It’s not your home, Crystal, it’s a temporary 6 month rental. You did the same thing to this kid when you got him excited and told him the guest room at your grandpa boyfriend’s house was his bedroom. (Somehow everybody in the world but you knew that relationship wasn’t lasting very long.) This place is no more permanent than any of the places you slept on floors, in spare rooms or couch surfed. The sad thing is I think the kid seems to have a better grasp on reality than crystal and doesn’t get his hopes up. Remember when he was the one having to tell her the material things don’t matter?
Can you imagine every time you go to see your mum she’s in a different place? As prematurely wise as he’s had to be, that’s got to be a lot for a kid to deal with. (I can only imagine the conversations between the dads and stepmoms about her.) Having a transient for a parent because she can’t grow up and offer her children a stable home. She likes to spin it as being an “adventurous mum” when really she just can’t get her tit together. In her mid-30s.
I think he has been let down a lot by mum so doesn’t gets his hopes up, just enjoys the moments with his mum when he gets them.
