David Walliams

It annoys me because there are so many better children’s authors out there. Jaqueline Wilson, Lauren Child, Julia Donaldson, Michael Morpurgo who wrote War Horse. I don’t know why he gets so much acclaim?
I'm curious to know what his books are like. I've never had a reason to read them (no kids & I'm not his target audience). Another Michael Morpurgo book I loved was Kensuke's Kingdom. Discovered it thanks to a primary school teacher.

Unwatchable 😐 I skipped to the end and not surprised to see Walliams commenting. I'm interested in the 'via Katie Waissel' bit of the post. If I remember correctly she was an X-Factor contestant.

My kids went through a phase of reading his books. The stories and characters made me uncomfortable. It was like a vulgar parody of Ronald Dahl. Poor kid gets revenge on stupid adults. But the bad guy characters were one dimensional and there’s thinly veiled misogyny and sneering at poor people/social problems in every one we read. I was glad when they got bored of him.

Oh wow, also spot a young Hamish from Lego Masters Australia

I can't stand him but he was playing a Saville type character in the show rather than being himself.i suspect if it was himself it would be women/girls

Now whether he should have even been doing that is another matter

Are you sure it's a character? It definitely looks a lot like David Wailliaims.

If he wants to get away with that he needs to stick an emu or something on his main groping hand.

Yes it's a character called Des Kaye

But could of course just be an excuse to get young guys up on stage, but it is one of his repertoire of characters

The character of Des Kaye was meant to be an old children's tv presenter who was no longer relevant and having to work in "normal" jobs. The joke, if you can call it that was that he was still working he job in the style of a kids tv presenter. I loved the character of Des Kaye on the show, I went to see Little Britain Live twice and was shocked at how the character had become a sex pest. FWIW I do remember telling my friend on the second night that it was a scam because the same lad went up on stage both nights so obviously a plant rather than an unsuspecting member of the public.

I've mentioned on here about chatting to someone about David Walliams and my feeling about him. He was shocked then remembered an incident where David was pretending to dry hump a young lad on stage, to clarify I'm almost certain that this happened at BGT not at his show. It still may be a plant and he may have 'been in character' at the time, I don't know but it is still utterly inappropriate

I've mentioned earlier on this thread, but he also did the same to poor Phil Spencer on Would I Lie to You. It could have been a planned bit of the show, but Phil looked pretty uncomfortable. I don't get why DW thinks this is peak humour. I just find it puerile. 🤷‍♀️

Gives him time to actually attempt to write one his books now, rather than handing it off to a ghost writer.

He’s just saving face, I reckon they’ve told him to quit. I wonder if they’ll get Piers Morgan back.
