So... (bare with)

Want to get some perspective on this because I'm slightly confused and worrying.

My eldest was born with a hole in his heart, he's 3 now, and has never needed any treatment asides from 8 weeks of nicu when he was born.
He has scans every year to check it and its repairing itself as he gets older.
He wasn't on the vulnerable list at all for COVID, we've had to take no special precautions, although naturally I'm always more concerned with him getting ill.
Today, I had a phonecall from his consultant, stating he now needs to shield as extremely vulnerable due to this new, and I quote, 'mutated strain of COVID ffecting childrens respritory systems'.
He was VERY vague on the call and couldn't answer most of my questions because the information isnt available.
Surely, if this is now a concern, he should have been classed as high risk from the beginning?
Got myself into a right bloody panic about it now 🤦🏻‍♀️

is this to do with this strain that has a rash type symptom? (I’ve only glance read about it)

can you call him back and ask him to clarify? I would shield him as much as you can, as I’m sure you already have, and perhaps limit his time outside the house to in a pushchair covered in a rain cover (I know how hard keeping a toddler indoors can be)

perhaps it’s this new development that puts him at higher risk[/QUOTE]

Has there being anything announced about mental heath service provisions for NHS staff / frontline workers? I hope something is put in place for what they’re experiencing.
We have had an email with phone numbers we can call. Our managers are encouraging us to talk and have made a room where people can go to if things are getting too much.

I rang them at the very beginning when they announced the list and both his GP and his specialist said he wasn't classed as vulnerable. 😔
That was the reason hubby went away for a month to care for his friend, because we thought he wasn't at risk.
Stressing me out so much.

Yeah it is, but I've only seen articles in the DM so skipped straight past. That's what I've been doing @grumpycat, raincover over the pushchair when I've had him out etc. And asides from the park we've not been anywhere else.

Just worries me that he's been missed or information given has been incorrect 🤦🏻‍♀️

It sounds like he is advising you based on the new, possible negative effects it can have on children.
They haven't been able to confirm that the reported side effects are even 100% linked to covid, so I'm sure the new advice for your son to shield is just to be extra cautious.
I'm sure this is very stressful but try not to panic, just be as mindful as possible going forward.

I agree with everyone else. I think the fact that you called them direct at the start and asked them, they would have maybe aired on the side of caution to shield if they thought it was needed, but I would interpret that with this new info, they are perhaps asking how to just be safe as possible because there is hardly any evidence to prove either way

you’ve done a stellar job at keeping him safe so far, and I’m sure you’ll continue to. definitely 100% call his consultant to ask to be ‘kept in the loop’ of any developments if they’re able to ❤

I agree. In the same way pregnant women in 3rd tri are told to shield. They’ve said there’s no evidence to suggest they need to be they’re airing them on the side of caution.

I don’t think it’s training as normal though is it? Teams will be split into very small groups & maintain distancing. All social/ team building sides to training (group lunch break for example) will be cancelled. I suppose that all makes sense in a way.

I don’t think anything official has been announced for games and it’s speculated that they will be behind closed doors.
Lots of teams are following their own, slower plan.
