The whole new illness in children thing seems really odd to me! We haven't heard about this from any other countries who are weeks ahead of us in the pandemic and it just seems strange that the closer its getting to next lockdown review now thats coming out.. it wouldn't surprise me if the news got released to scare people and make us stay at home more and to have an excuse not to open up the schools when non essential businesses open up again. Very strange. There has been no reports of this illness coming from China which i know isnt the most reliable source of data or information however i think at this point it would be apparent that children are getting poorly around the world. Almost 5 months in since the first case of covid 19 (or probably about 8-9 months since the real actual first case)
Just seems strange to me!
Considering it is more common in children from northeast Asia, especially Japan and Korea we may start to hear of some cases now? Also the highest cases are in Japan so no wonder the UK experts are saying it is vary rare in UK.

I really hope so. I've not long got my leukemia diagnosis and I need my mum like never before. I've got my husband who is amazing but still feel so alone
I hope so too. Next time you have an appointment, ask the medical staff about it and if it will be possible to see your Mum?

Sometimes we just need our mums, it doesn't matter what age we are or what's going on. I'm sending my love x

oh my gosh where did I say I viewed furlough as a holiday, don’t put words in my mouth please! 🤦🏻‍♀️

I have furloughed staff where they are shielding for 12 weeks as opposed to putting them on SSP. because this is the RIGHT thing to do as you rightly picked out, SSP is not enough to live off.

I have furloughed staff on BASIC salary. this because it’s a damn site more than SSP and it’s still a good wage to live on. The issue I have is that the staff working are resentful IF the staff furloughed are able to have overtime added to their furlough wage.

I am in a situation where I have a member of furloughed staff demanding his overtime is taken into consideration for his 80% pay. I am saying I’m in a moral situation where out example say 30 drivers only 5 are furloughed. The other 25 are working as much as they can. They are working to enable our customers needs are met and to keep them employed and ticking over.

Because we have a vast amount of staff I am trying to keep employed, the overtime is spread. Usually we’d have tonnes to give out but as everyone is quite aware, not much can happen right now. The way they are paid is difficult. They were TUPE’d to us, so they have a basic salary but their pay varies week to week as they are able to pick up overtime a lot which is why I raised the question.

As a business I am doing my damned best to keep people employed, the economy in our industry moving in the small part we pay, and a lesser strain on the government.

Don’t make me out to not give a crap about my staff when I’m doing all I can to keep them all paid, and keeping them in jobs.

thank you, I agree. the pay structure is so difficult (we didn’t implement it) so they get basic salaries but it’s topped up a lot by overtime

currently we are doing a 80% of that basic wage which I believe is right but we have one who is demanding more and more and it’s stressing me out, hence my comment on the gov stating that shielding employees are entitled SSP as general rule (you can furlough if you choose to)
I thought parts of furlough beyond employer's control.

My other half works commission based job low basic.
He's getting 80% basic 21k not much just over 1k net.
But they also paying 80% average commision which normally makes up half of his monthly salary.
Not sure they using last year figure or average of last 3 years as he's been there a while.
His company said this month they will then make up the 20% difference for April but even then it's few hundred lost as there's cap to furlough scheme but we so greatful it's not just 80% basic.
Only area managers and management are working. No stores currently open non essential retail.

It's not dramatic at all. I just want a big cuddle from my mum ❤
My mum lives in northern Ireland I am England I think that what makes lockdown easier for me as I don't see my mum very often anyway so only seeing her on what's app chat is normal for me. I do talk to her everyday though.

I've already asked the question and was told it was a no until my shielding is over

How awful for you. Have you been told when your treatment will start as they've just announced they're going to start cancer treatment again depending if you live in an area with a low rate of cases?

There are still some UK residents stuck abroad so presumably them?

Another day and our neighbours are sat out on the street socialising. We are still allowed groups of up to 15 people and 2 meters apart. My husband and I think 15 is way too many and it should be like 4. Anyway, they all sit out for hours, on Saturday they were sat from 10 am until about 8 pm. Husband and I are always perplexed as do they not have other stuff to do, like feed their kids or work? And what can they talk about for that long? They treat it like a block party. We managed to get loads of gardening done. We have never been friendly with them and are def side-eyeing them now.
Our neighbours have freinds who live opposite both shared houses.
They always over one another's houses.
They mostly every day have bbq.
One of people opposite is pregnant as they had a baby reveal party past week.
Husband turned into a nosy neighbour as having fag at front.
Other neighbours talk from garden gate or cars with window wound down.

I've already started treatment. I was initially going to receive IV chemotherapy but am now having tablet form so I don't have to go to the hospital as often

Have you not received letters and texts from the Government about it? My friend is shielding and she's constantly receiving info. She has had the NHS volunteers ring to ask if she needs her shopping doing?

Also, all supermarkets have the list of the 1.5 million shielding and were meant to phone them and ask if they need an online slot?
Nope. Apart from my initial letter saying I had to shield I've heard nothing. Nor has my neighbour (we talk over the fence when he's well enough)

The question was could she hug her grandchildren. I presumed she meant young children who he then said were probably carriers.

I'm sure you will be able to hug your parents?
I think it’s anyone hugging vulnerable adults as anyone could be a carrier as some are postive with no symptoms

Feeling very down lately. The virus/lockdown is taking its toll on my mental health. I keep randomly bursting into tears today, and it isn’t taking much for my temper to flare it seems. I’ve had a rough few nights at work, and witnessing firsthand people succumbing to the virus is just awful. I feel like banging my neighbours’ heads together - they have people in and out constantly and were outside having garden parties all weekend like it was the summer holidays.

My sons don’t understand why I won’t let them out to play with their young daughter and her cousins when they’re in the garden. I feel horrible for them. I’m not feeling well today and my mind is in overdrive thinking I’ve caught the virus. Husband and I are butting heads every day, I also miss my family and want to see them so badly. My head hurts and I still feel like I’m wearing my “riot gear” as I call it, even on my days off.

I know, everyone is feeling much the same, I just had to let it out somewhere that won’t cause an argument.

I know I'm late but its been a rough morning. I physically couldn't leave my bed today until 5pm, I had absolutely no will for it. Luckily I found a book to read on iBooks about self motivation and getting on with it that gave me the big push to get up. Feel a lot better now that I've showered and put some make up on to make myself feel better!

Going back to Boris, I wish he would do something about his hair! Its so messy all the time, its nice when its cut short like in his Twitter picture! Why does no one ever comment on this?!

Sorry you've had such a rough day, a bit of slap always helps me. Re Boris' hair - the best comment I have ever read on this site was that Boris looks like he's brushed his hair with a toffee apple:giggle::giggle::giggle::giggle::giggle: I wish I could take credit for it, it's one of the funniest things I've heard in ages!
