I haven’t officially heard back from my employer with regard to my situation but apparently they thought that by asking to work from home for my own safety as a vulnerable person, that I was showing a bad attitude. They thought it came across as selfish. I have been told this by someone senior who I consider a work friend.

Actually what I was trying to do was continue to work and make sure I had the means to do so, but in a safe environment. This would be the ideal situation, rather than risking going to work, catching coronavirus and being off for a minimum of 14 days and therefore damaging the company bottom line.

I can’t believe this to be honest. It shows what they think of me as a person and my work ethic really. I work overtime every single day and no request is too much and this is how they treat me.

I'm a secondary teacher and I totally understand parents keeping children off school at the moment - if my son was at school (he's only a toddler) - and I wasn't a teacher, obviously - I would not send him to school. I totally get that for pupils this situation is far from ideal, but as important as education is, health and life must come first. Exams, qualifications etc will be sorted out eventually.

I'm so frustrated by the lack of clarity from the government regarding anything - I'm asthmatic, and like lots of others have mentioned I'm not sure if it's advised that I isolate. The WHO have said that asthmatics are more at risk of becoming more severely ill with the virus, but I don't know if my condition is 'severe' enough to warrant isolation. Either way, I don't feel like I could. I'm expected to be in work as long as schools are open and potentially expose myself to the virus because childcare is needed. I understand that there are reasons to keep schools open at the moment - such as many parents work in the health service - but how have other countries overcome these issues with school closures? Teachers will not be actually teaching soon anyway - it will just be childcare due to staff shortages and large numbers of children/multiple classes joined together. (I know that many people in other professions including the health service will of course have to continue going to work too, and I'm by no means saying my concerns are as/more important - I'm just frustrated). My sister works for the NHS in a local hospital where there have been confirmed cases and deaths and has been told that she cannot wear a mask due to her asthma.

My husband works in IT and could do all of his work from home - but his boss said today that he had no plans to have staff work from home until it is enforced by the government - he won't be acting on what is just 'advice.' These things need to be enforced sooner rather than later.

There are quite a few confirmed cases in my area and so far my school has not even addressed the issue at at all - with staff or students. It's not been mentioned at all and no additional measures have been put in place - just rumours amongst staff of plans 'behind the scenes' for if/when we have lots of staff absent and finding ways to keep the school running.

I'm becoming increasingly stressed and concerned about the whole situation, but a lot of people I know don't seem to be taking the situation very seriously. I feel like I just want to lockdown my family now 😫 watching what other countries are doing differently worries me. I hope more is done in the UK soon 🤞🏻

Sorry, that ended up being a long rant!

They should make China pay for it they started this whole disaster.
I think more needs to be said about China. It's not racist to say their food habits are causing misery for people all over the earth. This is the third pandemic in recent years that came from the way they consume food. Noone wants to say anything because they will be called racist.

Feel like I'm living in some weird alternative reality

I’ve seen loads of people say should I go to a party, I want to go out for my birthday,

45 people have died in the last 3 days
The advice was quite simple, they said to avoid non essential travel and only go out if needed. This was for EVERYONE!

This is being done to try and reduce the burden on the NHS so that more people’s lives can be saved.
Yes it might be your birthday or you’ve been planning it for months but this is literally life and death and probably the worst thing a lot of us will experience in our lifetime.

Go to work if you can’t do it from home, get your medication and food supplies and get a little fresh air but please listen to advice and stay home whenever possible.

Sorry for being dramatic but it’s really pissing me off, if someone put your family members life at risk because they wanted to go out to the pub or for a meal you’d be fuming.
Going out to socialise the moment is rude, take one for the team and STAY HOME!

and I also apologise for making anyone more anxious, I’m not sleeping and I’m so worried I can’t eat, this new advice has actually eased my anxiety a bit and I hope people will take it ❤

Just popped to Tesco as my neighbour asked if I could get a loaf of bread.

The shelves are empty.

No frozen food
No biscuits
No Cereal
No Bread
No crackers
No Pizza
No ham
No bananas
No beans
No tins at all
No Pasta
No loo roll

Shelves are bare down every single aisle. I’m flabbergasted
I couldn’t even get any bread mix or flour to make my own.

I gave her my loaf and said I’d pop out tomorrow and get a couple of loaves for my freezer.

The government need to step up. This is beyond a joke now. Food either needs to be rationed or supermarkets need to ban overbuying.

If there is a positive to this it’s that we live in the world we do. Literally everything at our fingers tips on our phones. Entertainment/ chatting on forums/face time/shopping etc. It’s never been a better time for it ...., ok that bits a joke but seriously we are lucky to have the technology we do that we don’t need to leave our houses to get things we need.

Idris Elba has just shared on Twitter that he has tested positive for COVID-19 after being in contact with another confirmed case.
I wonder if he had been in contact with a confirmed case... Seems it's famous people or government that getting tested but the rest of us just have to stay at home!

Just seen someone on Facebook worried she'll have to cancel her kids 3rd birthday party and everyone's being silly 🤦🏻‍♀️. I get the initial anger but really some people need to see the bigger picture

This is going to have huge implications on those with mental health issues - anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, OCD, paranoia, social anxiety. We aren't prepared for the immensity of this situation.
If I have to stay in my house for super long I will definitely suffer. Especially as I literally live alone with my two kids and the main topic of conversation at the moment is paw patrol.
I don't have any friends but just getting out of the house helps a LOT with my depression/anxiety/PTSD symptoms.

A local tattoo artist has tonight shared on his personal Facebook he will be going about as normal. None of this, in his words “self isolation Pish” is he taking the piss?!!! I’d be avoiding any flipping tattoos from him! Arse!

The announcement that people should “avoid bars and restaurants” has really angered me.
As someone who works in a restaurant on a zero hour contract this is putting my job at risk, we haven’t been told to close so we will stay open and I’m expected to go into work, but if people are being told to avoid then guess what, we get no customers, I get no hours and therefore end up with no money or even worse I end up not having a job all together!
So what am I supposed to do? I have no holidays left to take as we have to take them all before the new tax year in April, I can’t go on the sick because I’m not actually sick.
So where does this leave me? How am I supposed to support my little girl?
I personally think instead of telling people to avoid, we should be told to close all together!
Then companies can actually put something in place to help their employees instead of being left in this horrible limbo 😡
