@TwooTwooTwitTwitTwoo How are you getting on with your removed tooth now? :)

I explored every possible option to not have one taken out - a front tooth anyway - asking around at different practices, seeing if they could take out 4 back premolars instead, but nope! Due to the shape of my jaw and how thin my gum tissue is none of them were having it. Then I just kinda gave up, as that versus the time (1.5 years minimum) and price (£4.5k) was too much. I can't get it out of my mind though so I'm now thinking I will take the plunge!! How has it been having a missing tooth for you? Worth it I hope!?
I've nearly finished tray 11 out of 15 and the gap has completely closed at the top of the teeth but I currently have quite a big triangle gap at the bottom toward the gum line. You can't see the gap when I smile though and I'm smiling considerably more and in a more normal way than before. I've even happily smiled for photos which I haven't done for years!

My crossbite is mostly resolved, or at least the bottom tooth is behind the top one where it's meant to be. I'm incredibly glad I went for this option and was surprised by how quickly the gap closed and my bite has changed.

So far it's definitely been worth it!!

Me too, I love smiling now. It has given me so much more confidence, I used to be so hyper aware of my teeth (even though they didn’t even look particularly crooked, I just felt like they were because I could feel that my bite was way off) and hated opening my mouth, but now that it’s fixed I never feel embarrassed to smile anymore.

I'm thinking of getting Invisalign or metal braces but I have struggled my whole life with mouth ulcers, to the point where I have been to hospital for investigations about them and I'm worried the braces will make them worse! Does anyone find they cause more ulcers? Thanks ☺

I think Invisalign will be the best bet. I've had barely any pain and no ulcers at all!

I raved on here about how happy I was with my bonding… now it’s all chipping and coming off when I’m flossing. Ffs. I’m back at the dentist soon, so will have to tell them. You can’t not floss for fear of the bonding coming off!!

Where did they put the bonding? On the ends of your teeth or like in between them?

Saw the orthodontist the other day (end of my sets) and she suggested a few more to make some minor improvements - hoping it's not many more and no more attachments! I've now had my current one in for three weeks and got at least another week of it til my new ones come in, it feels gross!

I had my old one in for over a month before I got my refinements and it’s the worst! The retainer was sooo stained by the end 😭😭 hang in there!

Oh nooo! I hope I'm not waiting that long 😱
Don’t worry you won’t be it’s just coz I where I live everything kind of shuts down in August for summer holidays so it took ages to arrive 🤣, plus I went on holiday myself, but if you’re in the UK then I’m sure they won’t take longer than a week or so! It’s a horrible wait with the old retainer though either way 😭

Oh no that's such annoying timing for you 😂 yeah it feels so manky! Hopefully I'll get a call soon to say my new ones have arrived 😬

Fingers crossed for you! I've seen some people say their ortho ordered them a couple of spares of their final set to wear before refinements come in - maybe you'll be lucky!

I went in and he said, let's go ahead with all cosmetic things (whitening, bonding etc) and then we'll look at the teeth after that and see if I want the refinements or not! so happy that its almost over. Also paid for mine today and that made my heart hurt.

He told me to just keep my last tray in until my appointment for whitening which is next friday

Can anyone offer advice?
I’m looking into Invisalign seriously and today I’ve phoned around 4 platinum profiles on the website for my local area and each one gave me a different answer.

First one said it’s £40 for a tooth check up first to make sure there’s no bone issues

Second one told me it’s a free consultation by zoom and then I go in to meet them

Third one is £100 for a first consultation and then we go from there

And forth one told me that the particular orthodontist I was after, doesn’t do Invisalign despite being on the bloody website.

Tbh, I got the best feel out the £100 one as after doing research on him, he’s been doing orthodontics since 1995. The others just look like they are straight off an advert for Instagram.

help!

Definitely go for the £100 one. They’ll do a full assessment and give you all your options

£100 seems steep to me tbh, my consultation was free and my dentist spent about 45 minutes looking at my teeth, going through all of it with me, explaining things and answering my questions.

£100 is steep, one of my consultations was £75 but taken off the cost of the Invisalign if I went ahead - is that not potentially the case?

But IMO you should always pay for quality, I have seen a lot of doctors in my time and honestly just cause they’re licensed it doesn’t mean they know what they’re doing lol. Depends on how complex your case is though, if you’ve had braces before and just a bit of movement it’s not as crucial to get an experienced orthodontist.

I’d go with the £100 one based on your research, its not worth the risk imo.

As above, is the £100 deductible if you go ahead? And do they offer any alternatives should you not be suitable for Invisalign. In my consultation he said what I needed doing wouldn’t work with Invisalign but did offer an alternative (Quick Straight Teeth).

I had a free consultation then went in to meet them and it was fine. I then paid I think around £40 for a check up and to check suitability but it came off the final cost. I’d say go with your gut. However if the £100 is additional, it sounds expensive. The place I’ve gone through are in the top 1% in Europe and not the most expensive I had a quote from! It’s amazing what smaller places charge for these services.
