I'd recommend The Crochet Crowd. I used a mixture of youtubers when learning including Bella Coco and HappyBerry crochet.

I had two hours in a car today as a passenger and brought loads of Granny Squares with me to weave in the ends. I never learn an dalways leave them to do all at once. I have 102 all weaved in. Only 18 more to go

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone has used wool and gang or we are knitters kits and think they are worth it for a pretty much complete beginner knitter? There’s a couple of lovely cardigan kits on both sites that I would like to try but they are very expensive! I have knitted in the past but not for about 10 years and never more than a scarf. I have also just taken up sewing so I’m not sure if I should get another hobby thank you!

I’ve used Wool and the Gang as a beginner, but I bought the kit on Black Friday because as you say, they’re expensive! Wool and the Gang have 20% kits with the code APRIL20 if you do decide to go ahead!

Can't remember if i have posted on this thread before but I love crafting! I will try anything and everything but since I taught myself to knit a few years ago that is my favourite thing to do.

I make a lot of cowls mostly fair isle or cable knit as I like a project that I can finish in a few days but have also made a couple of jumpers for my daughter (the Sunday Sweater by petite knits and the Harlequin sweater by the knit stitch - both very well written patterns) I have also just started the Abeline pullover by the Woolbird and I am doing this in a rusty and beige colour (only cast on earlier today so very early stages).

My favourite knitting vlogger is Kutovakika I absolutely love her style of knitting and I am hoping my husband has got me her new book for Christmas.

I will post some pictures tomorrow of some of the things I have made as I keep most of.my knitted items in a vacuum seal bag under my bed.

Having said all this about my love of knitting my favourite project I have EVER made was a rolife miniature kit called Emily's flower shop, it took me ages but honestly enjoyed it so much I have tried a couple of other kits since but never really got into them.

I love Fair Isle knitting and I'm really into knitwear at the moment (and good knitwear is so expensive) so I've asked my friend to buy me a place on a knitting course for Christmas. I am an experienced crocheter but they're like different languages and I always go back to crochet so hopefully that'll keep me engaged!

I did a trawl of some charity shops ang got some knitting books for around £1 each, so that can be a nice cheap way to get some patterns.

If it helps I tried and failed so many times with crochet, I bought a kids kit with instructions and wool to make a granny square bag. This was the only thing that helped me. Also good was an old ladybird book they do crochet and knitting.

I am making some crochet beanie hats. 3 people have specifically asked if I could make them a hat and told me what sort of colours they like. I have been able to use yarn from my stash for 2 of them. I have finished one, and have started on 2nd.

If I finish it on time I plan on getting a cross stitch framed and gifting it

I keep seeing ppl on YT - sustainable vloggers, or booktubers who decide to teach themself knitting and crochet and then the next minute in no time al all they're banging out hats and jumpers and doing stuff with no pattern like making scrunchies in different stitches with stripes and patterns and here am i not even getting to the stitch stage or being able to do a granny square or straight one colour scarf

Im guessing they don’t show you all their practice pieces and the times they went wrong?

I swear you absolutely CAN do it. I am the clumsiest most cack handed person ever, and if I can learn to crochet then anyone can.
Don’t think about hats and blankets and jumpers. Just start with the most basic stuff - the foundation chain, single crochet and then double crochet. Take your time and practice - after a while you will honestly get it.
This woman is meant to be good. Give it a try.

An avid knitter here. A neighbour taught me when I was a little girl. 50+ years later and I knit most nights watching TV. I am addicted to buying wool and I love nothing more than a roam around a wool shop, they are like a magnet to me .

I have always wanted to crochet and have books and I know there is YouTube but I have never got round to it.

My latest hobby is diamond art painting and I am kind of addicted to that now. Been making birthday and Christmas cards, pictures etc and I find it so therapeutic.

I have a little business on eBay and sell buttons and some of my finished items, all as a hobby and I love it..... the hobby that is no eBay so much.

The Knitting Network is also my favourite place to buy wool and I dread their daily emails because they tempt me so much!!

I know how you feel. I'm currently in the process of putting borders on 120 granny squares. I have around 50 done. I have been working on it for 3 years (on and off between baby blankets for friends) and I am so fed up with it and I just want it over and done with.

I’m easing myself back in slowly as I struggle with both pain and dwindling energy levels so doing quite simple things at the moment. I bought a box blank with a birthday voucher and have made a storage box for greetings cards (as I usually store them in about 30 different places and lose them!) last week and today I’m repainting the tray that our coffee and tea stuff stands on, lining it with fablon and adding some jute string round the handles just to make it look a bit nicer.

I know they’re really simple things, I usually knit/crochet/sew/embroider/papercraft etc, but at least I’m doing something. I’m slowly starting to get ideas for more complex projects, which is really good as I’ve had zero motivation or inspiration for months.

I’d love to see more pictures of what others have been doing!

A relative bought me a sewing machine for Christmas and I'm busy pinning projects on Pinterest to have a go at!

Can anyone recommend any channels or resources for complete beginners on using a sewing machine, or any very basic tutorials? I find it much easier to follow a video than pictures or text.

I don’t know of anything online, but your local college or fabric shop would have info on classes or drop in sessions. I found drop in sessions were brilliant when I learnt

I get you, i do some pottery classes and try to replicate what i see in videos, most of it ends up squashed and reclaimed so ive stopped watching and gone back to basics, give yourself a break and have a look at some of the cake fail or knit fail articles on pinterest it lightens the load !

I'm a sewer, mainly cross stitch and embroidery. Card making and jewellery...used to make a lot but got sidetracked when we moved home. A few years ago did two mosaic workshops - enjoy that a lot but tend to do it when I can sit outside.

This winter I've mainly done Diamond painting - I haven't felt up to having concentration, so this has been really good. I've tried to find an online forum, but haven't found anything yet.

This morning I looked at a couple of Crochet mags in the supermarket, tempted to give crochet a go - have some wool from making pom poms. Would it be easier to watch an online YT tutorial?

I need to stitch something for a friend that has recently had a baby, 2 wedding stitched cards for the summer, and to get started on some Xmas decs. No pressure ...
