I thought the extremely vulnerable who are being asked to shield were being delivered government food boxes?

Plenty of people in here have had good experiences calling/ emailing supermarkets and getting a slot for elderly relatives, try that.
I believe you only get a food box if you have nobody to get groceries for you.

have you called Tesco to ask? My mum did, and she gets a slot a week now. They put you as priority
My dad got a priority slot with Tesco last week when he registered as vulnerable but he has not been able to get another slot for 3 weeks and he only got that because I stayed up until midnight to get it for him.
I thought he would be allocated a priority slot each week but apparently not.

I've been seriously worried about this. My next one is due in early June and I don't think my GP is doing them. It's the only contraceptive I can take and it also helps me manage another health condition. I'm hoping by June they will be offering appointments again.

Pleased to hear you'll be able to have one though!
Can you call them and ask? I am not in the UK but my mum is who also gets it, she got hers last week.

Last time I spoke to them they said they were not running any routine appointments of that type but that was not long after lockdown was announced when things were all quite up in the air.
I've got an asthma review coming up though (which they apparently are still doing) so I plan on asking the nurse then. Seems the best way to get a straight answer, especially given how difficult it is to even get through to my GP surgery on the phone.

It's incredibly reassuring that your mum managed to have one though, thank you!

Don't like Chris Witty anymore. He just said that those extremely vulnerable people may have to wait a long time before they can hug their family. Honestly can't cope 😭😭

Just as they were about to answer the question about the new illness in children the BBC cut off the broadcast!

Caught the end where they were saying it does look like it is related to covid-19 but it is VERY rare but any parents worried should seek medical advice.

Another day and our neighbours are sat out on the street socialising. We are still allowed groups of up to 15 people and 2 meters apart. My husband and I think 15 is way too many and it should be like 4. Anyway, they all sit out for hours, on Saturday they were sat from 10 am until about 8 pm. Husband and I are always perplexed as do they not have other stuff to do, like feed their kids or work? And what can they talk about for that long? They treat it like a block party. We managed to get loads of gardening done. We have never been friendly with them and are def side-eyeing them now.

I didnt watch it, but that is heart breaking 😭
Public question was basically will one of the first things to change when restrictions are lifted be the ability to hug our family. Chris Witty said that obviously it would be very different for those shielding or in the vulnerable category. I know it's dramatic but I honestly feel like I'll never hug my parents again at this rate.

It was the question from the member of the public. When will she be able to hug her grandchildren. Witty said that it would depend on the age of the viewer and if she was in the vulnerable category. Later in the questions, they were asked again if children are carriers and they said it does seem so. Therefore, it will be hard for those shielding or vulnerable to hug grandchildren. However, he did say some grandparents are younger and in good health so presumably, they will be able to hug their grandchildren again..depending on the rules when we come out of lockdown.

The whole new illness in children thing seems really odd to me! We haven't heard about this from any other countries who are weeks ahead of us in the pandemic and it just seems strange that the closer its getting to next lockdown review now thats coming out.. it wouldn't surprise me if the news got released to scare people and make us stay at home more and to have an excuse not to open up the schools when non essential businesses open up again. Very strange. There has been no reports of this illness coming from China which i know isnt the most reliable source of data or information however i think at this point it would be apparent that children are getting poorly around the world. Almost 5 months in since the first case of covid 19 (or probably about 8-9 months since the real actual first case)
Just seems strange to me!

The question was could she hug her grandchildren. I presumed she meant young children who he then said were probably carriers.

I'm sure you will be able to hug your parents?

Does anyone else think the threat of the kiddy illnesses ( apart from a serious threat) another way of keeping us quiet and relatively happy to stay in lock down for longer. I mean we have said ourselves we are desentized to the current threat and ready to risk ourselves for a bit of normailty. It's not that I am not taking it seriously. I am I just think the timing is suspicious. Doesn't anyone else?

It's not dramatic at all. I just want a big cuddle from my mum ❤

I really hope so. I've not long got my leukemia diagnosis and I need my mum like never before. I've got my husband who is amazing but still feel so alone
