Dealing with Anxiety

I'm trying to make small steps but it's hard. I know I'm wasting the present and I'll look back and be so gutted that I let this ruin what should be a great part of my life. I just don't know how to enjoy the present, that's my problem. These thoughts are so hard to suppress and hit me the moment I wake up.
I appreciate your responses ♥

I understand you, I am the same.
Although I am financially okay, I also live overseas and have never been one for friends, (mostly due to the language barrier, I am not fluent.)
I lost my best friend and could never be that bothered again.
My anxiety mostly stems from being left alone here, I am older and married but sometimes when my husband is out I do wonder what I would do here without him because in all honesty I have no-one else in the whole world.
Sending a 🫂 to let you know you are not on your own with these thoughts x

Look into TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine)

It's a GODSEND

A lot of time your body is out of balance, hence the anxiety or other symptoms, ie depression, feelings of being overwhelmed.

Hormones can literally wreak havoc with one's life.

I'd highly recommend finding a TCM doctor.

I would also suggest removing alcohol, sugar, caffeine, processed foods & implement an exercise program.

If you don't like working out, find an activity that you enjoy, anything to get you moving. Start changing your lifestyle, one small step at a time.

You will notice a dramatic difference.

If you have the means, I'd also recommend acupuncture and fire cupping.

Haven’t read it but that book called The Power of Now is supposed to be good about living in the present.

Thank you :) I've ordered that and a few others. I do love reading so makes sense to spend my time reading something useful rather than trashy crime thrillers all the time!!

Bringing the thread back.

I really struggle with anxiety around travelling. I have been unwell a few times when visiting different places and now I start to panic a few days before I even go somewhere.

Even when I am not actually thinking about travelling, 24-48 hours before I go I will start to feel physically ill, and will sometimes get a bad anxiety stomach. Also, when I get places I make myself miserable by putting myself under pressure to enjoy it, and feeling like I am not enjoying it enough.

Does anyone have any tips on overcoming travel anxiety?

Is it the actual travelling that’s causing anxiety, or being in another place and being unwell/not knowing what to expect because of that?

If it’s the latter, I can relate slightly. I tend to just over prepare. I take loads of over the counter medication with me so I know I’ve got what I need if the thing that causes me anxiety then flares up (for context mine is diverticular disease and acid reflux interlinked which I get anxious over flaring when I’m away. Due to this, I pack loads of paracetamol, a hot water bottle, liquid gaviscon, herbal anxiety tablets and take blow up pillows - I know it’s a lot - in case I need additional pillows and the hotel won’t supply).

I know it may not sound very warm but I find it’s almost about taking the emotion out of it and looking at it logistically - what can you and/or others who are travelling with you do to ease any concerns?

I am slo going to take my hot water bottle in my case, a mini first aid kit and some mint tea bags.

I went to the GP yesterday as I've been experiencing some awful symptoms over the past 10 months. The past 2 weeks have been horrendous and the worst I've ever felt. Lightheadness, sweating, racing heart when standing up and really bad shakes. I told them I'm not feeling anxious but he's then said it's physical anxiety and not mental. He's prescribed pronanonlol to take has anyone got an experiences with it ? Any side effects?

I take it, it does help with the panicky heart racing feeling for me and I had no side effects. Hope it helps!

I used to take this! Really helped reduce my physical symptoms of anxiety like sweating and shaking.

Hi everyone, first post in this thread

I'm 32 and have lifelong anxiety, morphed from being a child and having genuine fear at not pleasing my parents, who split when I was 2 but both seperately did things that made me feel responsible for their emotional states, from a very young age. I guess this has forced me into being what is now referred to as an "empath" and constantly horrifically anxious at the idea of upsetting people. I can't even have an argument with my boyfriend without crying myself to sleep and being horrifically upset that he's not as upset as I am because who I am and how I feel can't exist independently of someone I care about.
It's really hard having both this and general anxiety, I was prescribed Mirtazipine 45mg (the highest amount recommended) which helped my horrific anxiety that I had before, during and after being incorrectly prescribed Citalopram for 9 months previous. I hate how I was just passed from dr to dr via an online service recommended by my GP, and none of them listened when I said the Citalopram was literally making me so physically anxious every morning that I was more often than not vomiting, if not, dry retching for hours due to physical anxiety in my abdomen.

I'm better now on Mirtazipine but rely heavily on recreational drugs to help my brain slow down, and I'm currently recognising signs that imply this is becoming a problem, like irritability when not high etc.

It's sometimes so exhausting being aware of your mental state. I'd love to be unaware.

Did you take it daily or just as needed? Like when your heart was racing? I'm not to sure when to take mine as my heart doesn't always race it's mainly lightheadness x

I have 10mg each day as advised by GP. I avoided taking any medication for a long time as I didn't like being on any medication long term but they do really help

To jump in here, I was given propanolol a few times but it didn't work until I was given a high dose (80mg I think) but slow release - I take one each evening (and mornings as needed) and it really helps the physical effects of anxiety (racing heart, stomach issues) but doesn't affect me in any other way whatsoever. I'd recommend taking it every day and seeing how you get on. The light headedness will be caused by a lack of oxygen to your brain which is still a heart/breathing issue so the propanolol should help. If it doesn't work then ask your dr about slow release as the 10-30mg ones didn't work for me really

I take 30mg three times a day and it really was a gamechanger for me. I’m on Sertraline 100mg which I feel helps with the mental side of things and then Propranolol takes the edge off physically. In my experience, even with just Sertraline I’d still get the physical symptoms of anxiety and then my head would start thinking “I’m in fight or flight, why, is there something I should be worrying about” etc. The betablockers knock all that on the head so I just generally feel more calm. Can’t say I’ve had any side effects either! It sounds like they may have a similar effect for you where they help break you out of the weird anxiety loop where your body is freaking out but you can’t quite work out why!

It's bloody awful isn't it? I've experienced anxiety in the past but I knew that's what it was. I actually convinced myself there was something seriously wrong with how bad I was feeling and there being no cause if you get what I mean. The doctor did say to me about taking 40mg 3 times per day but after explaining taking medicines causes anxiety he said to take 10mg and can work my way up. Xx
