I have decided to start on an 'ugly scrap' blanket. I have lots of smaller lengths of yarn that are to small to do anything with, and several half balls of yarn left from various things. I don't enjoy making small toys so I thought this would be best use for leftovers.

I have started by sorting out all my scraps, untangling them and joining the smaller ones to make a scrap ball. I have also unravelled some test swatches and failed projects.

I'm starting a Call the Midwife crochet blanket this week. I dont like the darker nights so I need to keep occupied. Crochet is ideal, peaceful and mindful

Where did you learn? I’ve tried YouTube but couldn’t get my head around it

I got this book, the step by step photos made it so much easier and I found it better to have it in front of me rather than watch something on YouTube so I could keep referring back. It shows you how to start, change rows, stop etc all step by step also how to make simple things too.

Is anyone crafting any Christmas gifts?

I am making some crochet beanie hats. 3 people have specifically asked if I could make them a hat and told me what sort of colours they like. I have been able to use yarn from my stash for 2 of them. I have finished one, and have started on 2nd.

I’m such a selfish crafter, I make everything for me and the odd pair of socks for gifting

I have been working on the same blanket for weeks and it is not done. I am having a break to try making a crochet beanie hat. Thought it would be a nice change of pace.

These are all amazing but the bobble cardigan is I've been lusting after one pretty much the same on chicwish for at least a year which I've attached. Where was that pattern from please? I can do basic knitting (like straight lines haha, I make a great scarf of blanket) but my Nan is a pro so I'll maybe ask her for "help"

Lily Allen wears a similar amazing jumper on her book cover that I’ve never been able to locate, it’s similar to this! Although a lot of chic wish is just sourced from Ali express, you can find it for better than half price there!

I made this from a Rolife kit. Working on another of theirs at the moment, and enjoying it.

I crochet too, but forgot to take a picture of the last thing I did, which was a baby blanket for new nephew. Attic24 and BellaCoco are fab for anyone wanting to learn.

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone has used wool and gang or we are knitters kits and think they are worth it for a pretty much complete beginner knitter? There’s a couple of lovely cardigan kits on both sites that I would like to try but they are very expensive! I have knitted in the past but not for about 10 years and never more than a scarf. I have also just taken up sewing so I’m not sure if I should get another hobby thank you!

I've not used them but it may be cheaper to buy a pattern and the wool seperately - you can then choose whatever range of wool meets your budget. Theres lots of patterns on Etsy and some free ones on Raverly or the Love crafts website.

And you can never have too many hobbies!!!

This is my progress so far at the ' As we go stripey'. I had a bit of a fail with the 'Catherine Wheel' section. I just couldn't get it right. It looked right but I somehow ended up with to many stitches, so when I went back to a more simple stitch on row below I could not get the numbers right again.

Anyway, after 3 days/5 hours of trying to get that bit right I gave up and removed it and did some rows on pretty colours instead. Then I got to the star stitch row and I didnt like how they looked, so I replaced them with Suzette stitche.

So the blanket isn't really following the pattern anymore, but I thought I will try and stick to it where I can, and stick to the principle of changing colour and stitch type each row

Hey! General maker here I’m working my way to sewing all my own clothes. This evening is going to be spent unpicking some Winslow culottes that I have messed up the pockets and need to undo pretty much the whole thing to sort out the mess I have made!

My crochet is absolutely doing my head in at the moment so I had another go at some paper quilling. I still haven’t managed to work out how to avoid covering myself and the surrounding area in glue.

That is a good idea. Look for clases in local area. There are probably some youtube channels dedicated to teaching beginners.

Please don't give up. There is no obligation to be good at a hobby or craft, just enjoy the process and the skill develops over time x

I have taken a break from my granny square project as I felt like I wanted to make something big.

I am making the Attic 24 Sungold blanket as I was gifted the yarn pack at Christmas. Usually the pack has a printed pattern, but this one was originally a CAL with a section released every week for 8 weeks. I had a quick look and my brain did this maths..... 15 colours = 15 stripes a week = easy breezy. Decided to try and do it in 8 weeks.

However....

Each stripe is actually made of 2 rows, so it is 30 stripes a week. Week 1 I was completely rows late into the night of day 7 to try and stick to my goal. I decided to do better on week 2...

Well it is week 2. I have 2 days left to complete this weeks section and I have 20 rows left. When will I ever learn?

I'm getting so down about this.. I keep seeing ppl on YT - sustainable vloggers, or booktubers who decide to teach themself knitting and crochet and then the next minute in no time al all they're banging out hats and jumpers and doing stuff with no pattern like making scrunchies in different stitches with stripes and patterns and here am i not even getting to the stitch stage or being able to do a granny square or straight one colour scarf

But they have all day, every day to practice...Im guessing from other threads that you work so have less time.
They won't show you that they get frustrated and upset. You see what they want you to.
Start small and keep going!

I need to make a crochet blanket for a baby boy and found a pattern that I like but after showing my mum what I plan to make she said it’s a bit OTT
So, I’d like some opinions please, is my mum right and I should just do something a bit more plain? Any recommendations on a pattern would also be appreciated.

It’s only taken me a year to pluck up the courage to thread my gift overlocker. Made a pair of pants yesterday I’m wearing today - so no pics as I need to protect you from my arse!

Someone said a few pages back you Don’t have to be great - just enjoy it. I’ll remind myself of that next time I’m unpicking a seam… or struggling with which way up to face the fabric.

I started a sewing class last year but it got cancelled after 3 classes (Covid) so I'm hoping to get back in to that for 2021. I'm quite crafty in general and often make or customise bits and pieces, I'm hoping to purchase a Cricut machine this year too, I'm a very keen baker and initially was looking at something to make cake toppers but it seems there's so much I could do with it! If anyone has any experience of one I'd love some insight.

My main craft is cross stitch though I have a habit of rarely finishing pics for myself, as I always get distracted doing them for gifts( including this Lion King).
My New Years resolution though is to finish my started ones & not start any new ones.
I'm also getting into Diamond Painting i've done 4 since Christmas.

I used to sell lots in this way- people would much rather buy off me than head out to the card shop on a rainy Tuesday!
