I reckon we’ve gone through the second wave already
I don't know if medically it's classed a second wave but I'm sure the December/January illness was covid. Not sure if this is still part if that wave

I've never had the flu shot before but I am seriously thinking about getting it this year. Where I live, it is available to everyone for free.
I may not be able to get a covid vaccine but I can get the regular flu shot to potentially make sure I don't pass normal flu onto older people, vulnerable people, etc. I feel it is so important this upcoming winter season since there will be regular flu and possibly covid. It would be really awful for people to get sick with the regular flu AND then covid too.
Hopefully, people have more awareness how to prevent the spread of viruses ,meaning there are fewer cases of colds, flu and gastric illness.

People have to stop saying that other people are selfish, without knowing their circumstances. Nobody knows how others are feeling mentally and why they do what they are doing.
It’s not okay to berate everyone that doesn’t feel the same way as you do. People are allowed to not be scared and people are allowed to be cautious and scared. Yes there are a few that have taken SD and thrown it out of the window and have really ran for the hills, but not everyone that is breaking a few rules are doing it because they are selfish and don’t care, some people genuinely cannot cope anymore and I’m really sorry but we can’t do it forever. YOU don’t care about haircuts, some people do and their appearance matters to them, YOU don’t care about restaurants, some people like to eat out and that’s okay, YOU don’t care about the pub, some people like the social aspect and getting out, that’s ok. Stop berating each other and stop judging each other without knowing the circumstances.
It angers me that people think because THEY are shielding and scared that everyone else has to be terrified and think about them, just like they are saying that these ‘flouters’ are selfish and it’s not about them, it’s not all about you either and everybody else should not have to stay at home until next year because you want to. I’m so sorry if that’s harsh, but I try not to judge anyone until I know the circumstances.
This is the post I have wanted to write but not been able to articulate so thank you, you summed up how I feel perfectly.

my boyfriend is coming to stay at the weekend (and we are going to not social distance) but both families have agreed its now minimal risk to health but our mental health and general wellbeing is more at risk and i cannot WAIT. Although I've forgotten the pre visit body prep and me and the razor haven't been pals during lockdown :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

My eldest goes back to work soon, her furlough ends at the end of July and I won’t lie I’m worried sick. My husband has asthma and I have chronic health conditions that aren’t in the high risk groups but I struggle with colds or flu due to the fatigue associated with my conditions, so so we’ve been self isolating. My husband can’t risk catching it at all.

My husband is still working from home Indefinitely, we’ve had many new cases locally recently. We still aren’t leaving our home or socialising. Our eldest is starting to get frustrated but she understands we need to be careful. Her mood swings lately though are hard work. She’s adamant she’s going to the hair dressers next month and booked herself in despite me saying we’re shielding until August. I understand everyone’s getting fed up now after doing so well for 3 months with no complaints.

She‘s back to work in an office in a month. I’m worried sick, it’s taken me ages to calm my anxiety over the virus, but we’re still even cleaning our grocery deliveries so goodness knows how bad my anxiety will be when she’s risking bringing it into our house every evening, Im going to be a nervous wreck again. Lockdown calmed me as I knew we had minimal risk 😟

Oh my god if I hear one more person bleating on about a bleeping second wave I swear I’m going to stab myself in the eye with a fork. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - SO bleeping WHAT?! So we should stay locked down forever should we? Is that what you would prefer? Thousands of people going without cancer treatment, fertility treatment (not that I can understand how anyone would want to bring a child into this absolute tit show), mental health treatment? Hundreds if not thousands of suicides? Millions losing their jobs and livelihoods?. Childhoods ruined through lack of structured education? The prospect of the rest of our lives without being able to hug our families, travel abroad, go to the bleeping beach without feeling like a murderer? Can’t even get a filling or get a bleeping haircut? Whenever we ease lockdown there is a risk of the virus spreading - do people not understand how viruses bleeping work?! We cannot eradicate a virus from our shores while we still have free travel between countries. Even in countries that literally welded people into their flats they haven’t eradicated it completely.

I know people are dying and I know it’s easy for me to say as a healthy 30 something but honestly I really think that if I was in a risk group I’d still feel the same way - because this life at the moment isn’t worth living. If you told me I could go back to my old life but I’d have a 10% chance of dying of COVID or I could stay in lockdown forever I’d take the risk.
I do hear and understand what you’re saying but I just think there needs to be a bit of a middle ground. No one wants to be locked down forever but there is a pandemic. I think it’s great that things have reopened but that it’s only sensible we do things safely to prevent cases increasing. If they do rise and things get worse then another lockdown could be enforced or shops/restaurants closed again as is happening in parts of America. Everyone is frustrated but I just really feel we have to be sensible. A further rise in cases will only slow down all the things you mention and that’s where I get annoyed with people who I know or see being completely irresponsible. I completely understand why people are scared of a second wave. Now things are reopening I see no problem with that as long as people go about it sensibly, continuing to take precautions x

But surely even if we stayed locked down for another 6 months and then opened we would get a spike in cases? All it takes is a couple of people to bring it into the country and we would have a pandemic again? The lockdown was to protect the NHS not to completely clear the virus.

Yep that’s absolutely correct. I think what is worrying people who talk about second waves is that if the cases rise as highly as they did first time round we’ll be back to square one. I do understand what you’re saying, we absolutely can’t stay locked down forever and without a doubt there will be a slight rise when restrictions are eased but its how big that rise is. If people go back to acting exactly as they did before lockdown it could put us back where we were. If people go out and about but are sensible and wear masks, social distance and keep washing their hands, we can keep the rise down. It really does make a difference what people do. So it is scary for people to see other people appear to not be following social distancing guidelines. I wouldn’t say I’m scared right now but I feel concerned when I see that parts of America are now closing back down the things they have reopened, I really don’t want that here 😬

We can’t wear masks and social distance forever though... do you see where I’m going with this? Unless we’re going to have a pattern of lockdown-ease-lockdown for the rest of eternity the virus is going to rise. The NHS are prepared now, the first wave didn’t exactly cripple it. People are more mindful of hygiene and isolating if they are ill. At some point things will have to go back to normal - whether that’s now or in 5 years time, as long as the virus is still active the result will invariably be the same.

I feel exactly the same. In the beginning I was afraid and wanted to stay at home. Now 3 months later my mental health is suffering and I nearly had a breakdown yst. I could lose my job in the next two weeks, they are going trough redundancies and I have no confirmation anymore of what my future will look like. I can’t take anymore. I need to go out and live a Normal life. I want to go hairdressers, theatres, restaurants because I literally can’t take anymore

No we can’t do it forever but we are literally only just coming out of this. We can either go back exactly as we were Immediately and cases will rise sharply and we will be forced back into lockdown or we can come out of lockdown in a slow and sensible manner and keep cases to a manageable level. I do understand your frustration, I’ve absolutely had enough of it too. I don’t have the answers but just think we have to do things sensibly at this point in time and take each step at a time. I don’t know what’s going to happen over the next 5 years, for me my concern right now is that in a few months time we’re shutting things back down and that’s why I feel worried when I see packed beaches or people I know posting parties on Facebook.

My hospital is resuming urgent elective surgeries this week and we have began the process of returning back to ‘normal.’ We no longer have an extended intensive care unit and are just back to our normal 8 beds. Redeployed staff are going back to their original wards/hospitals. We have only 2 covid positive patients in the hospital, have had none in intensive care for a while but sadly we’re seeing some very poorly people due to other medical issues who have ignored their symptoms due to fear. It makes me so, so angry. People should not have been scared to go to the facilities there to help you.

Why worry, I've been working in a massive Tesco for the last couple of months and sod all people in that whole superstore have caught it, either before or after the perspex screens were put round the tills to make the public happy, and despite there being no room at all to space out in the "backstage" areas, and us quite often being two in the cab on the delivery vans. She'll be absolutely fine in an office.

I'm convinced that almost all of the people still catching it now are either vulnerable and in care homes, or living very closely with people recently arrived from certain countries that haven't got it controlled yet, or regularly visiting certain places that were supposed to have been closed but the police and government have quietly turned an enormous blind eye to. Few people outside those environments are getting it. The fact that there's been no infection spikes from any of the beach/park malarkeys that have been going on for weeks, or the statue madness, or the literal scrums that were pictured when some of the Oxford Street and other shops first opened, speaks volumes.

Yes you're exactly right we need to work with the virus, not against it !
