for the families.

Is there only a certain amount of times it can be pushed back or can it just keep getting pushed back indefinitely? Have no idea how The US legal system works but it's already been 7 years and it's taking the piss at this point

He was only arrested and charged in Oct 2022, plus they added kidnapping charges in January of this year AND he's changed his legal team at least once.

I do feel for the families. At least he's behind bars where he can't hurt anyone else.

I personally think he did it. I hope the prosecution have the evidence needed to nail him.

So in the pre-trial hearing last week it came out that he’s confessed 60 times so far to killing them.
Yet he’s still pleading not guilty and his wife and mother were there supporting him, poor families having to listen to this.

Hopefully they got some secret info from him to prove it. I guess he knows he's toast and is now playing up to the world because he has nothing left.

That article is so strange. He confessed 60 times, but there are police\investigators\other specialists prepared to swear it was some other four people.

Americans seem to love the idea of ritualistic killings, but how many times has it actually happened?

He definitely did it, and he is stuck with crap defence lawyers that are trying very hard to push this odinist cult crap but considering he has confessed endlessly it’s pitiful. He also revealed information that only the killer would know.

They just need to get on with it. It's an insult to the girls that it is being delayed like this.

I just can’t understand why his wife and mother are still standing by him, or how the wife didn’t recognise him from the video the girls took of him before they were murdered. It wasn’t clear but I am sure you would have recognised your own husband.
In this case I really hope they go for the death penalty and I am one not to usually agree to it.

I feel so bad for his poor daughter.

There is speculation that his wife knew it was him or knew something at least, because while on a phone call to her he made a comment to her that insinuated as much.

I personally think there are other people involved (including the guy arrested I might add!). On why a wife might not recognise her husband - well the images\audio were released quite a bit after the murder. She may be trying to protect him. Or it may not be him. In the article above, the wife of the person who's land they were found on said it was her husband on the video (hes since died btw). Maybe there were more than one man working together?
