If anyone finds this helpful, an ortho near me (North East Eng) is charging roughly:

Between £1700 and £4600 for fixed metal
Between £2300 and £4600 for fixed ceramic
Between £3500 and £5200 for Invisalign

I imagine the lower prices are for single arch treatments.

I paid around £2000 for a fixed metal upper arch only brace in 2017 and this price included a fixed retainer and upper and lower removables. The best 2k I ever spent!

Ah let us know how it goes. What is it you’re nervous about?

I will do! Not sure tbh - I'm not usually nervous about the dentist. I guess cos I don't know exactly what's going to happen, and cos I remember getting my braces as a teenager being such a bad experience.

I think so many are in the same boat. I had a tooth removed when I was 13 just because it was a bit thin. Had braces for three years and a bridge put in. Wasn’t told anything about the long term! Fast forward 20 years and I need to pay out for an implant and braces to fix my teeth again. I’m on my last tray so will start the implant bit soon. Really not looking forward to it!
+1 for this! Also… the impact of wisdom teeth. I had 3 years of braces as a teen leaving me with gr8 teeth, then a mega wisdom tooth came through in my early 20s and despite promptly having it removed, sadly it caused minor crowding that I’ve just done an 11 week course of Invisalign to correct.

It’s super frustrating, idk what the alternative is as it’s not as if they can do anything to stop them coming through! bleeping teeeeeeth

You’ll be fine - I was the same. It’s the unknown. If it’s anything like my initial appointment, I just had a very quick check up, an x-ray and the 3D scanner which was fine but even so, worth every second to see the projected end result! Good luck!

Thank you, this made me feel better about it! I didn't get to see the projected result but I had x rays, 3D scanner and a check up. Have to go next week for a quick scale and polish and then I'll see what happens!

Exact issue I’ve had. I had near perfect teeth until I was 22 when I had all 5 of my wisdom teeth removed, within a year my teeth were ducked, they went crooked at the front and I eventually ended up with an alignment issue and couldn’t even chew properly lol.
I started Invisalign a week ago and I must say, I am impressed so far!

omg five?! Where was the fifth one if you don’t mind me asking? I’m so lucky I just had two on the top, one had come through without a problem but the second was impacted. I asked them to take the fine one out when I got the bad one removed anyway, tbh glad I did now as I wouldn’t feel as confident in Invisalign if I had a mega tooth with the potential to move others still lingering about!

And what you’ve said re: crowding getting worse with age is exactly why I’ve done this! My MIL told me it gets worse as you get older and it can even become painful, so I thought I’d sooner do this now than be a pensioner struggling with teeth pain tbh. Mega good luck with yours xx

So I had 3 impacted wisdom teeth which all needed to be removed but the one on the upper left hand side was growing normally, however when I had the X ray at the dentist they discovered there was an extra wisdom tooth above / behind it that was trying to come through as well that could potentially have caused problems in the future, so I ended up having all of them removed haha.
Yeah it’s so annoying honestly, I managed to go my whole life without even having so much as a cavity and then suddenly all hell broke loose as soon as my wisdom teeth came out 😂. I agree, prevention is the absolute key imo.
Good luck with yours too!x

Omg 3 impacted must have been hell bless you, that must have been under general surely? Omg what a nightmare, you definitely deserve the best results ever for your Invisalign after that nightmare!!

Through the night, I’ve taken out my bottom aligners and slept with them under my pillow 😂 my tongue is so sore from rubbing on the rough edges behind my bottom teeth 😖

Are you still early on in the process? That does stop at some point, I used to wake up and my tongue felt swollen from where I’d kept it lodged in the roof of my mouth next to the edge of the aligner, I’d forgotten about it completely until reading this so it is only a few weeks of pain I promise! x

I’m on my 18th week (put it in on Wednesday night) 😩 I keep taking it out. It’s so scratchy.

My treatment plan has changed a bit now as my dentist wasn't happy with the amount of filing I'd need between teeth. I'm now having a bottom tooth removed which means less filing is needed. It also means I only need 15 trays not 24 which is good and I should be able to have a fixed retainer behind the teeth on both top and bottom rather than just the bottom.

Weirdly I've also found out I don't have the correct amount of teeth at the top either. I had three years of dental work at the local Dental Hospital a few years ago and not once did anyone mention that.

Wow that’s quite a significant change in plan! Is this your first ever lot of orthodontics (eg no braces as a teen?). Try not to worry, I had 4 teeth out as a kid pre braces and think that was a pretty standard situation. I then had 2 wisdom teeth out as an adult. Tooth removals are vvvv easy, I went to Nando’s after my wisdom teeth came out! Good luck x
