To be fair they never found Corrie McKeague’s body when it was believed to have been in landfill and he was 200lbs. The chances of them finding an infant are very small.
Very true but didn’t they search that quite a while after he went missing? Just thinking if police act quickly they may have a better chance of finding the baby.

If that’s where the baby has unfortunately ended up, there’s no knowing when or where. It could have been weeks ago, miles away.

You don’t just brush off the effects of coercive control in a day.
Especially after so many years of a relationship, and having been through so much.

They dumped the pushchair on 7th Jan. Police seem to think baby was with them when seen in Newhaven on 8th but no evidence of baby since then.

Do we know any details about this Nigerian cult she was in? Was it through him that she got into it?

The thing I can’t understand is if they were both so mentally unwell how have they managed to avoid being found for so long? I think that would take a certain level of cunning and alertness.

That is true. I understand coercive control, think I spoke about it further back in this thread. But I also believe maternal instinct would override it especially as the circumstances point to a mother who ran to protect her child. Unless the child has been given to a caregiver or has died I can't see a reason she's not speaking.

Think about all the babies tortured to death by their mothers’ partners recently. Mother’s instincts don’t always kick in.

Sweet jesus I'd hope they wouldn't just throw there baby away and he/she be in landfill. The thought is horrifying.

I mean the whole thing is horrifying but that thought is far too much to process.

I struggle to see Constance as a victim at the moment: Coercive control, cult, PTSD, MH..bla bla. Some women are just bad and should not have children.

Tell the police where your little baby is you wretched woman.

I guess, because someone is severely unwell, doesn't necessarily mean they don't have the clarity of mind to carry out actions. It might be for example, that someone's view on reality has become warped, perhaps suffering from a lot of paranoia and delusions but they can still plan and carry out the things that those delusions drive.

ETA - not suggesting that this is the case here, no idea if MH is an issue or not with them, but I can see that those parallels can coexist for some.

I understand the argument that she may be suffering from PTSD and/or is being coercively controlled but she’s very probably already had kids removed from her care, and then gone on to have another which has most likely died due to her and her partner’s actions. She also knew MG was a violent sexual offender early on.

I hope this wee baby is found and put to rest with the care and dignity it wasn’t given in life. And if ss have removed other children from them, I hope they’ve been adopted into a loving family and not left languishing in the care system.

I hope and pray that little baby was left with someone and is safe, but I can’t help but feel like we will never know what happened to them.

does anyone know how they managed to move around the country? I know the police said they had walked very long distances but I presume in those early days they may have used trains or had help from someone?

I can’t get my head around how they were not spotted at all after 8th Jan until they were both arrested, considering they seemingly must’ve stayed in or around Brighton?

If people say they were last spotted with the baby on 8th Jan (or at least with the stroller) in Newhaven, then there’s little chance the baby could be somewhere else in the country? Unless the stroller was empty and they intentionally continued using it to make the police think the baby was still with them.

Things like postnatal depression or postnatal psychosis could also be part of it. If she never bonded with the baby she may not have that instinct.

PND/PNP is bloody terrifying. I was in a support group for PND and the most caring mums talked about some very dark thoughts they had about their children, or how they just didn't feel connected to them at all. (Fortunately mine was linked to not nice postnatal experiences and was very much about me, not my baby, in fact my bond with him was what got me through).

I would imagine Constance would be high risk for PND/PNP given her background and the circumstances of the birth. That doesn't excuse her behaviour but might explain some of the elements that seem to go against all maternal instinct etc

They had a lot of cash and took taxis. I imagine the police would be investigating any links the had in those areas - could be some people offered to let them stay etc.

There’s a possibility that she stayed with MG because she believed that’s what she had to do in order to keep the child and for them to be safe. Who knows if that’s the level of coercion, he could have her convinced that the only way they will be together is if she does everything he says because he’s the only one that can make sure they’re okay.
If they no longer have the baby she’s probably absolutely terrified of his reaction if she speaks against him, or more likely she still really does believe everything he’s (possibly) told her and so believes that everyone else is the enemy 😔

I think they probably both have MH issues and have fed off each others for a long time (including if he was coercive to her) and this is the end result/escalation. It’s so far out of the realms of normal logical thinking I can’t see it being anything else - running to avoid SS isn’t in itself but this is completely unlike the “normal” situation when a parent runs to say Turkey or another country to avoid SS.

I really think they would have left the country if they were able when she was pregnant. There must have been some reason - maybe he isn’t allowed with the conditions of his offence, I’m not sure how it works.
Or maybe that’s where they were going when the car caught fire.

I can't think Constance Martin has passed the baby onto anyone else. Caring for a new born baby is a huge undertaking for anyone and I just don't see how that can possibly be concealed from that person's family and friends? Also, if CM was using cashpoints then couldn't the police have tracked and located them before this? Finally I have zero sympathy for Constance Martin. Poor little fabulously rich girl who had such a glittering start in life compared to most and it still wasn't enough for her. I don't care that she was in a cult. I don't care whether she has PTSD. I don't care whether she's the victim of coercive control. So many people from truly damaging backgrounds successfully manage to not have relationships with convicted sex offenders and allow their baby to die from neglect. Some people are so broken that they cannot be fixed and should just be put down like you would do with a rabid dog.

Pretty sure I read he doesn’t have a passport. It’s a theory that when they abandoned the car they were intending to travel to Northern Ireland and then on to the Republic. There is a perception that children’s services do things differently there. That’s not totally unfounded - adoptions from state care are very, very low in Ireland compared to elsewhere.

It might limit the countries he could get to, but shouldn’t stop him leaving entirely (assuming there’s nothing more recent than what we know about). They jumped around air bnbs from sept and the reporting sounds like SS didn’t know she was pregnant at that point (when they did then there could have been restrictions if they were that concerned) so they had ample time to leave the country before the baby was born and while nobody would have suspected she was pregnant.

At the point where the baby was born or she was very heavily pregnant (in the car) leaving becomes so much more difficult - can’t fly heavily pregnant, would need a passport for the baby etc so it looks to me like they didn’t plan for that and instead have launched into the other option.

BIB - just because she’s from a wealthy background, it doesn’t mean she didn’t have issues. I’m not excusing her behaviour - I think her actions have been appalling, and that Mark is an evil person. But very rich people still have problems, and in fact being so wealthy, not having to work hard and having everything handed to you on a plate can create problems most normal people couldn’t envisage.

Constance may have actually despised her background and that could explain why she did so much to get away from it.

We also don’t know if there were other problems in her childhood, completely unrelated to her wealth. For example, mental health problems, depression, absent parents, sexual abuse and drug addiction are found at all levels of society.

Look at the case of Eva Rausing, married to the billionaire Hans Rausing. They were both addicted to drugs and she died of an overdose. They were living in squalor in a couple of rooms of their mansion in London when she died.

Personally I think drugs are probably involved in this case.
