Please remember that what you see is so heavily edited for TV, and also that you don’t know what Clarkson and his team asked for. The pub staff probably did want to delay opening, do a soft launch etc but often when the gaffer sets their mind to something they won’t change it, and they won’t listen to you if you warn them why it’s a bad idea.

I’ve seen it so many times: CEO’s or big bosses setting ridiculous arbitrary deadlines for things and then yelling when everything goes wrong because it was rushed or under tested.

I know some of it must be set up slightly, but I love seeing the Farming parts of the show. The pigs are fascinating as is the business of farming and how difficult it is.

Harriet was great fun, but how on earth did she get a brand new range rover to drive away in, when she left, what on earth did that cost ?

I think Kaleb is being set up a lot on the show, as a comedy sidekick, ..... but he must be a pretty decent farmer though, if he has been promoted to being Jeremy's farm manager. When it comes to drilling a field, He knows what he is doing!

The issue they’re highlighting isn’t individual farmers poverty, it’s what incentive is there for farmers when they get no time off and it’s getting harder and harder to make money from the farm. The net result will be them selling their land to housing developers which will then affect our food supplies.

Jeremy is showing the side of farming people don’t get to see. Farmers most certainly do love their animals. You try not to name them or get close to them (but you do) because ultimately, you have to send them to the abattoir at some point. Even with dairy cattle, you know that when the cow is no longer breeding, it will no longer be producing milk and therefore, they have to go. Farmers are struggling enough as it is, they cannot afford to keep all of these animals alive when they are of no value. It’s heartbreaking and a reason I could never do it full time. Would quite happily be a part time farm hand but definitely couldn’t rear my own. I was a young farmer and hated the day they would go off on the lorry so purposely would not be there.

Just catching the last couple of episodes of the series.

That pair of chancers who were supposed to be setting up the pub for Jeremy, what a useless pair of twats. Neither of them did anything other than spend huge sums of money. Neither of them thought to sort out pricing, left to Charlie at the last minute. They needed slapping and chucking out, never mind them threatening to kick Jeremy in the nuts. And frankly them walking out on opening weekend was the height of unprofessionalism.

I thought the chef was a bit of a dickhead as well. Seemed to think his needs were the only ones that mattered.

Jeremy bit off too much trying to open so quickly, but those women didn't help anything.

Charlie is just a fucking hero!

It's Clarkson's thing though isn't it, all the jeopardy, disasters and 'what could possibly go wrong' ideas, then the turnaround. It was the same with the farm shop and yet people kept going. Not sure how it's doing now though.

I visited the farm shop the other week on the way back from a Cotswolds wedding and I was so impressed with how neat and tidy it looked. Nothing like the chaos shown on screen, but then again I visited was on a Monday just before closing time. There were maybe 5 others in the shop and it's a small place, so I can't imagine what it's like on a Saturday. Lots of other people milling about in the seating area enjoying the sun, taking photos with the big Clarksons Farm Amazon Prime sign. The cow juice machine was out of order

If anyone goes to the shop, get the crisps. They're unreal. The new flavour mushroom and wild garlic was delish. I have yet to try my bee juice! Next time I will be prepared and book The Farmers Dog!

Each to their own. Its good for a specific areas businesses but perhaps not the local population living there. It just would be nice if the message was not drive across the country to see this, rather go see what your local has to offer and buy direct from your local farm. I know not everyone lives near farms but there'll be something nearer than the farmers dog.
Its like driving to Starbucks when there's a nice local coffee shop round the corner.

I see what you're saying but they may well be doing both, travelling and going local.

I'm lucky enough to live near a few gorgeous "artisan" style shopping galleries and gorgeous local farm shops (The Owd Barn in Bispham is a favourite, for anyone local to Lancashire!), but will also travel to see Diddly Squat and go to the pub. I like to think that I'm a professional visitor of such establishments

Just started the last episode....you've got to question anyone who turns up and queues for so long to go into a massively packed pub, especially with babies in tow.

This is what me and husband also said, why not go a few days or even a few weeks later, it'll still be there and you'll have a much nicer experience. It looks like a lovely pub, we really like what he's doing for the local farmers, we hope it lasts a long time and someone capable takes it over even after Clarkson retires.

I used to really dislike him until he made this programme and my opinion did an about face. Really sad and I hope it's just been slightly over dramatised for TV and he's doing ok now.

As far as I know the footage is around a year old so the fact he is still around and active is a positive sign, I would think.

Thank you all, it was nearly 9 years ago but it is still the hardest thing I’ve had to do. Luckily the guy doing the job was amazing and he took the time to talk to me and settle my horse so he wasn’t anxious at all. He told me I shouldn’t watch it, he doesnt like the owners to see them like that.

So that’s why I don’t blame JC for not being there. They were both upset and it would only cause more stress to the pig. I haven’t watched it but from the clip I saw, she was settled in her little sty (if that’s what these ones are called, but you know what I mean) and it seemed a peaceful end?

I’ve watched it relatively recently, not finished s4 yet as it’s a bit dull. How contrived is it? Seeing Kaleb on tour seems very different to how he was portrayed in early series was that all a bit set up or exaggerated for the tv series or has Kaleb just seen the opportunity to make some money. Did he ‘audition’ for the role? He’s not coming across well this series. Harriet was nice but she’s from Derbyshire right so must have auditioned rather than applied for a regular job as there must be young female farmers in the Cotswolds already?

Of course some of it is contrived and scripted. It is primarily an entertainment show after all. Clarkson's daft inventions are an obvious one. Test driving tractors another. Hovercraft on the field.

I wish they'd make a plushie out of Richard Ham.

Would like to think that even Jeremy wouldn't want them to have a bad edit as he seems to value hard work but I bet that's the best they could get! Let's hope any new clients of theirs watch this and realise what they might be in for.
