Glad that schools will stay open - everyone always argues LD2 wasn’t a real lockdown because schools were open, so I guess that means this wouldn’t be either 🤪

Not really though… schools, retail, gyms and personal care would all be open. It’s not exactly a lockdown.
All that is pointless though if you can’t meet people indoors.

Will they go back to limiting weddings and funerals 😳😳😳
Most likely.

Some people really want a lockdown don't they? 🙄
I know this is aimed at me 😂

it isn’t that I want a lock down per se. It’s just that I want clarity because it appears inevitable it’s coming yet it just isn’t confirmed hence my lockdown comments. Better to mentally prepare now so it’s not a shock. It’s my way of dealing with things…

I hope they don't decide this.

Forcing hospitality into serving outdoors only in January is not even an option for many really. They know fine well, lots will just opt to stay closed. I don't know about England, but in NI the rules around "outdoor dining" were complicated and businesses jumped through hoops to try and get set up only to be told they couldn't open, their outdoor areas were not suitable etc.

No mixing indoors? I find it hard to believe as many people would comply with that this time.
The arts and theatres closing is going to be really bad for the industry. ☹

What do you mean? Schools being open, shops being open, gyms and hair salons being open is pointless if you can’t meet people indoors?

IMO it’s pointless to say people can’t meet indoors whilst keeping everything open, as people will still meet indoors (as it can’t be policed) and they can still do almost everything else. It means it’s hardly a lockdown.

I know you are very pro lockdown (I remember your posts from last year begging them to lock us down) but you can’t really argue that step 2 is the same as a full lock down.

Yes people gleefully rubbing their hands at the thought of lockdown is in very poor taste given how many people have said how badly it affects their mental health/that of their children and that people struggle not seeing their families

I called the child maintenance service this morning about a payment and they have a big announcement about getting a booster and omicron before they even put you through to talk to someone. Just sounds like forced propaganda at this stage because those who want the booster and vaccine would be making plans to get one, they don't need telling from an automated message.

No not aimed at you. Just twitter people are practically wetting themselves over the prospect of a lockdown. It's like some people love the drama of it all

I think you have misinterpreted what I mean. By that I mean that most people are more likely to want to go without hairdressers, or eating out if it meant they could see their friends and family.

This pesky virus needing all this advertising spending on it, whilst the NHS is nearly under collapse so everyone should 'stay home'.

Yes, you remember rightly. I am in favour of stricter measures now if it means we can have more freedom later as opposed to semi restrictions over the course of a year!

Scandalous!

Omg this didn’t even occur to me, we’ve moved ours 4 times and it’s now set for summer 2022, if we have to move it again I might just call it off tbh 😂

You could still meet friends and family outdoors for a walk or sit outside and have drinks if you wanted to comply with the no socialising restrictions.

My point is, most people won’t comply with the socialising indoor restrictions anyway as it can’t be policed - so as far as lockdowns go, this isn’t the worst plan as you can see your family if you wish and most things are still open.

I think it is the unknown, it makes us erratic!

In the middle of Jan?! In the freezing cold, snow and rain? Unlikely.

Like I said, if you wanted to comply then those would be your options. Where I live we have lots of bars which have created outdoor spaces in tents with heaters etc for step 2 back in April so could still have some fun nights out and see family that way. I’m down south so maybe the weather isn’t such a concern for us.

But I expect most will just go round each other’s houses anyway like I said 🤷🏻‍♀️ I know I will, so for me it’s a bonus if they will be keeping everything open too 👍🏻

What will a lockdown actually achieve though? All it's doing is delaying the inevitable. We lockdown, rates go down but then we open up and they shoot back up. It's a vicious cycle. Covid is here now and we just need to get on with it. If we impose restrictions this winter then that'll be it now. It'll become a yearly thing and I'm not ok with that!
