:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: I applied for a portering job last week, was informed this week that 68 other people applied for it as well.

Pretty sure you can't just walk into a job as Police, Doctor, Nurse, Paramedic or Teacher unless you've been one for years already.
I applied for an admin job and it had over 800 other applications 😭🤣 FML

Just apply to all the doctor and teacher positions that will take anyone apparently 😂
I've started PT open uni so I can have better opportunities in the future, but yeah I'll chuck my application in for the Dr jobs and hope for the best 😂😂

Wow that’s a bit of a shock for you, are they not even considering relocation?

I really do think this will be the norm, it’s a huge money saver. I know so many people who have given up their London office. We’re giving up ours and the relocation company came to asses our office and they said they are swamped with mainly disposal and recycling of people giving up their offices and not relocating. I’m on Fleet Street and it’s very quite, most things (cafes/shops/pubs etc) haven’t reopened either. There are maybe 2-3 people in my office building each day!
We have a huge head office in Yorkshire so we will be expected to visit 1-2 times a month but it’s a 9 hour round trip for me and the others in London.

I knew there was potential for this to happen but I thought maybe we would be consulted about it before they made their decision. They clearly made their decision months ago but we’ve only just found out. I’ve also just found out my line manger has also been made redundant with no replacement. It’s very surreal!

you are lucky you can work from home. Ive been told even if nuclear bomb went off id still be expected to come to the office
At lot of people don’t enjoy working from home, me included and I’m not working from home now, our office is just leaving London as our lease expires and we can’t afford to stay. I can do bits of my job from home (emails etc) but I can’t really do my job without being in the office. We didn’t really have a choice but to leave, quarterly rent in London £15k, quarterly rent in our new office (15 miles away) is £4K.

That is a huge difference in rent. In these times all the companies will be looking to tighten their belts and if they can move out of London, they will.

I think that people will be looking to get their equity out of their homes by moving away from London as well.

A pub near me is doing a work from home offer thing where people can basically set up their desk in the pub and get a special offer on tea/coffee and snacks.

I think this is a nice idea for those who struggle with being stuck inside the same four walls whilst wfh.

Ours is doing that too and it’s a steal at £10 for lunch and unlimited tea/coffee!

I’m on the very edge of the commuter belt before you go out too far and I know people are moving, their travel costs have gone down and they can buy bigger for less.
No brainier if you can do it.

I worry about the knock on effect of wfh. It’s hard enough to make friends as an adult anyway, many rely on work for socialising.
also the economic factors like the near by coffee shops etc who rely on office workers to keep them in business

Yes. If people live on their own, WFM can be very lonely. Even introverts require some people to bounce off every now and then.

I completely agree, also within these huge office buildings are big teams of people working behind the scenes. Most have large scale catering teams, facilities management teams, security, cleaning teams etc which are just another area of employment hit by redundancies along with all the infrastructure based around these buildings. Reality is it completely makes sense from a business point of view but I do feel for people who are struggling working from home and who actually want to be in their place of work.

Just had the email to say a member of staff at my youngest sons school has tested positive. All children to go in as normal. One other member self isolating as they've been in close proximity. I'm in the sw.
Quoting myself, email just sent from school stating a teacher has now tested positive and the small number of children they have come into contact with have been sent home. Luckily it's not in my youngest year. Only my elder sons secondary school left in the local area without a case now. I'm in Bristol @fireflies

I’m pretty much Bristol (south glos) and been watching our cases on the up now since the unis have gone back. My kids primary hasn’t been effected Yet but just a matter of time I reckon.
