Have a small experience of them in that we had a Bretheren family on our street when I was a teenager and I briefly went to school with a girl who was Bretheren.
The girl who was at our school was very open about how restrictive their life was and was eye-opening. No telly or radio. She had to cycle home for lunch every day because she couldn't eat her lunch with non believers. Also, they couldn't share plumbing or sewerage with non believers which means most of them live in detached houses (as did the family who lived on our street) and she couldn't use the toilets at school.

I saw trailers for that and wanted to watch it but couldn't bear much more of this shit because of the ongoing news, so much violence and brutality everywhere. But hopefully at some stage I'll be mentally ready for it!

Not exactly a cult but cult like - the program on Netflix. I binged it today, very interesting and awfully sad for all the children who now live with CPTSD from there time in it.

These guys fascinate me. There's a bit of a stronghold of them in my region but I'd never heard of them until a few years ago when a friend got a job at their school.

She said she had to wear long skirts and wasn't allowed to eat with them.

They're loaded and have these massive houses, fancy cars etc. I think they believe in spending and enjoying their wealth and not hoarding it - or something like that.

I asked my mum about them. She knew a bit about them and spoke about the 1970 sex scandal up here that caused the split mentioned in that article.

I'm fascinated by cults and we've gotten really into watching all the documentaries on Netfix/ Prime etc. Just settling down to watch the new Raëlism one on Netflix, looks suitably bonkers!
I'd never heard of this one before until someone on the Scientology thread mentioned it a while back so I'm looking forward to finding out more.

Ambition is really a vulnerability huh. Just watched Dancing For The Devil - very good programme, very odd scenario.

So about Self aren’t they, the aul cults - do nothing for anyone else, preach no kindness, no community outreach (obvs). Cults that put Christ at the centre - it’s just, that’s not it. So another gap and vulnerability- what Jesus Christ actually apparently preached.

This is when the cult was on Dr Phil. It aired 6/7 months before her death...

I’m actually an atheist now but used to be super into a certain religious group (that isn’t a cult, well no more than any organised religious group I guess) because I just wanted the community and fellowship that was provided by it and I still really miss and yearn for that.

Came here after seeing that! Such an odd story. It seems that Hannah's best known for GoT, but to me she'll always be Cassie from Skins. There was lots of speculation about her weight gain and some commenters were being really insulting about it. Now I'm thinking it's probably a side effect of psych meds.

I’ve just watchedKeep Sweet Pray & Obey and Under the Banner of Heaven, and am on the lookout for any other LDS-themed stuff as I’m absolutely fascinated by the weirdness, so any tv/book recommendations are welcomed.

I also recently watched a NCXIM (probably spelled it wrong) docudrama and a Sarah Lawrence documentary series on Disney+, which were both pretty good.
