I’m the same, I can’t use straight needles either.

My mum stares at me like I've landed from the moon when she sees me knitting, she gave me all my nans knitting needles from the 70s and o was like thanks I love them but I can't use them

I loved crochet but sewing caught my attention the past few years, I really ought to pick up a crochet hook again.

 

[What's your point]

Had to scrap my newest project (Abeline sweater by woolbird) 3 times as kept making silly mistakes (blaming my husband as he puts me off when I'm counting) but finally making progress!

Managed German short rows today which I have never tried before and finally on the yoke bit of the pattern with the colourwork!

My husband is out all day and night tomorrow and my daughter is away for the weekend also so I have a full day on it tomorrow with no interruptions which will be fantastic!

What is everyone's else working on? And is anyone expecting some crafty gifts from santa? I'm hoping for a knitting book (Kutovakika's new book).

Also what is everyone's favorite craft gadget? Mine is my neck lamp, I love it and makes crafting so much easier.

My biggest regret craft purchase is my circular knitting machine, used it twice but get no enjoyment out of it at all.

What did you make with your Cricut? I have a birthday coming up and think I will ask for money towards one but was thinking the expression would be a good stater machine for me from the reviews I've read but I'm not sure? I'm a bit scared of them too haha

Hello! All around craft slut here I do 'em all, just try and stop me! Although garment sewing is my main hobby. I did a lot of cross stitch gifts for Christmas so sewing was on the back burner but now I'm ready to sew up a storm in January.

I also treated myself to a Cricut Maker just before Christmas but so far have only done a test cut to check it was working. Bit scared of it to be honest

Does anyone here ever use Folksy or sells on Folksy? I've got a poor neglected shop on Etsy that I want to get up and running again but saw this post yesterday and now wondering if I should try Folksy instead. There is a lot of stuff on Etsy that I love but a lot of it is not handmade and I don't ship outside the UK so Folksy make so much more sense for me.....but do people even know it exists????

I don’t sell anything but Etsy has gotten pretty bad for letting people sell mass produced tat I believe.

You should check out Tilly's online workshops too. She has a Make Friends with a Sewing Machine one which covers all the basics. I haven't done that one myself but I have done her intro to sewing jersey and intro to shirtdress ones and they were really good.

Thank you so much, just been reading the course synopsis and it’s exactly what I need. I’m treating myself to it, now all I need is the baby to cooperate and give me some time to really get to grips with it!

I've been making hats (fascinators) using recycled items, feathers from local pheasants too
Found many decorative bits and pieces and fabric from charity shops.

It maybe depends on how much and the extent of the damage. My friend got coffee all over her crochet project but she managed to salvage it.

Can't remember if i have posted on this thread before but I love crafting! I will try anything and everything but since I taught myself to knit a few years ago that is my favourite thing to do.

I make a lot of cowls mostly fair isle or cable knit as I like a project that I can finish in a few days but have also made a couple of jumpers for my daughter (the Sunday Sweater by petite knits and the Harlequin sweater by the knit stitch - both very well written patterns) I have also just started the Abeline pullover by the Woolbird and I am doing this in a rusty and beige colour (only cast on earlier today so very early stages).

My favourite knitting vlogger is Kutovakika I absolutely love her style of knitting and I am hoping my husband has got me her new book for Christmas.

I will post some pictures tomorrow of some of the things I have made as I keep most of.my knitted items in a vacuum seal bag under my bed.

Having said all this about my love of knitting my favourite project I have EVER made was a rolife miniature kit called Emily's flower shop, it took me ages but honestly enjoyed it so much I have tried a couple of other kits since but never really got into them.

Hello all! So pleased to see this thread

I’m dreadful at crafting, I have neither the talent nor patience but I’m determined to crack one. I had a baby 5 months ago and for my own sanity I need to do an activity for me. I’ve got a cheap sewing machine, I’ve been trying YouTube beginner videos (I’m so basic, I’m still struggling with the bobbin!) but after seeing a few mentions of Tilly & the Buttons on here I’ll check out what they may have to help.

Yes please do, I fancy it too, I see all these beautiful resin things and think about making them but then I think when will I have time between work, my cake business, my cricut hobby and general life

I'm going to have to move house if I take up many more crafty hobbies as space is running out!!

@Snippysnips great suggestion, I hadn't crocheted since a bereavement in March. I find it relaxing so I went slowly and managed a baby blanket. Now on my second one

I have made 3 Merchant & Mills patterns - they are not straight forward! For two of them I had to go to my local shop for practical help to find out what I was supposed to do.

Ah thanks for the heads up, I can’t cope with traditional patterns e.g. New Look etc, they make me question my ability to understand English

@colouredlines that was epic. I love it. This is a bit but I came second in the BHL fabric design competition attached to that Kickstarter. It took ages to get my £100 prize (had to chase them) and I never got my commission for the fabric they sold even though they told me it had sold really well (probs a lie tbf but my family bought some so I was owed something!) so I am not a fan of them. Again, their patterns need a lot of adjustments but I did love the Elisalex dress. In 2013 or whenever it was - not now! I also thought I liked the Anna but yes, so many adjustments!

My Mum made our son a similar blanket when I had him, still have it - it's thicker than this pattern, not as fine. It's cherished although doesn't see the light of day.

This is a gift that is passed on - an heirloom piece. Just lovely x

So clever - and I’m an “animal print is a neutral” kind of girl so it’s right up my street!

I've just spent the last few days building a miniature dolls house kit I bought in a charity shop. I've done a few similar before but this one is huge! I've pretty much finished the structure but really struggling with connecting the electrics! No idea what I'm going to do with it when I'm finished... For a miniature, it's huge! I picked up knitting really easily and was making quite complicated things early on. I never got away with crochet but after a lot of perseverance I finally managed to master granny squares. However I cannot follow a pattern, can't remember what the stitches are called and if I don't do it for a few days I forget everything and have to start again! I love knitting soft toys and wish I could do the same with crochet but I get in a muddle increasing and decreasing and working in rounds in crochet. I've tried watching videos on YouTube but I don't learn well that way, I prefer to follow a written instruction/series of pictures. I'd love to properly master crochet as I find it much quicker than knitting and I don't have to watch every stitch.
