Seems the hepatitis is global and not just in young kids
I’ve seen a few of these articles lately but none seem to mention which of the Hep variants the cases are, or indeed if they are all the same variant. I find this a bit odd*.

* I find it odd as many years ago I wrote a dissertation about the immunological response to HBV (Hepatitis B Virus) which also looked at HDV (Hepatitis D Virus), so it’s an area that piques my interest (I don’t work in that field - I swapped to a better paid/prospect science). My news alerts have pinged many times over the years with cases, but they’ve generally been localised with a named variant and/or likely cause so this is a bit unusual.

According to my husband - Hepatitis should be my specialist subject on Mastermind. 🤷🏼‍♀️

It's a rare inflammation they're not really sure what type it is ,aren't children immunised against hep B ? it must be one of the other strains unless a new thing entirely .

Just read @monga post link which has ruled out A,B,C and E. but not D?

Edit to respond to @monga cross post - I believe it was 2017 that Hep B vaccines were added into the UK childhood immunisation schedule - Hep B vaccines were said to reduce Hep D.

caveat - I’m on holiday with my family for a few days so I don’t have all my papers to hand and I’m only reading and responding when everyone else is fast asleep (the joys of perimenopausal insomnia)

Doesn't hep B contribute to D ? very worrying whatever the cause especially as it's severe enough to warrant a transplant.
Response to @monga

See my edit above.

It is worrying and assuming the article you linked is accurate it’s either got to be D or another. Maybe G 😬 - but that’s a blood/bodily fluid spread one - or it could be a new unrecorded variant.

It is worth remembering that some, if not all Hep viruses can lie dormant for years and you can be a carrier without having symptoms.

I’ll read up (and speak to some of my old friends) more when I get back from being away. But for now, I’ll enjoy my break from reality and ensure my kids stay away from unclean toilets and hypodermic needles littering the paths. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I was thinking bodily fluids due to the age of the kids ,parents would be more hands on with that age group . Could it be vaccine related if the parent had acute hep (symptomless) from the covid vaccine ? so many questions on this one ,maybe a new mutated variant ???

@monga - It is unusual that there are children who (from the brief bits I’ve read) have deteriorated so quickly that they have got to transplant stage (and indeed transplant) so quickly. Call me a cynic but it’s being portrayed as a very quick process.

It is very odd isn't it. I hope they're putting a lot of effort into the cause ,also strange that it's showing globally so not confined to a specific area

Clearly the numbers have been misunderstood even through it comes from ONS. The vaccines are still safe and effective because Pfizer said so.

Does anyone who got the vaccine feel a bit foolish or am I still a selfish conspiracy theorist?
I think the issue is that so many people got the vaccine for the wrong reasons. The only reason anyone should ever get a vaccine is for medical purposes not through fear of their basic freedoms being denied to them. (Like going to events or on holiday). The most affective way of stopping it spreading is to regularly test and they have totally stopped that now unless you pay for it which a majority of people won’t do.

My partner was offered her dream job working as cabin crew with virgin but couldn’t take it because they wanted her to be double jabbed and she doesn’t want to be. I understand that’s more a fact of the countries they travel to and the requirements but the maddest part of it all is seeing all these flights being cancelled because the staff all have covid! Surely testing the night and morning of each flight is a safer way to check someone doesn’t have covid then just having the vaccine and waiting for symptoms to occur?

Doesn’t really make much of a difference if people are testing or not ,the plan is to live with it and the hope vaccines will keep the health service from being overwhelmed ,they just need to keep people on board with repeated top ups.

so the cases won’t be less as people aren’t testing? And hospitalisation won’t be less due to the recent strains being less severe? And the fact that so many people have immunity having had it? Not saying the vaccine doesn’t work at all but there’s many facets to it. It’s not as black and white as the vaccine has solely saved the day and being tested is the only way you can actually know if you have it or not. If you don’t have covid your not a threat to anyone, vaccinated or not. You either have it or you don’t

It hasn’t ,there’s many things to factor in but the gov would like people to believe it’s solely responsible, there’s nothing they can do about infection’s if they want people to carry on with normal life ,so testing doesn’t make a blind bit of difference tbh even healthcare will be mixing patient’s going forward.

Yes that’s exactly what it all feels like it’s been geared towards, the vaccine is the sole saviour. And of course testing won’t make a difference to the virus and people getting it etc but if I have covid and I take a test which confirms I have it, I can be sensible about my choices and choose wether I put people at risk. The fact that people just follow the government so quickly and without question is crazy to me. It was like that all throughout the pandemic. Rule change after rule change that made 0 sense and people simply obliged through sheer fear.

Common sense should prevail here as it always should have.

For me if I'm ill with anything I steer clear of people .I've never needed to gov to tell me this ,it's common sense 😂 likewise I've never sent my ill child to school and definitely never with a temp .

Nail on head. But if Boris says you can just crack on and infect everyone I guess it must be true, I mean he’d never get anything wrong would he 😂
