Kier Starmer has come out and said that he supports these moves and they would not be repealed under a future Labour Government.

Something has to be done.

As it currently stands there will be serious escalations in the future, whereby fed up members of the public WILL take the law into their own hands to deal with this continual disruption. Just Stop Oil are just causing a war with the general public.

If the idiotic Deputy Commissioner of the Met Police doesn't want the public to step in and do the job of the Police, then they need to step up and deal with these idiots blocking the roads and spraying buildings. Moving them on immediately, no more of this 'softly Softly' crap that isn't working. Lawlessness of the protesters is being dealt with by lawlessness from the public.

I think it is high time that some of these businesses that have been sprayed with orange paint took Just Stop Oil to court to claim damages and compensation. It isn't right that they should have to stump up clean up costs. Just Stop Oil should be paying for those costs.

These idiots aren't peacefully protesting. They are causing the public uneccesary hassle and causing criminal damage to property.

I see the set of toss pots have ruined another day in the capital for people minding their own business, going about their day such as work with it being interrupted. We are skint and they cost the taxpayer millions to deal with their crap. In this country we do a bloody lot to help the planet and in the future will do a lot more. I think the prevailing point is the lack of investment in infrastructure and long term thinking re sustainability and protecting us from external factors such as Russian gas becoming unavailable or these national grid problems. We should have been better protected from the current situation.

25% windfall tax isn’t enough, wealth taxes aren’t enough, income taxes far too high for the little additional revenue they provide. Taxing wealth brings in the big bucks not fucking around with margins and single percentage points.

I’m actually in favour of raising the additional and top rate thresholds which many will be against but £1/50k back when that was introduced is very, very different to what it is now and it’s not untold riches. But we should tax intergenerational wealth more, especially these ridiculous deposits totally fucking the housing market up.

Tbh from a philosophical POV if the tories believe everyone can get somewhere just through hard work they should support it too? If it’s all meant to be on merit we should all start on 0 and see how far we get.

Not much difference to successive governments though.
On the one hand they want us to all be working to death but on the other they close small, local Schools meaning Parents have no choice but to drive and then they want us to somehow get to work as well. Then they decide to tax us to death for having the audacity to own a car, which they actually need us to buy to keep the economy going. Fucking mental.

I just dont understand why the police arent acting more forcefully - not to hurt them but to remove them and kettle them somewhere like they do on loads of other protests?

The police are in a no win situation. All of these protesters will have phones and any action will be filmed, posted online, and spun anyway to suit the protesters ends. Then liberal bloggers will pick it up and hey presto you have heavy handed police brutality against nice people who just want to save planet. And this will reach the mainstream media and there will be calls for reviews and resignations. See the Sarah Everard vigil situation.

The police can only act proportionally and can't take tasers to non-violent protesters. God there were times I wish I could have! But no crime no grounds of arrest. And even if they are breach of injunction you can't just wade in with teargas.

Ranvih Singh and Richard Madeley on GMB were brilliant with dealing with that rude and abnoxious idiot from IB this morning.

Tracey from IB claimed to be disabled and on benefits, yet seems able to travel to and walk onto the carriageway of the M25 on a regular basis. Her home doesn't appear to be insulated either.

My advice to her is if you can travel around the country and protest, get a job. You are clearly fit and able enough to be able to travel around protesting, but not when it comes to getting a job and paying your own way. The money being paid to you in benefits could be spent insulating homes instead. Stop being an utter hypocrite.

IB also seem to dig themselves ever deeper into a hole, everytime one of their representatives appear on TV.

The sense of entitlement is unreal. They would be better spending their time fundraising to insulate their home or shock horror.... working and paying for it themselves. Why should the government (and ultimately us) keep picking up the tab for these plebs.

It's always put me in mind of these in some ways TBH. There's a very odd psychological feel to their fervour which is based in "magical thinking". Their behavious has an odd internal logic not based in rationality. They didn't go round spraying stuff though except in their own blood:-

It's because they lack the courage of their convictions. Greenpeace confronted trawlers at sea and put their bodies in the way (Maritime law is a bit scary) as did the tunneling Eco protestors of the 80's/00/s (swampy et al) That takes some real courage/commitment. I can respect that (Security back then were well up for a scrap and had batons) This Ersatz lot lack the minerals and that's partly why I struggle with them.

Maybe they need to do a hunger strike now? It's unlikely though I feel.

If fuel is already unavailable to millions of families who can not afford to heat soup. What are the alternatives that could realistically be implemented overnight then? How will millions of tonnes of food be brought into our country if big oil is stopped? Will the scarcity of oil not push up prices even higher making even more unaffordable?

I've always thought they never put the real things up though even in museums, but just have copies with the originals in a vault in Switzerland.

I visited a stately home with a Rembrandt. Didn't believe that would really be left up with just a volunteer in the room.
