I was listening to Beyond The Blinds and they were talking about some mad cult that Shawn Mendes has been trapped in a cult that Miley Cyrus was also involved in - called "Modern Mystery School" it's all magic and sex and stuff

There was a PB in our year who had to go home for lunch every day because of this. She also was forbidden to watch TV so if we ever watched anything in class she had to leave.
Strangest thing she told us was that PB usually live in detached houses because they couldn't use water/sewage systems that outsiders used. If someone lived in a semi detached or terrace it would be because their neighbours were family.

I think I watched it on sky or Netflix but this was years ago. Looks like it is on amazon prime & YouTube though

The JW parents I know have not cut out their children for leaving? I’m not criticising what you say, just saying what I know from my own family members.

I guess it depends on where they are based, I know American JWs tend to be a bit more into the shunning. There are sneaky work around for stuff like blood transfusions for kids. so it might be they work around it in the case of shunning, too.
A relative of mine converted when she met a JW and nearly died because she refused a blood transfusion. :/

It happens in the UK too. Have you not noticed how many 'churches' have sprung up lately.

I’m can confirm that it does happen in this country (U.K.). The cult I was part of was being run with men who had no religious background or ‘training’ they just decided to set up a fee paying church offering something’new’

I have family that were JW, they used to out door knocking which my cousins hated. They used to have a present day once a year in place of birthdays and Christmas, which I now think shouldn't have even been allowed.

My mum also had to specify that any invite to our house in December wasn't for Christmas reasons.

They are all out of it now and my cousins very much a Catholic now adays.

My friends mum was a JH, friend was vaguely involved when young (avoided assembly!) but wasn’t forced. Her mum left & went back again, her funeral was JW and it was honestly one of the loveliest I’ve been to. Absolutely packed and the person holding it really knew her & gave a lovely eulogy. Full of religious bs too, but lovely. I reckon it deffo depends on the local head honchos.

Oh - then I'm sorry. I hadn't realise it was cult-related for you (sorry - I didn't recognise your username as linked to the "I got out", even tough I had been admiring of your acheivement)

To me it is a reminder that one day the whole world will live in peace. Perhaps what that cult meant, too, but I'm sure it was a different concept of peace.

There was a really long piece about that in, I think, The Cut. Let me check. A family were trying to get a girl back (she had a sister, possibly a twin who was also a dancer) they married her off to one of the cult.
